I used this song in my mom's flower tribute for her funeral a few months ago. It was one of her favorite songs. Even people who barely knew her were brought to tears by this wonderful song. RIP Mom. You'll always be my buddy.

When I was a little girl and followed my father around, he often sang this song to me. It is a song, that has like so many songs become lost. It is bittersweet to hear it again.

the last video I have of my grandparents is my grandmother singing this to my grandfather. They were killed in a car accident days later.

Doris Day does not get much credit for being the great singer that she was. This tune shows how tremendous she was. Beautiful and moving.

This song was written by my great-uncle, Walter Donaldson, and was sung to my siblings, cousins, and I since we were born...as a young man, he had fallen very much in love with a beautiful Ziegfeld girl; they were engaged to be married, when she became very ill and died. Heartbroken, he wrote “My Buddy” in remembrance of her. He did eventually marry and had a daughter, Mom’s cousin Ellen. Doris Day sings the song beautifully, but this version she is singing only includes the chorus; there are two verses as well. Glad to see so many people enjoy it; he was an incredibly prolific songwriter; many were written in collaboration with Gus Kahn. This is one of my favorites; I perform it myself along with a host of other folks, it seems so timeless and appropriate in times of loss when words fail us...

I love this song, written by Walter Donaldson, his most durable song may well have been My Buddy written in l922, inspired by the unexpected and heartbreaking death of his young fiancé and curiously adopted during World War II as a song about male camaraderie among the allied troops. A simple but mesmerizing waltz tune, which, sung by an evocative singer, can still subdue a noisy nightclub audience into a reverent silence. I fondly think about some pets, and some people that I miss when I hear it.

M.J. Leger. Well, Mr Donaldson wrote the melody but the lyrics were written by Mr. Khan. In the Movie: "I'll see you in my dreams", they show Mr. Khan life. Ms. Day played Mrs. Khan in that fillm. I recommend that you should watch that film.

I agree Nada - a great song by Doris. I don't really like much of today's music - but I'm not that young so .... ! I really love the music from the 40's and 50's. I was a kid in the 50's -- so I must have been born too late. Glad you enjoyed ... hope you have a lovely weekend !!

yes loved it, all of them are my actresses and i love all of them so much but of course i love doris the most with all my heart i am probably her youngest fan because i'm only 17 and i have loved her all my life at least from about 6 years old. i'm certainly probably her biggest fan in the united kingdom. thanks

I have an all-white cat named, Buddy, that Doris and I sing to every morning. His ears perk up, along with his appetite. He must submit to brushing 1st(which he hates) before he gets breakfast. I swear that the combination of Miss Day's voice and title of this song, has worked magic. Buddy's almost a lamb while this is playing.

Of all the female actors and singers who have ever recorded their voices, I believe Doris Day's has got to be the clearest and best controlled. I have tried for all of my adult life to be so clear and pleasant to listen to. Your my hero.

Tom Jones Actually, KZfaq singer and The Voice contestant; Christina Grimmie, sang this for a movie she co-starred in; along with several other Jazz standards. It was called The Matchbreaker kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f6-dnMlnqZuunac.html . Sadly she was murdered on June 10, 2016 after a concert in Orlando, Florida.

@@waynezimmerman1950 OhmiGod, I remember that. That was so horrible! This is an old song to take on, and quite obscure. In the movie you link to, she does the opening, the "verse." Not many do. Sweet voice and presence.

@@cathydew She did the same with three other jazz classics as well; sung by legends like Rosemary Clooney and Marilyn Monroe. And Christina effortlessly matched them in quality, every single time. Thankfully she's left a catalog of vocal tracks to as yet unreleased original music, and a legacy that family and fans across the world tend to- with love. If you only know her from her death, I hope you will look up all the amazing things Grimmie accomplished during her life.

As a little girl, my dad's dream was for me to play the violin in concert and dedicate the song "My Buddy" to him. After one year of playing it in 5th grade, I'd had enough of the instrument and quit. Giess I'll have to find some other way to impress him.
