I got on call with the lovely ‪@handmadebyflorence‬ to talk about podcasting, curation of a visual identity vs. reality, and sleeves.

I too am very much enjoying this series. I usually wait to knit a pattern until there’s more than a few projects pages with notes on Ravelry. I don’t put up a project page for each item I make nor is anywhere near the extent of my stash yarn listed. When I do a project page I usually have it already done in my Notes app on my phone and copy and paste it into the project page. I’m “knitfluenced” a lot by KZfaq (a modern knitting miracle in my opinion) with yarn and patterns I might not ever have learned of otherwise. So I really really appreciate the content of what knitters share which is truly a gift to the community.

I love the conversation around curated versus unfiltered knitting content. Not having a perfect aesthetic background or great photography/editing skills has been a barrier in me sharing this thing that I love so much. But seeing content creators that are more unfiltered helped me to gain the confidence to share and realize that maybe seeing my projects in an imperfect setting can help someone else. I don’t have to wait to have the perfect house or perfect projects. Live in the moment, share the things I love, and someone out there will appreciate it.

I love this series so much! Some other podcasters I really love and would love to see in this series are Emily from High Fiber Knits, Amy from NE Knits, and Rachel from the Wool See knitting podcast :)

I loved the conversation about color seasons bc as soon as I started following Florence I immediately pegged her as a summer! and her knits really reflect that. I think her natural hair color might be a more mousey brown, and it would definitely show a little more if she were to go back to it or even do an ashier blonde; but the funny thing is I think most people are attracted to their color seasons. you, for example, definitely also read as a winter! definitely more muted but cool colors are beautiful and make your skin glow-- like your top today! this was a great podcast and im so happy I found it :)

I just have to say I love this little series! Love how you get to see a more relaxed and raw side of some of the most favorite podcasters we all love to watch. It makes you relate to them even more. So I applaud you for getting this idea a go !

this was so fun! i love hearing the perspective of other knitting podcasters bc it's really interesting to me how we all "do" the same thing (knit & post about our knitting), but have such different takes on how we approach knitting and sharing things online. thanks for making this video!!

Great video. The first thing that struck me when I started watching knitting podcasts was how casual and “amateurish” (that’s a compliment) they were. It helps make the content more accessible. On another point, I definitely don’t have second sock syndrome or suffer from “sleeve island”, nor do I ever have more than 3 WIPs (usually 2). Just like Florence, when I start making something I’m desperately keen to finish it because I want to wear the garment. I also need to knit when watching TV so that I don’t start doomscrolling.

I find that when knitting socks, if I don’t cast the second one on immediately after finishing the first, I simply will not have a second sock. I don’t even finish weaving in ends on sock #1 before I move on to sock #2! Great interview with Florence! I’d love for you to interview James N Watts if you can coordinate times. He’s currently living in Croatia so idk how easy it would be to make that happen

I am also one of those hobby jumpers (also ADHD haha), but knitting has been the hobby that has stuck around the longest so far. My theory is that the time it takes for me to knit a garment is about the same duration as my attention span for a specific hobby. Also making something useful is a really good motivator to actually finish it.

In regards to the second sock syndrome, I have first sock syndrome - the first sock is so hard to get through bc I’m learning the pattern and then the second sock I just want it to be done so it gets through way faster

I think people who design for big companies have probably formally studied design. I know when I was studying my undergraduate for architecture we were housed in a building with the fashion students. For most of them, the aim was to get into a company that they could design for or set up their own business, depending on what direction they wanted to go. This is the 2010s though, in the UK, so it probably has changed a lot due to social media!

I love this series soooo much ♥ Still have to watch the whole video, but already loving it^^ Had to stop to at the point where you talk about potentially inviting someone who is/was working for a fashion knitwear designer/brand. My idea would be: Theknitedit :) She was in Hong Kong designing knit fashion and might be able to tell you more about this. I love her knit designs and content on instagram and yt.

Loving the series! ❤ Florence is probably a Light Summer and her colour choices do fall into this palette. I think that's why they suit her so well. And you might be some sort of winter (or Bright Spring in a long shot, in case you feel warm colours are more flattering for you than cool ones. But I would bet on winter, perhaps true winter).
@MorganSea1039

I think knowing Florence’s natural haircolor would be most important to finding if she is a summer or winter. I personally think she would look stunning in dark espresso brown hair color or a cooler blonde tone that honors her natural undertone. A lot of the muted tones in her palette are soft summer-esque so it could be possible.
11 ай бұрын
@@MorganSea1039 yeah, hair colour is relevant. But a winter would hardly look good in the colours she does. They're too soft.

I have a suggestion about someone to interview or contact! I know TheKnitEdit worked in the fashion industry for a while and has experience professionally! Maybe try looking into that further and reaching out to them to see if they would do an interview since you mentioned the interest of someone who has more professional or commercial experience. They also have their own channel on KZfaq too. :) Great podcast though, you and Florence are both always interesting to listen to and very fun!

Never had 2nd sock syndrome. Like Florence, I want it finished so that I can wear them. Plus, why put all that time and effort into knitting an item to not finish it? I guess I'm ocd about waste, wasting time, yarn, money, etc so that may add to my not getting 2nd sock syndrome. Oh, yes, skinny sleeves, so weird looking, yuck.
