📢Some people have alerted me to there being a high pitched noise in the audio of my videos recently, I tried to fix it in this one to the best of my abilities but please let me know if you hear it still! It won't be a problem going forward as it was a mic issue 😭 Also! Links to other knitting/fiber arts folks who have made similar videos are in the description & down below- let me know in the comments if you know of others! @knitsbymandy - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qJeRlZqkvM67las.htmlsi=a1XCovqOrW4nl6Hk @midsummerknits (she has a couple but this is the latest!) - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbqnZ7R017nSfX0.htmlsi=Skexa8jUDentHyWq

my favorite knitting podcast channels like yours are the ones that don’t do clickbaity “knitting a sweater in 24h” or some crazy short timeframe. it really turns me off. i like learning about planning knits, pattern compilations, and FO/yarn/pattern reviews. and finding personalities that i would probably vibe with irl. when i was making content regularly 1 million views roughly equated $1k of adsense (which is based on your ad genre, tech gear genre n other types can garner much higher ad pay but i digress) or 1k views was $1 which is like NOTHING… barely any return on the time investment it took to film and edit tons of videos to achieve that. adsense is pennies but increased sponsorships would create better livable wage. but that takes a lot of cringey shilling and regular content which can turn into a chore bc it becomes a job. figuring out what to post on a set schedule eventually burnt me out creatively. i hope that you never get burnt out from this channel and that you continue to enjoy making your content bc i really enjoy watching you and listening to your thought process!! ❤

I really enjoy your podcast. Your makes, your personality, your content. I am glad that it has provided nice community vibes for you and that you make a little bit of money back for your time to put back into the craft. I would give colorwork a go. It isnt that hard. Keeping even tension is the key. Floats can be a bit too long and not cause that much of a problem. You just dont want them to be too tight as there really isnt any fixing the puckering that results.

ooh my tension is incredibly bad.. maybe colorwork will help me fix it!

Thank you for all you do and share. I follow you for the knitting but also because you have a great sense of humor and it’s like listening to a friend. I usually quit following someone when I feel like the video has become an advertisement and I’m being sold yarn, project bags-whatever. Good luck with your color work. It’s really not hard. It’s like anything else in knitting-you need to get the muscle memory going. Then you’ll make mistakes off and on just like the rest of us. I think knitters sometimes make things sound more complicated than they actually are. Have fun!

I follow and watch KZfaqrs, like you, for their personality. I like interesting, quirky/funny, and knitters who knit the things I like to knit. Knitting videos for me are like listening to friends who knit, talk about their knitting and yarn.

Thank you for sharing! I've had a knit youtube now for 2.5 years, and I am not monetized. I'd like to get there eventually, just to say that I pulled it off, but I really make my channel for the fun I get out of it :) For me, I challenge myself to upload one video per month, and that keeps me busy enough, respect to you for being able to produce a video every week, its a hustle!

With knitting, you can almost always get the materials back - ie unravel it - to use for something else if you mess up or even just don't like the item. Sewing is too much jeopardy for me. Too high a chance of ending up thinking I wasted my money.

KZfaq is very fickle. I have been making videos for years pretty consistently and I’m still under 1000 subs and my average view counts are under 100. Just odd. But I keep going because I enjoy sharing what I make. Thank you for sharing all the information you did. It’s always fascinating to know the back end of more popular KZfaq channels.

I enjoy your sense of humor and that you’re honest about your skill level. I also enjoyed the episodes where you interviewed other podcasters. I can imagine the pressure to increase your income here would negatively affect your content. I’m excited for your future fiber episodes! 😊

Gratz for 1 year of knitting podcasts! Really like the vibe of your videos, feels like I am listening to a friend 😊 One tip for colorwork: I would recommend to start with a small item like a headband or mittens. First time I discovered colorwork, I made sock and I never finished them because my float tension was way to tight. But I am happy that I discovered that on a small project, not a large one 😅

I just finally sat down to watch this and I am working on my first big colorwork project right now (Andrea Mowry's Mackworth) and it's so much fun and it's so stunning to see the colors coming together (I'm working in a lavender MC with reds/pinks/oranges/dark reds as the CCs and I love it) which is so funny because I too never either wanted to make one or felt confident enough to but I am and you totally can do it too! (Edited to add: I did a colorwork hat first to kind of make sure I had the technique down and I really recommend doing that)

Found this really interesting esp the financial side as most podcasters coyly avoid mentioning hard numbers. Colourwork really not that hard Jenny, just be careful with your tension and consistent with your dominant yarn. I usually make the CC the top thread but there’s no real right or wrong just do what works for you. I really enjoy your humour and authentic manner, love sharing time with you, cheers

I have a bunch of color work yoke sweater patterns saved in my Ravelry Favorites that I think meet your "ski sweater" criteria. My third year knitting goal was to learn color work and I think I could make any of these now. Probably the most difficult color work I have done so far is Soldotna and the yoke of Birkin. Here's some of my Wish List sweaters: Sonder, Riddari, Treysta, Romo Sweater, Floe jumper, Rainier, Steinkriger, Flora, Esther sweater, Hassja sweater, Lopi, aftur, and Stopover (which is a minimal color work sweater in large gauge, easy, but bottom up). A couple of serious Ski sweater styles are Setesdal and Marius-genser rund sal. I enjoy your podcasts because you are very entertaining! 😊

Love all of your videos including this one! I’ve enjoyed the videos people have made about the monetary side of KZfaq. I decided to start a knitting/sewing channel in the fall because I wanted to try weaving but couldn’t really justify buying tools for yet another hobby 😂 so my initial goal was to see if I could get enough to offset the cost of a small loom. Now, however, I’m really enjoying the community aspect and it’s fun to have a small space to talk about my projects. Looking forward to seeing what 2024 will bring for you!
