There was a project last year with two ponds, one of which was pretty damn big. The one that had a road going though the pond, that looked a bit scary to drive on from the video. That had been worked on by another crew and they'd made a terrible mess. The problem with that is you still have to pay the first crew, and then you pay Chris and John to fix the issues before they start actually progressing the project, so it works out half as much again as it would if they'd bought Chris and John in from the outset.

I think Chris is not only smart and a hard worker. I enjoy watching him because when I was younger I spent time on a farm in North Ala and it was work all day then feed up, then wash your feet, set on the porch for a while and be in bed right after dark because the sun comes up early. Work all week and 1/2 day Saturday then Church on Sunday, but I am so thankful because it taught me a lot about life.

Anybody who's watched Chris for a while probably knows he values his privacy and never discusses a lot of things. And they also ought to know they don't NEED to know everything to still enjoy his videos. I don't care what he has for breakfast. I'm there to watch some hot machine action. That sounds SO wrong but I'm going with it. Anyway, thanks for getting him to talk a bit. Very interesting and insightful.

Great to hear the answers from Chris. Watching from here in the UK. I can fully see his point about chipping, mulching and firewood. The rules here are changing constantly about the use of wood burners/fires, it’s not worth the hassle. People will nearly always go for the cheapest quote but in the end you get what you pay for!! Very nice interview gentleman! Enjoyed hearing more of Chris's story. For the business owners we all know the price behind the end product will sometimes flatten you profit. Most jobs are quoted high for the cost of behind the scenes problems. If the job is completed with no issues the bottom line is reflected back to the consumer. Chris you do great work and Jeff thank you for delivering a great interview. ☺️

Great interview! 100% about land management. I'm out in California I had a few people in my family lose homes in the fires last year.Mismanaged federal land .it's actually not necessarily a state issue. My niece lost a mountain home in sequoia national park. There was a report done years ago 2007 that pointed out how unsafe and mismanaged the forest was and is. With the lack of water it is nowhere as dense as your property if it was we would have way more severe fires.

Enjoyed the video. I live in Arkansas and trees are every where. I never understand people in the city that complain about how we cut or clear land. They can't see the amount of deforestation that was done to build the city. My land has been cut several times and yet is full of timber. Most country people care for the land we want to pass it on to our children. Thank you and Chris for the videos.

I drove across Arkansas on a trip from NM to AL in 2019 - didn't think anyone lived there, as it's ALL trees from the interstate.😜 I spent 6 years here in the UK running a timber harvesting business & some people couldn't grasp how I love trees but am perfectly OK with cutting them down when the need is there or that's what they were grown for.

Very cool interview. I would love to "pick his brain" sometime more out of curiosity than anything else. One thing that I have seen on social media and don't quite understand is how people can "look down" on hard working people with blue collar jobs that aren't "educated" (indoctrinated). It's not just operators like Chris, but truck drivers, farmers, tradesmen, etc. A person willing to put in some time and effort can make a pretty good living doing this stuff, and to me... I could clear woods and dig ponds all day every day and be happy. If I could go back 45+ years or so I would have wanted to pursue a similar career path. Take a guy like Chris. He started doing this at the age of 18. Today he owns, operates, schedules and maintains multi-thousand dollar equipment at a very young age and I assume that he makes a pretty good wage while doing so. Yes he works a lot of hours, but it appears that he enjoys what he does and takes pride in it. Besides, who wouldn't want to go to their job and work wearing shorts and a t-shirt out in the woods every day?

This is one video that needed to be done. I have subscribed to letsdig18 for years, always felt like this info needed to be shared. From someone that has owned a little equipment, managed and maintained a lot of equipment, this hits all the dots. And, there are owners and operators, but Chris is an “Artist” as much as anyone, more than most. I also spent 30 years in the sawmill business, both of you are absolutely correct, there is lumber and then lumber, not all the same, kiln dried and graded vs a little air dried and rough. Good video 😀

Chris I have watched your video's and love what you do. Your a remarkable person who fixes other people's mistakes, you know what your doing and have a good knowledge on constructing dams etc, laying down pipes and digging trenches, You take care of your machinery and service them when they require it, It's a shame people don't want to get free fire wood, and cost money to send it to mills. Better to burn it and put the ashes back into the soil and I totally agree with you 100% per cent about maintaining your equipment, insurance and liability. I will continue watching all your video's so keep them coming.

Great interview. I've seen multiple articles from extensions such as the NC State Extension and University of Minnesota Extension that talk about how a healthy lawn and pasture is far better for the environment than a bunch of trees. If left on it's own, the unmanaged trees turn into nothing but vines and underbrush which become a fire hazard. I believe in the approach of environmentalism through management rather than abandonment. Great work!!

Good to see Chris on the other end of the camera and hear his insights like that. Great points made there toward the end about good forestry management too. It's been said (not sure how true or false it is) that some of that "just let it grow and don't touch it" type of management has been the reason some of the wildfires in the past couple years out west got so bad - lots of small dry stuff underneath that kept feeding the fires.

Watching from New Zealand guys, i'm old enough to be both you're Dad. Love this sort of activity, follow it pretty much as much as i can. Actually its very relaxing watching a machine being worked on the land. Thanx Tom and Chris, from Bob, NZ.

Really glad you got Chris to do the interview, like all the other LD18 followers it's nice to see a different perspective of the man behind the machines. Your property has made a fantastic transformation and I'd bet if you had anyone else do it you wouldn't like it near as much. Great video and great channel. As I said before too it's great to see an old house with such potential and history being given a second chance.

Oh now that was a fun video. Fun seeing Chris's face instead of the back of his head....rofl. Good questions, equally good answers and I'm sure many learned from it. Good interview. Congrats you two.

This was a really cool interview, like Chris said he likes to be behind the camera so to hear this side of him was neat.

Wow, I nearly missed this, and the content is golden. Some really interesting information. There are lots more questions but a lot of it is no one's business but Chris', and it doesn't make any difference to how much we enjoy Chris' channel. Count me as a new subscriber to this channel.
