I don't wear my nails anywhere near that long but as they grow out you kind of just get use to it.

Using your hands differently helps tremendously. Instead of going fingertip first into things (and getting dirt gunked under your nails) you’d go at things with the sides of your fingers, your knuckles, or use tools like tweezers and scissors etc.
