I think, it's a very special moment for a father, when his son is heading out for his first real job - enjoy! If you have electricity in your shop, I call it ridiculous to fiddle around with a cordless drill. As a wedge gets smaller to the bottom, you need a smaller drillbit than the top width of the wedge, just big enough to release the pressure. Most axe-heads are the smallest about in the middle of the eye - no need to drill much deeper. Drilling into the handle makes it useless, no way to get it tight again with another wedge.

soaking in the hot springs after work was quite fantistic. and the river was mighty cold and perfect for the warmer days. The boys got chewed out by the pilot for scratching the interior of the heli with our caulk boots and the next really hot day when he had calmed down he flew the whole crew to a calm sandy spot in the river we had been eyeing up on our flight to and from the block to make it up to us. spent the whole afternoon swimming and laughing it up, it was a glorious day i will never forget. Happy to say that the company i am working for has quite a bit more work planned in that area, beautiful country.

Hi Buckin. Long time viewer but not much commenting. Love your content and your message. I’ve saved a lot of handles from old axes and one tool that works good for cutting out wedges is the “oscillating tool” with a wood blade. Fein is a good brand, but there are quite a few out there. Probably work good in combo with a drill bit. Keep up the good work.
