@@cammackey I think it’s more about the gear around the camera that makes the camera now days. You want a camera that’s open source 😂 That have. Lot of options and good glass. It’s more about the mount, the menu system and how much beating your camera can handle. I also think it’s good if the camera have some odd ball behavior or accept vintage glass. I really love Nikon glass especially all the older Ai-s stuff. Chromatic weirdness, old Manual focus with some sticky feel or a lens that sucks a little bit but also do some things very awesome. @@cammackey The new tech is mostly about the AF options + low light af. Great for wildlife & action shooters. Some easier to operate features like the menus & switches for stills to video , S&Q, etc. Maybe frame speed & video for the medium light series of cameras depending if you need them or not. Just my thoughts. Nikon's new half stacked sensor is pretty good for the in between price point market. I mean the Cannon R5 was doing 20 fps over 3 years ago but had no buffer & again, AF performance has improved in 3+ years. I guess next, cameras will have a voice telling the models how to pose, ha!

Ha, that comment at 6:56 is spot on. Eventually, if you're a photographer who's been doing it long enough, all roads seem to lead to Leica. Lol.
@davidgfisher29 күн бұрын
Absolutely not true. Most true professional photographers I know don't own Leicas. I've completed 1,400 architecture/interior projects in the US and internationally, as well as countless shoots in other areas of photography over the years since I got my first Nikon when I was a kid in the 80's. I've never once had any desire to own an overpriced Leica. I wouldn't trade any of my Nikons or Soviet film cameras/lenses for any Leica, because the Leicas aren't better. The "build quality" claim is a myth. What I've seen over and over and over again is that people who buy Leicas are identical to the 25 year old girls who buy 2k handbags because of their insecurities,, or the dentists who try to make you believe their 10-15k bicycle is worth the price.

as a long time viewer, I’m glad it only took a couple years for you to finally land on Lumix and realize how enjoyable they are to shoot! I really miss false color on the S5IIX when shooting without a monitor (waveform is fine), but otherwise it’s kind of the perfect camera for run and gun and social shooting situations since it’s low profile . esp because the open gate image is really flexible . and the image from the BRAW with highlight recovery enabled in Resolve is beautiful .

Now that I have a Z6III, Lumix S5II and open gate have taken a back seat to a much faster sensor and the low light flexibility of ISO6400. I also got rid of my BMCC camera. Nikon has refining to do with firmware (shutter angle and anamorphic support at the top of the list) but for the size, features, and price there’s very little to complain about.

I honestly love this format for you. You’re a hell of a rambler, Cam. I thought it was funny that this video is about how camera gear isn’t exciting but you’re definitely still excited about it. No hate just a funny observation on my end. I recently kicked my GAS. I think trying to increase my clientele and realizing I have basically all the gear I need to make whatever photo is in my head helped me do so. Do I still look at new cameras? Definitely. But I do it with reason now. I know the next camera will be a video centric one as I’m directing on multiple projects with DP’s but would like to have the option to scale down for smaller clients where I can just film everything myself. There’s a journey that brings maturity into the camera purchases and reason to that. Great video! Keep em coming.

I *hope* we *possibly* might see some original/forgotten ideas implemented in new cameras. Here’s some desirable for me: - vertically oriented viewfinder for portrait shooters (p17 I know but with scale focusing it’s really not a portrait camera) - eye-tracking AF but the eye of the photographer is being tracked - remember canon eos33/elan7 with this feature? - 3:4 and 5:4 in camera *view* and raw modes for most cameras. Is it really that hard to do?! - in camera hyperfocal auto mode (it stays hyperfocal while you change aperture and/or zoom) - wide-tele switching lens - click the button and 35 is converted to 70 or otherwise - like in those film Nikon point and shoots - midrange light zooms: 35-150/3.5 or 4 (tamron made one but it’s heavy). Do all of us really need 28mm or 24mm? - extra-small tele-zooms like 75-150/3.5 - wdyt?

As you say, when you compare the fuji files to the Nikon FF, it is night and day. I'm just filthy with myself for slumming it with Fuji for so long. I now hate to even hear the name Fuji. Unfortunately here in Australia they are doing an all-out advertising blitz. Every time I watch a YT, there is a damned Fuji add. I love my two Nikon Z6ii's and six of their wonderful Z lenses.
