About the oversized pulley and cage - practically I found after using them for 1 season, that its prone to attract more sticks, leaves, mud, etc collecting and is more prone to getting bent or having to clean it out mid-ride or you notice slower shifting. Thats why I stopped using the larger pulleys on both my trail and gravel bike.

Hi Dylan, can you do a video on XC tyres and how theyve changed over the years, etc when I started 8years ago i was told run 2.0s, then about 4 years ago i moved to 2.25, Now I'm hearing that Nino and scott are running 2.4s. It would be interesting to see the science of the fatter tyres. Also on the topic of bearings, I'm assuming that you have spare wheels to spare your wheel bearings, however your BB could die and need to be replaced after around 2 weeks of training no?

I completely agree and have tire inserts on both gravel and Mtn bikes. Although I have wider rims i30-35mm on my Mtn bikes and i26-i27 on my gravel bikes. I go a little bit higher in tire pressures with my tires but I have run really low pressures on occasions but it depends on the trails.

Hi Dylan, it would be amazing if you could do a video of your MTB tire choice, pressures for different scenarios such as MTB XC/Marathon races on grass, wet grass, super wet grass, dirt, mud, gravel, etc. Since you refuse to have a tire sponsor this would be super interesting to get your experience as the tire is one of the cheaper and effective improvements. You inspired me to move from Road to MTB, wax my chain, and focus more on other things besides weight :D Greetings from Germany! Love all your videos and content :)

NIce sensible approach to xc where weight savings in some ways would be more applicable than flat road, F=M*A and all, many accelerations compared to road and over long durations all add up. Factor seem to be a company hitting form all over the place and the finishing kit seems to be hitting the mark too! Both road and MTB.

Cool bike Dylan. I look forward to hearing about your adventures on the new rig and if it creaks? I asked my sponsor for a new bike and they said “no”. I did ask my sponsor if I could get a new wheels Bottom bracket to stop the creaking. It’s getting so bad one guy after a race said he could hear me getting ready to pass him! My sponsor told me to ride the old rig into the ground and pay off my divorce. I may have neglected to mention I’m my own sponsor. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Integrated bar and stem doesn't allow for simple customization of position. I don't understand how you can support that.
@roadbike1014
@roadbike1014 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, buy a bike, dial in the fit and find out the stem is too long/short. Is the factory going to give you the one you really need or are you going to have to spend extra cabbage for the right one? Chances are they aren't going to make a 75, 85 or a 95 cm. with changing geometries and stack heights, how is one supposed to know which length to get? Custom fits all around! Bad enough dealing with small, medium, large. What is that?
@ilanpi
@ilanpi 2 жыл бұрын
@@roadbike1014 It's about more than just the first adjustment when first obtaining the bicycle. If you keep the bike for some period of time, your position may evolve or devolve. This is especially true if you're not already an elite rider.

Great vid! What other tires do you recommend? The raceking on the front seems a little bit too sketchy, but maybe I'm wrong. For endurance racing, they work perfectly (on the back) but for XC they lack grip especially on turns. I've tried the thunderburt 2.35 with great lateral grip but they don't read the terrain as I wished. Kenda booster or pirelli scorpion H seems like a good option but they haven't been tested by the RR guy

Does rolling resistance test of XC tires on SMOOTH barell is even revelant? In terms of science it at least showed that they are fastest on smooth barell but should we extrapolate to terrain? As I remember swiss xc team made some back to back real track tests and 2.4 aspens appered to be the fastest. As well climbing traction could be important factor on overall performance and you can loose or gain some watts on it especially durning an mtb event. I have never seen data showing how much power could be transfered by each of tires.

Beware of these super light bikes. They use aluminum & titanium alloys where other bikes use steel, in critical areas like freehub pawls, axles, etc. Parts that last forever on normal bikes, are "consumable" and need to be replaced periodically on these super light bikes. Sometimes the wear / metal fatigue is not apparent to visible inspection, so to avoid critical failures stranding you out in the middle of nowhere, you end up replacing these parts whether they need it or not, based on mileage or calendar.

Dylan. Really insightful, I wonder how many guys who aren’t at the pointy end of competition will watch this and spend $$$ to get those marginal gains, but could be better served to focus on improving skill and fitness. I know I have a ways to go before marginal gains will make a difference in my results.
@sepg5084

Haters tend to forget that people who can spend the money to get these marginal gains can also ride their bikes and train better to improve their performance it they wanted to, but is not necessarily true vice versa as some people can ride 6 hours a day but cannot afford to spend $20k on a bike. Buy what you want to buy, ride when and where you want to ride. No need to be a hater about it, lol

When running pressures this low, I'm always afraid that my tire is somehow going to slide off the rim in sharp corners (and cause me to crash most likely). Is that something I should be worried about and just put more pressure in my tires, or is that something that's just very unlikely to happen, and my sidewalls significantly deforming under the centrifugal force is completely normal.. ?

After about 3 years the last Keurig stopped working kzfaq.infoUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf initially was able to unblock, however eventually we couldn't fix. That one was a replacement unit sent by the manufacturer after we had problems with our very first Keurig. This works fine (lol, at least for now) however I didn't realize the water reservoir was so much smaller than our prior unit. With 2 people having one or two cups of coffee each morning, it seems like I'm refilling it daily. Otherwise just happy to have the convenience of pod coffee vs. making a morning pot.

Looks like you're running a crank-based power meter (Quarq). All crank-based PM's will give inaccurate reading on suspension bike. Reason being these types of PMs do not account for vertical movement of the bottom bracket.
@JeremyCaissie

Explain
@WanderingSword
@WanderingSword 2 жыл бұрын
@@JeremyCaissie on a rigid road bike, when you press on the pedal, almost all the force will go into the crankarm (and thus the crank spider). On a suspension bike, when you press on the pedal, the bottom bracket will bob downward, So in addition to the force going into the crankarm (and thus the crank), there will also be a force acting on the bottom bracket to make it move downward. The crank PM cannot measure the force acting on the bottom bracket as it only measure the force acting on the crankarm. That's my understanding anyway.
@JeremyCaissie
@JeremyCaissie 2 жыл бұрын
@@WanderingSword mmm very interesting thing to discuss. I guess from a performance aspect you really want to focus on the force (power) through the drivetrain and not reward the rider for any power loss due to the suspension efficiency. Thanks for explaining.
@WanderingSword
@WanderingSword 2 жыл бұрын
@@JeremyCaissie I agree, measure at the wheel. Remember a couple months back Dylan did a test about "pedalling efficiency" of hardtail vs full suspension, and he presented data that the power he measured at the crank was the same when using a hardtail vs full suspension bike while doing the same time, thus he concluded that pedalling efficiency of hardtail and full suspension is the same. I replied that it was a flaw experiment. Reality is he probably had to put out more power on the full suspension to keep it the same time as the hardtail. And if you think about it, this would make sense. Suspension aborb power and convert it into heat via the shock. So he had to put in more power into the full suspension bike if that bike is to make the same time as the hardtail.
@Supafly824

But power is relative to what you are riding. If you are training on the same bike you are racing then any inefficiencies don’t matter because you encounter them whether training or racing.

The beauty of using a dropper post is that one can run a really low bar position for great climbing, and by using the dropper for descending, there is no compromise in position on the downhills. Of course, this does not explain the idiots around here riding Enduro race bikes on XC trails, struggling on the climbs in a 28-51... the new school XC, Downcountry, and short travel trail (120/130) bikes are now awesome on the ups and the downs, and rarely is there any adventure for an enduro bike on most trail rides
