Man, I may have said this before, but I love that you are teaching your boy how to climb and rig old school. I started out the same way years ago and I can tell you right now, as advanced as I've gotten, nothing trumps that very fundamental knowledge. Equipment and rigging systems fail, like you said, and it typically fails at the most inconvenient moments. Bravo, sir, bravo. I love this channel.

Great job Buckin loved the video, my son is 14 and lives with his mom but stays with me on weekends and summer. He worked with me all summer dragging brush, loading wood. He would even get me up early so we could lift weights before work. We had so much fun. The last day of summer break we both got a little misty eyed. Thank you for sharing this..!

Climbing is in his blood for sure Buckin. New climbers struggle with trusting your gear and being at height. He seems really level headed, willing to listen and learn and confident in himself. Also pretty fearless or crazy like most tree guys.

Great job Hogan! These are the days you will cherish in the future as you look back and reflect. When I was about your age, I worked in the woods for a gypo loggin' outfit and had the privilege to set chokers behind a cat skinner who just happened to be my Dad. He was a great teacher and would have fit in well in the Army of Kindness. Most of my time, however, was spent chasin' on the landing wrestling powersaw and swingin' an axe. I chose a different career path but those days are etched deeply into my memory. Buckin', I'm sure you are building cherished memories of yourself and Hogan as well. There can be no greater joy than to watch a child grow and mature into something special. Be kind!

Hey Hogan Way to go young man. You did an AWESOME job topping that tree. Keep practicing and listening to your pop and you'll be well on your way to being a great tree faller, just like your old man. Hey Buckin', I know you're beaming with pride, my friend. I could see it in your face. Watching Hogan grow over the last couple of years has been a real joy. People like yourself who have a son or daughter that wants to follow in their parents footsteps are truly blessed indeed. I followed in my dads footsteps as an electrical engineer and even though he's been gone for a couple of years now, I am reunited with him every time I see an old set of drawings with his initials or his name on them. Good evening to the True Blues and welcome to the new subscribers. Pop into the comment section and say hello. Blessings and love to all.

I don't know anything that I love more than watching an expert arborist in action. Felling big trees is an art and a talent. It is so great that your' son is trailing along and learning from you. He is a lucky young man able to work side by side with his Dad. I'm sure he appreciates your' patience and the great way you teach him the right way to do what you both do so well and most of all "together". I can't emphasize the togetherness enough. You are fortunate to have each other. Great job Hogan and Billy, keep it up.

Awesome man! Grew up working with my Dad in the floor covering business, from 8 to 18 when we weren't in school. Now that he's gone, they're some of my most treasured memories. Spring boarded me into the construction trades where I then honed in on Cabinet and furniture making. He was always self employed and parted that gift onto me.

I wish the Longleaf pines of NC had tiny limbs like that. I go up the tree dropping tree trunks the whole way up. 8 to 10 inches thick. My ground crew always comment on they think I am cutting a tiny limb until it comes down and hits the ground.

"Natural crotch rigging" is nothing more than the basic fundamentals of tree work. If you can't rig with just a rope then you don't have the basic fundamentals of what my father called "Ropeology" and shouldn't be ringing anything down at all. No amount of gear and gadgets is going to make anybody a better tree man. That stuff may just make our life easier after we have the fundamentals down in my opinion. But I'm very much an old dog just now learning new tricks. It's a beautiful thing to watch your son learning these things from you. These lessons will be with him his entire career and are priceless! God bless y'all

My Dad was a Printing Pressman and took that in High School and I did work with My Dad for 3 years and He showed Me how to setup and Run a Large Printing Press when I was 18. The Guy doing My job on the 2nd Shift was 40 and no one showed Him anything ever. I went in the Navy and repair Radars and Radios to the component level. Good Mentor's in anything are hard to find. Safety can never get too old to to repeat it again. We had to pass pole Climbing Class at the Phone Company and climbing with spikes is intimidating and We never went up more than 25 feet. I was 45 years old when I took that class and cutting out and free sliding down a pole that has been used for training was like a bunch of branch stubs. I did another 20 years with the phone company and My climber never left the box after Pole Climbing School. I am in total respect for You Men that climb and cut those trees. JOE CAPOZZIELLO I’ve took the same challenge with my girlfriends children. Getting them off the couch and Outside! I’m not a guru or anything but I know one thing. You aren’t abusing your child by teaching them how to work and enjoy the outdoors. It’s the best thing for there mental health (happiness). Who will teach them if you don’t? And I gotta be honest. In the beginning it makes you feel horrible.
