This was one of my best training days. 200 rounds in 1 hour. I was able to confirm a lot of things but also identified more tweaking I have to make to my draw and tension.
With that said, I shot a match the following day and noticed that all of my stationary shooting was executed as well as I have ever shot. It included long distance, wide transitions, and a mixture of steel and paper targets. Where I lost time/points was in the execution of shooting on the move, stage planning, stage execution, and 3 bobbled draws. Perhaps I should put 100% focus on those things for a couple months and see how things pan out.

So true! I trained with a high level M class shooter the other day and realized that he was always 15% ahead of me on our first mini stage runs. The gap in execution is so wide. Makes me want to train even more and differently

@@vmanshooting One thing I learned from that first shoot of mine was from an A class USPSA shooter (he got to A class in almost exactly one year, at the start of which he had never shot a gun before) who shot with several grandmasters. When I did a stage and had some piss poop accuracy like 60% Alphas and 40% Charlies with comstock/comtac (forgot what its called, best 2 on paper lol), I was like "yeah I need to slow down for accuracy" he immediately shut me down. He said "no, don't slow down your shooting, speed up your processing." He said every single GM gave him this advice to not slow down, as it would self impose a ceiling or limitation. There may be a time to slow down and work on fundamentals, but to get faster, stay fast or go faster, and speed up your processing. Maybe you already knew this, lol. But if not, maybe it'll help in the long run. Your production quality is getting better too. You could do content creation for sure, if you have time ofc.

This is helpful for me as I’ve been focused on learning how to set up good practice sessions. Question: were you treating the 25 yd paper as a partial with the blue tape?

I’m glad you found it helpful! I’m also trying to find a better way to practice. Currently I’m pretty deficient in mini stage setups. But to answer your question, yes i use the blue tape to signify that I cannot shoot anything below the blue.

When I train dry or live I get really obsessed with fine tuning techniques and every aspect of executing the technique. I get too in the weeds about worrying whether I’m gripping correctly and my sessions end up being solely focused on that. It’s frustrating and I want to stop this, but I also have this weird mentality that I need to master each individual technique in a stepwise fashion before progressing onto more transition work, movement practice, etc. I would advise against this mentality because it has overall been detrimental to me I also struggle to be content with what facilities are available to train at. I don’t have anything like this bay you’re in. I’d say people should work with what they got and they can become really good, but I do find it difficult to put everything together live that I’ve practiced dry because I literally don’t have anywhere to move while shooting. Have you always trained here? How have you approached training at indoor lanes if at all?

100% on moving on from a trying to perfect a technique or skill. Personally, I work on things until I see plateaus and then I work on something else. A good example of this is actually recoil management. I kind of gave up on trying to keep the gun flat or have tight doubles at 7 yards because I tried every grip technique and it wasn't improving. It wasn't until I started to focus on looking at a small spot on my transitions that my recoil management started to see progress again. wrt training facilities - I started to have this luxury about 14 months ago when I moved here. Prior to that, I was limited to competitions and indoor shooting ranges for live fire. There is definitely a huge advantage of having a bay like this where you can customize your training in infinite ways. Also, having a good live fire session allows you to know what to work on during dry fire. The best thing I think I did when I was in your position of not having a bay to live fire in was to simulate stages during dry fire. That is, walk through the "stage" without a gun, then run the stage dry and focus on your dot moving there. Hopefully your indoor ranges allow for rapid fire. But I would save your indoor sessions for recoil management / sight confirmation training with doubles, bill drills, and accelerator (scaled down). The indoor faciliaties where I used to live was 1 shot per 3 seconds. So I was only able to work on recoil control during a match...Life is great now!
