Great video and a very smart idea to use the term "list" instead of just "index." When I've used that term to educate folks on index funds they've tended to look at me sideways. LOL. I'll now try going the "list" route.

flip to the back of an old textbook and you'll find the index :) Nothing scary!!

Wow, psychic timing! I was just telling a family member that I didn't know the difference between index funds and ETFs. They're both groups of stocks. I didn't know the difference in how they are purchased. Thank you!

This is a great description of these different types of investment funds! I grew up with an investment advisor parent so these terms were always natural to me, but I've been trying to figure out a great clear way to break them down for people, you did an awesome job!

It’s important to mention the ability to purchase fractional shares and banks and investment companies i.e. Fidelity that don’t require these astronomical minimums when looking to purchase mutual/index funds.

With ETFs though, don’t you have to pay taxes from dividends every year even if you don’t sell

Thanks! Glad it was helpful :) The first time I posted it, I was just starting to learn about this stuff and the video was a bit messy - haha! Also the fees have drastically dropped since I posted that - actively managed mutual funds are no longer charging an average of 1%. I saw a lot of video sharing that information and it's no longer accurate!

Yanely, I’m planning to buy VOO in Fidelity because they allow fractional shares, right? Fidelity said “High mutual fund fees: investing in non-Fidelity funds could trigger a steep trading fee” ... I’m worrying. What fee are they referring to?

It feels like the simplest option to buy it there because you already have the account there, but the lowest cost way to buy Vanguard funds is through Vanguard because other brokerages usually add fees or restrictions for outside funds. Closest option inside of Fidelity to VOO is FXAIX or ONEQ.
