Over the years my lighting kit has evolved from one system to another. I'd have this brand of hotshoe flashes and this brand of strobes. This one worked great, that one was ok, etc. I've been searching for one cohesive system and I finally settled on Phottix gear.
The one thing that has really simplified my life is having one trigger that works seamlessly between hotshoe flash and strobes. I know there are several systems out there these days and I looked at all of them and settled on Phottix for the balance of price, durability, and ease of use.
In this video I walk through my lights and modifiers that I use for location photography. Here's a list of the most important parts of the kit.
Modifier Bag - Lightware - amzn.to/2tk2jFc (I have the 48" version of this)
Think Tank Logistics Manager - amzn.to/2thLNVN
Phottix Indra 500 - amzn.to/2tTOXwn
Phottix Indra 360 - amzn.to/2sNP7qF
Phottix Mitros Plus - amzn.to/2tTkYov (I use the Canon version)
Phottix Stratos II - amzn.to/2sjlNES
SMDV 110cm Bowens Mount Speedbox - amzn.to/2sj2hsr
SMDV 70cm Bowens Mount Speedbox - amzn.to/2thk2N8
Phottix Double Fold Umbrella - amzn.to/2rYp3Xe
Impact 60" Umbrella - amzn.to/2sehJe5
Bowens Mount Fresnel - amzn.to/2siQCJS
MagMod Basic Kit - amzn.to/2tTMYby
MagMod MagBeam Kit - amzn.to/2sjrxi6
Manfrotto 420b Boom Stand - amzn.to/2thTs6F
Lumopro Travel Stand - amzn.to/2rYDiv4
Tether Tools Table - amzn.to/2sjrFhA
Godox S-Type Bowens Hotshoe Bracket - amzn.to/2rYwGfZ
Lee Filters Gel Pack - amzn.to/2rYI1Nk
I use Eneloop AA batteries for my flash - amzn.to/2sjb7WX
External Flash Battery Pack (Not in the video) - amzn.to/2sNRGZP

And umpteen dozen years later, I still have my bag of early Vivitar 283 flashes with their SL2 slave triggers that I bought from Frank and Jon at Wing's Camera in Atlanta back in the 60's & 70's dark ages. Yep, I've moved on (I like Photogenic), but that bag has saved my ass too many times to just let it go. I have Gossen meters that are fantastic, but for flash, my Sekonics are never fail. Welcome back and after 50 years as a working photographer, I still always learn something new from your videos. Thanks for caring and sharing!

The first camera I bought there (they were on Edgewood at the time, where Woodruff Park is now) was a used Nikon F in the summer 0f 1968 to replace one that had been stolen. Smitty is long gone, but I still have the Nikon. My last purchase was a like new looking 120mm S-Planar macro lens that I bought a couple of years ago for my 500C/M. Thank you, Mike , for keeping the legend alive!

Great to see you back! I am very excited by the godox ad200 - it opens up so many travel possibilities. I'm pretty inspired by the simplicity of your set up, too, I'm always lusting for new gear but it's amazing what can be achieved with an umbrella, reflector and speedlight.

Lot of great stuff here, thanks so much. I recently converted over to the Phottix Indra strobes(1 500, 2 360s so far) in combination with LumoPro LP180R (with the built in Photix Receivers). I shoot Canon so I can use the Phottix Odin II Transmitter and it controls all of them with up to 5 groups. It is an awesome set up.

Great video Zack. You don't know how similar our journeys have been. I move into medium format about a year after you did. I started with a 30MP Leaf back then upgraded to the 60MP Credo back shortly after that through Capture Integration. The reason I know I migrated about a year after you did was because I was constantly complaining to them about the DF body. They said I sounded like you (without me even knowing who you were). Anyway, I too upgraded to the XF and while not perfect, it's MUCH better. Anyway, regarding lighting, I had been shooting Einsteins. But the Godox ecosystem intrigued me. I started with 1 speedlight and was impressed. Like you , driven by the desire to have 1 trigger control everything and the Bowens mount system, I invested in 2 AD200s, 1 AD600, and 2 QT600II studio strobes. Now everything is controlled by 1 XT1 trigger. I get full TTL and HSS with my Canon gear, but it works great in manual with my Phase gear as well. The main advantage that Godox had over Phottix for me was no external batteries and battery cables. Ut's ony been about 5 months for me, but so far so good.
