Great Job !! this video will help make my conversion from drum to disc on my 64 Falconchero. Here's one little correction I felt I needed to share with you. When using the expression, @14;51 you described the hose connection fitting like a "hotdog in a hallway".That particular expression is used when something fits really sloppy for example a size 3 penis and a size 14 vajayjay, not when something fits perfectly like a glove or like it was made for it. Other than that meaningless error, this is an excellent informative drum to disc conversion video that I'll definitely share with any of my friends.

I use schedule 40 pvc pipe in different diameters and a lathe to make seal drivers out of them making insertion easier such as the bearing cap. A lathe isn't always needed.

Lots of great tips here. Something I've found in my fist 600 miles of driving is that the stock-style 4-piston setup seems kinda finicky when it comes to getting good stopping power out of it. There are myriad adjustments that can come into play, none of which have anything directly to do with the disc setup itself, but that nonetheless affect the feel and responsiveness of the braking system. Adjustable pushrods are frequently supplied with kits (though I had better luck just using the stock push rod) - so there's an adjustment there. Then you have the adjustable proportioning valve. And the rear shoes have to be adjusted so they're slightly dragging or your pedal will be too low. Each adjustment incrementally increases the responsiveness and feel -- it takes some fiddling, and a whole lot of patience, to get it right.

I have just done a complete rebuild of the brake lines. In Europe we use copper lines, not steel lines, its much easier to work with, and never corrode. It will last a life time. I have never heard about anyone having issues with copper lines, so a great maintenance free upgrade.

Yeah buddy, it's coming together! Low budgets are the cure for cascading builds. I think that puts builds like our in the " ratty muscle car" section.

Wow. I've been trying to figure out a horrible screeching sound from the front end of my 66 for a month. Belts, alternator, power steering pump all replaced...This weekend I checked the bearings and whilst there I found that the rotor shield was touching the caliper. Found your video and you mention the very thing!. I'm hoping to be able to trim it a bit in the next few days. I really hope its the problem as its driving me nuts as its intermittent. Jeff, here is a good question and would make a great short video. What is the BEST way to adjust the proportioning valve? How sensitive is it ? quarter turns, full turns ? There has to be a better way than drive the car and see if the rear brakes lock up....tips ?

Hmm... Couldn't find "tapping wrench" in the Snap-on catalog. Can I just use a Crescent wrench? Good idea using the pvc cap. Always felt weird using the socket.

Five years ago, I purchased a brake conversion kit from Mac’s auto that sat in a box until this week. It stated fitment for a 1964 Ranchero. Its description was: 41-83979-1 Front Disc Brake Conversion Kit, 5 Lug, Falcon, Ranchero, 1960-1965. So I assumed it was a perfect fit. Little that I know is this was to convert from a 4 lug on a V6 to a 5 lug as in a V8. The rotor bearings ID was way too narrow for the spindle. I contacted Mac’s technician and he suggested I get a bearing that would fit both parts. Problem is that the ID needed for the original spindle is too large and the OD for the rotor is too small. I thought about trying to just get a disc and place over the original hub, so I am in the process of hunting such a thing. Anyone else had such a problem? Suggestions?

I just put all new drum brake parts on my 66 restore (include 4 new drums) and I just don't like how it feels. Way too much pedal travel , yes, they are adjusted, bleed, two bowl new master...Maybe I just forgot how drums feel but they scare me ...my email is arcorob and that's at Hotmail.
