9:30 I always noticed the different colored VHS tape leader holders, even as a kid LOL! I remember being fascinated if I had a tape that had a different colored one cuz I thought it was so cool at the time haha😆!

I started my editing career doing duplication in a post facility so I've used almost all of the gear at one time or another. I found using cameras for playback to be maddening but that was often the best option to get client stuff onto a pro format. Thanks for the trip in the way-back machine!

Fun fact with those panasonic vcrs if you don't already know this but if you press and hold ether the channel up or channel down buttons that will allow you to adjust the tracking. this also works on there TV/VCR combos and VCR/DVD combos. just a FYI from another person in Florida who works with VHS on a daily basis. I also convert tapes i'm in the orlando area. Except i don't use macbooks lol. I use Mac Mini's and Windows PCs and also Keep up the great work. 8mm is my least favorite format to convert.

8mm when stored correctly come out great but the cameras are much harder to find working the vhs vcrs

@@EmeraldCoastDigitizing Thankfully i don't need a 8MM camera i have a 8MM VCR and a camera picked both up years ago at a thrift store. My VCRs are a mix of Zenith, JVC and Panasonic and a few Toshiba. I've got a couple betamax machines. I'm also into LaserDisc dad and myself kept our LaserDisc player around just because we could. That's how i got to hear surround sound for the first time. Jurassic Park on LaserDisc the look on my face from what my dad told me when i was little was priceless. When i got hit by hurricane ian here in the orlando area and was running on my whole house generator I was like screw it and popped in Twister of all movies on Blu-Ray if i was going out in a storm i'm going out in style. ;-)

I got an ION FILM 2 SD PRO. It can take a digital picture of the Negative or slide and then put it on an SD card. The negative is transformed into a proper positive image and then saved as a JPG. It can be done in-house then.

11:35 Solid state drives will be less reliable that HDD. Don't recommend you use them for video capture. I used SSD for running the OS and apps. But data goes to HDD.

I think it’s crazy that you have a laptop for all of the VCRs! As someone who converts old family VHS tapes with a rig I set up at home, I appreciate the work and time it takes to convert all those tapes. Where did you get all of those laptops?

Those Panasonic VHS recorders deliver bad image quality, the cheap USB capture devices too. Where are the JVC recorders with proper time base correction and where are the Black Magic capture devices with Davinci Resolve?

@@EmeraldCoastDigitizing You may want to look into those, and offer a 2 tire service. Standard quality and Premium. The difference is night and day, close to DVD quality if done right and with decent material.

Genuine question: Why not have a centralised central server with a bunch of pcie capture cards? I am sure something like this exists, and surely it would be cheaper than than a bunch of macbooks and elagato's?

@@EmeraldCoastDigitizing you would have to make a list of all of them, what voltage they are and what uf they are and then shop around on digikey or mouser electronics
