My Cheap SAAB 95 Aero BROKE DOWN On The ROAD *We Fix It*

It happened, driving down the road in my new to me 2002 SAAB 9-5 Aero the engine just stopped running. After sitting on the side of the road for awhile it started back up and got us to and from our destination. When it died I checked for fuel pressure and it appeared to be low, then it magically restarted. It never threw a code but it must be fuel or crank position sensor related. We have a ton of new OEM parts to install so let's get going and see if we can knock everything out.

Saab produced Excellent cars, I own a 2006 9-3 2.0T, and drive it everyday, no big issue ! The only thing costed me some money is the Engine Firing Module last year ( 2019 ) which is a very common issue ! Unfortunately GM " Murdered " SAAB and no more production since 2012 .... What a Big Pity ! !

I have a tip on the key fob reception issue. The antenna for the key fob actually runs through the center console under the trim and carpet. The antenna wiring is also pretty thin and short. A quick fix for this is to pull the antenna out, add some thicker gauge wiring, and instead of placing it back where it is fitted stock, slip it out and between the center console trim lip and carpeting. I left a little bit of the added wiring exposed hanging down towards the floor carpeting where the seat back rests. That way, any wiring that’s exposed is hidden by the seat next to the console. I had a black interior so it was easier to hide the black wiring but it makes the key fob reception go from terrible to working across a big box store parking lot

It's too bad GM's purchase of Saab was a poor corporate decision. Kind of like Ford purchasing Jaguar, Volvo, and Land Rover. Saab has always been an under appreciated car. Glad you found one in relatively good condition and a network for parts/supplies. Now get rid of the Bimmers. Those my friend are a chain around your neck. You do inspire others.

Loving the Saab 9-5 content! Please keep making more! This exact thing happened to me with my 9000. There was a P0300 code. I had talked to a Saab Master Technician and he said that the Saab CPS famously don't work after years of being exposed to so much heat. He said if they were out in their Saabs and this happened, they'd pour cool water on the exposed sensor and this would rectify the situation. Pretty interesting. He stressed that aftermarket CPS were a bad idea because they are build far more poorly than OEM. At least the OEM ones last for quite some time. Keep a spare T7 in the trunk though. Never a bad idea. I do in my 9000.

I own a Saab automotive repair shop in Sweden and i have repaired tens of thousands of 9-5s, And i have never had a issue with the fuel relay. However ive replaced thousands of fuel pumps on them. Problem is that the brushes in the pump motor get worn over time. If you fold the rear seat up and forward and pop the fuel pump cover in the centre of the floor you can acces the fuel pump assembly. By tapping on the top of the fuel pump assembly it usally casues enough vibrations to get the fuel pump going again, this however only works a few times so replace the fuel pump asap.

I've had a Saab mechanic tell me it was the fuel pump and had the repair performed, but it did not fix the problem. A $10 relay that takes 5 minutes to replace solved the issue. Do this first, before committing to buying a pump and dropping the fuel tank to get to it.
@Halibrand
@Halibrand 4 жыл бұрын
@@john15yt No need to drop the tank on a 9-5 1997-2010. They have a acces panel under the rear seat. Did you own a 9-5 or 9-3? Ive replaced some fuel pump relays on 9-3 2003-2005.

Greetings from the U.K. These cars are always worth the time and trouble. After buying a 9000 over 25 years ago, I'm now on my fifth Saab 95. They are timeless, with buckets of style.... I love 'em. However, my latest acquisition, a 2005 Vector Sport had the G.M. touch....that hideous brushed steel look dash just HAD to go, and be replaced with an original light wood finish. You seem to know what you're doing, so all I can offer, bearing in mind the age of the car, is check for perishing on ALL your smaller vacuum hoses (around the back of the engine), along with the serpent belt, (good for 65K), if you haven't already. I didn't catch the oil you'd bought, but when you do the oil change, it's SYNTHETIC ONLY!!!

The "clock" on the isscraper is for helping you park in scandinavia. In most of the bigger city´s you have free parking for a limited time, like an hour or two. So when you park the car you set the time on the clock and the parking attendant know when you parked and when its time to leave your spot. (And keep stats, there are signs when you driving downtown that lets you know roughly how many free spaces there are.)

2002 SAAB 9-5 Aero owner here. It's difficult to isolate the problem without a TECH 2 diagnosis. The engine sounds just fine when its running. I don't think it's an internal mechanical problem. it sounds like an electrical issue. It could be a bad engine ground. It could be corrosion in the large male/female plug for the main engine bay wire harness that supplies power to the Engine Control Module. That's the big wire harness that runs along the back of the engine along the firewall. The harness connector is under a large black plastic cover just left of the brake Hydraulic Unit if you are facing the engine. If you open this harness plug use EXTREME care. The plug pins are extremely fragile with age and will break easily. I probably wouldn't recommend doing this unless you have some experience with pin replacement just in case. Also check the battery cable connection to the starter and alternator to make sure the screws are tight and not corroded. That could affect battery charging. Also the crank sensor could be a problem as well. The fuel pump could be suspect as well. Good luck. Nice looking car.

Hi brother!!! I have had many saab aero in my life and they are fantastic cars. They almost never break, they just go and go, like volvo cars, depending on how you treat them obviously. The most common faults they are, sensor on the block behind the turbo, it is the one that causes the engine to stop and then when it cold it starts up again, then moisture in the oil, spark plug cassette, crank case. There are more but these are the most common, but as a car it is the best. Never sell it they will be worth a lot of money, here in Sweden they are already going up in price. good luck brother!!!! greetings from Sweden

That parking timer thing is what they use Germany and probably other parts of Europe. For a space that has a two hour parking limit you indicate the time you parked your car so you don’t get a ticket. Be back in hours though 🤷🏻‍♂️

You're either faking it or the most sure-handed individual when working with connectors, often blind, that I've ever seen. Great talent to have.

Crankanglesensor is good to change. If they break the go intermittent when warm. Cooling them down can work for temporarily

You need to find out why it died and why later on no pressure at the rail, maybe a new pump would be a good watch 👍
