Running a 12v compressor sleeper cab setup from Rencool, eliminating the need for an inverter...working great 5yrs later. 🤷🏼♂️ Upgrading my AGM setup to lithium ATM though. Installing 2x victron 30a DC to DC chargers and 600ah (3x 200) of lithium. Can't fault the complete 12v setup.

You need to use lithium batteries, with more watt hours, putting them in the cab to protect them from freezing. 2400 WH battery system would be much better with a larger inverter.

Yesterday I discovered a 1800W inverter mounted in the cab behind the passenger seat. Removed and tested it and it worked. It has connections for AC input power for charging the batteries so I can wire it up to a portable generator. Planning on buying a new inverter that has contacts for remote starting a generator. Will be looking for a diesel generator I can fuel from my tanks and remote start...

Get some AGM batteries with 120+ AH(Amp Hours), or some lithium batteries 150Ah, group 31

I have a battery apu freedom hf 1800 inverter. I’m having the insofar my secondary batteries not charging. Help

My 2022 freightliner drives me insane it seems to start and stop the engine 5-10 times a night even with the curtain closed it can’t be good for the longevity of the engine really nutty yes I hate the sound of the diesel apu also last year I ran up north mostly going to be different this year in the south

Your truck should not stop and start that much. What setup do you have? Do you have optimized idle, how do you set it when you're on a break, what temps outside are you sleeping in, etc? The more we (and you) know about your setup helps us to fix your problem

Talk to battleborn batteries get you some sponsored lithium then add couple of big solar panels on the roof.

Have you ever figured out how many gallons per hour a Cummins ISX consumes while idling? On my truck it would bring my mpg way down if I slept with the truck running. Depending on the price of diesel you could save big by not idling. I remember paying $3.80 per gallon in the Houston area about 9 or 10 years ago (Houston area=decent fuel prices). The line haul price didn't go up and the truck payment definitely didn't go down. This mostly applies to OTR drivers but at the end of the day it's about making a profit and making your truck payment. It's different when you own the truck. Thanks for posting. You gave me a great idea.
@LifeWithChase2 жыл бұрын
I haven't scientifically measured it or anything but I believe it's about 1 gallon per hour so 10hr break is roughly 10 gallons times say $3.00 gallon. Roughly $30 per night in fuel plus additional wear on engine and additional oil changes etc.
@tiorobot2 жыл бұрын
@@LifeWithChase I've heard that it's around that but wasn't sure. Still $30.00 a night for an OTR driver that's out for 20-25 days adds up.

Going try build one myself with a 12 volt mini split. Batteries etc. Just figuring out how to do the battery charging! Isolation.

All my batteries are tied together not isolated the inverter is supposed to shut down before batteries get to low.

Did you do it? Do you need extra alternator or you can connect ot to the one already there
@kyvirlogistics499310 ай бұрын
@@truckandteaI ran a second alternator on my XL. It’s a completely separate system but the ac is draining the batteries faster than it will charge. I have two lithium 12v 100ah ran in parallel for a 24v air conditioner. I think I need 200ah. I hear you can get about 4/6 hours out of the larger amp hours.

Check out otrookie, he just did a mini split, did a pretty clean job but he's running a small gas generator to run it. Says its working good, I'm like you waiting to see how well it holds up.... always wondered about those battery APU's.
@LifeWithChase2 жыл бұрын
I don't really like the gas generators cause usually low run time small fuel capacity and then you have to have some where to store gas etc etc.

Keep in mind, if you are using AGM batteries, constantly draining them down to 11 v will kill them pretty quickly

I bet the truck starts up to keep the batteries charged every few hrs and helps add additional cooling while the batteries are recharging. There is no way a battery apu will run 34hrs...
@SamC9922 жыл бұрын
How many times does the engine start and stop on a 10 hour hour break?
@chrissmyers28842 жыл бұрын
@@LifeWithChase It won't run 34 hours, you're correct. At about 14 hrs, the optimized idle will start and run the truck for an hour at 750 rpm. Get's it from 13.2 volts back up to 13.8 volts.
@chrissmyers28842 жыл бұрын
@@SamC992 Never...a fully charged battery APU after a 10 hour driving session running just the AC in the sleeper (I keep it about 72 Degrees) doesn't require a recharge. If I turn on the Keurig on the inverter in the morning, or want to use the Microwave, then I just start the truck and let it idle during my pretrip.

I will add I went on Ebay somewhere and found custom cut reflective sun shades for my truck. I think they were 110$ for the complete set, and they fit perfect. That's the first thing I do when I park is put those up to keep the sun out from my cab. It is a pain to take down all the gps, camera mount, cell phone mount stuff that suctions to the windshield every time, but you can feel the difference when you cut the sun from beaming into the cab. I don't use my bunk curtain, I just use the windshield curtains, FWIW.

Wouldn't a small Honda generator work better? They are very quite with almost no vibration.
@LifeWithChase2 жыл бұрын
It would but then you have to worry about run time only 3-4 hrs usually and getting gas and a place to store gas and someone stealing the generator if it's not well attached. If you can deal with that then it's a viable option.
