I would LOVE to see you read the rest of the series and discuss them with Ian! But I agree, space them out as you need to since they can be pretty dark. I stopped partway into the third book a few years ago when life got busy, but your video really makes me want to pick it up again. :)

😂 It’s always exciting to see someone pick up this series for the first time. The fandom grows, as does the opportunity to trauma bond. The first book does a lot of table setting, so much so that it seems like a prologue in and of itself. Ned’s death tore me apart the first time, too. I questioned whether this book series even embraced the idea of “main character”. If Ned could die, what does that mean for everyone else? Of course, we were warned repeatedly this could happen. So much foreshadowing. The direwolf dead from an antler wound. Lady’s death by order of the king (and done by Ned’s hand, no less). Joffrey’s malicious nature. The fact the last three Starks that went south willlingly didn’t come back alive. Thinking about it much later, I came to the conclusion that Ned’s death (and Drogo’s) is the true beginning for what is destined to unfold. George let us get cozy (if you want to call it that), but now the tutorial is over and the trainings wheels are off.

I love this so much! Reading the book, watching the season and spacing the books out is probably the best. BUT i would love to see you read the entire series and i would absolutely love seeing your reaction to the show as well!

I agree, the dialogue between Tyrion and Jon towards the beginning is so powerful. I don’t think I’ve ever forgotten that line since I read that. Unfortunately the book got really long for me so I’ve been listening to the audiobook versions. I’m almost done with a clash of kings. Idk why I’m sharing this, but your videos have me immersed and I’ll be subscribing! :)

hope you’re enjoying the audiobook! wanted to share a youtube channel that has done *incredible* audiobook-style videos for the whole series, DavidReadsASOIAF. i get so immersed in his versions of the books. he even does regional accents that correspond to different kingdoms, it’s insane the work he puts in! all that to say, if you’re not content with your current audiobook i really recommend that channel!

okay the only thing i need to know right off the bat is if she will clue in on Jon's parentage this early like i did because George really really wrote that so so well where if you pay attention and some alarm bells ring in your head you can put it together, but also it's able to slip into the background as well if you're keyed into the main plot. Ugghhhh so good! I'd love to see you read the next ones also! It only gets better (but then the unending wait is so so painful lol)

Watching someone read my all-time favorite series for the first time was absolutely awesome. I loved all of your reactions. I hope you read more. It has definitely inspired me to reread them. There is so much foreshadowing, little prophecies, and clues that even three read throughs isn't enough to catch them all. These books and the lore are deep-deep. George writes almost every line with such foreboding intention.

I recommend them to you, best series I have read. Of course everyone has their views, but I think this is the only series "alive" that if finished can surpass Lord of the Rings as king of fantasy

I'd love to see you read the entire series, and I think it would be best to do one book per video. These books don't get smaller, or less complex, and it would be a shame for too much to be cut for the sake of having a reasonable length to the video. I think Martin is so good at weaving together plot, character and worldbuilding, and capturing the voices of characters. The way he uses multi-POV storytelling is great as well. Just as an example, seeing things from both Sansa and Arya's POV is great for exploring how girls are impacted by this society (Sansa performing according to expectations, and the anxiety she feels about that, and how vulnerable it makes her to be so pleasing vs Arya's non-conformity and independence bringing her into conflicts, and the shame she is made to feel about herself). There's so many things to come in the series that I hope we'll get to see your reaction to!

I loved that this had spoilers because I read A Game of Thrones last year and basically had the same reactions as you. I couldn’t believe how much I loved it! Immediate 5 stars. I’ve had trouble getting through the second one but this video made me want to pick it back up!

I hope you continue the series. Side note, after you are done with the Thurs book, A Storm.of Swords, I recommend reading the side book/collection of three novels "A Knights of the Seven Kingdoms" There's some small stuff that makes reading the fourth book really cool. Nothing crazy plot related, but just some nice small details. It also is a much happier read in terms of tone so it's a nice break from the chaos of ASOIAF lol.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Ashlynn! I, myself, saw the tv-show first. Luckily, I started late, so I could see the whole show within two months or so. I started with the books a few years later. It's an open door perhaps, but it 's a different experience. It's obvious the tv show thickens the number of persons of interest. I liked in the books that there were more characters. I thought in the tv-show the humour was more present. Anyhow, I loved your first reactions and hop to see the next ones. If you like Game of Thrones you HAVE to read Pillars of the Earth! It's not fantasy but it is sooooo good!! Who would think the building of a Cathedral in the 1100s would make a great story but oh my...it is so good! I just finished it a couple weeks ago! I did only read the first book two years ago.. like 10 minutes ago I was thinking on buy the rest of the special edition books that had been release in my country and I went to KZfaq to search for the house stark bookends until when I saw a short video about what clegane did to that 13 years old girl and then ask for the silver back and killed her brother.. while seeing that triggered me a lot… and while a read the comments talks about the books being full with sex and rape scenes, SA triggers me a lot.. I instantly lost the interest on reading the damn books I did saw the show years ago but I didn’t imagine that books were so cruel and pervert ( I know that this type of stuff did happen centurys ago ok?)

I don't often comment , just an old gramma here.. But my sons insisted I read these in 06 or 07. They warned me about parts I might want to skip. My late son couldn't wait for my reaction to the ending of book one! I will echo others in asking what you're crocheting and my first thought of oh you sweet summer child (shout out to grey area).
