My 'A Game of Thrones' Early Impression

What's going on, my fellow lords and ladies? I recently started reading the book 'A Game of Thrones' and wanted to give my take on it so far. I discuss some themes, narrative style, characters, and my thoughts on reading the book after watching the series. I am doing this too, and I just finished Whispering Woods. Listening to it changes it COMPLETELY.

I'm use to the way the actors sounded so listening to it with just the narrator and his impression is a bit "ugh" lol

@lady_knightnday A lot of the word play and how the author is using olde english really changes how it looks in your mind's eye. For example-Mance Raydar. In text, he is breaking into old tombs. And mansions are also 'manse's'. Mance is at Winterfell-he is LITERALLY a Manse/Tomb Raider when you hear the spoken word over the written. Written and Spoken word both are telling the WHOLE story-two sides to one coin. It is so brilliant I feel crazy about it lol

Nice video! 🙂 About the PVOs: GRRM is IMHO the GOAT of the Unreliable Narrator perspective. You actually have to be careful while reading the POVs (always remind yourself that it's just the character who assumes those things) because GRRM often tricks you into assuming that the unreliable POV is an objective truth - until you find out the hard way that it isn't... 😂😂🤣🤣 7:14 "the book Drogo seems more complex": And that's true for many of the book characters vs the show characters. The show flatted and simplified a lot of characters and plotlines. Especially in the later seasons.

unreliable perspective certainly makes it more interesting; it's like listening to gossip or reading someone's diary!

Interesting experience, thanks for making this video. About the age thing: Martins original plan included a 5 (?) year time jump between books, so the ages would make more sense afterwards. Then he abandond the idea and everything got a bit messy...

The series definitely gets slow at some parts and I found myself getting bored as well but the pay off is so worth it. Just wait until you get to A Clash of Kings, I was staying up till 3 AM to finish it. Great takes!
