@@strifethewise9249 I generally am alone in my life and find that at least I have more time to do productive things with my life. I've read a lot, tried things, developed new hobbies. "Friends" were only a waste of my time. I talk to people on occasion but feel exhausted or like I've wasted too much time talking to them. No one wants to take the right things seriously or have the right priorities in life. For them life's just a game about getting married, being egotistical, whatever else. They don't care about the things that really matter.

I have a chronic illness and I only get to leave my apartment about 4 hours a week with a worker. I live alone in disability housing and I only have casual online friends now and I rarely see my family. I'm 24. It's been like this for a few years. There is little to nothing in means of local support. I've given up. I only talk to 5 people outside the internet and 3 of them are medical professionals. This is reality for more people than you think.

@@simplici-tstemple4567 I know how you feel with feeling like a loser. I always thought to myself that I couldn't be the only one feeling so lonely, recently I see more and more people speaking up about it which is such fantastic thing. I don't know if things have always been this way in life and I just got older or if social media is making people more depressed, unhappy and lonely. In my case I live in UK the events which I think lead to me feeling this way vary from brutish individualism and stiff upperlip culture, lack of community, past bullying and social anxiety. I just found this post today! I also have Systemic Lupus as well as quite a number of unconnected illnesses. I am sooo lonely I just feel live is not worth living. I remember when we were living at our home in the U.S.A., I used to attend my neurologist every 2 weeks. He used to schedule my appointments last thing so that we could cover all the ground we needed to. One day as we walked to the parking lot he warned me that, with so many chronic illnesses, I might one day just be left alone with just my husband for company (& he hates to talk.........). I reassured him that I was sure with my large extended family that I'd never be lonely. His reply was that, if doctors aren't taught how to deal with patients who are chronically ill, how did I expect "laymen" to stick around, never mind understand. His words were prophetic. My dog is now my official best friend. I hate having to take steroids for my S.L.E. I know they've kept me alive but the "chipmunk cheeks" aren't so attractive :-). I'm back in the U.K. & ain't our health care system wonderful??? Wish you were nearer, we could start our own little support group. I hope today is a good one for you. Thanks for the post!

Yeah, I don't drink so people assumed I wouldn't want to go out, as if you _have_ to drink if you go to a pub, so was never invited. After 5-years of it (18-23) I gave up hope, now I'm 35 and on my own. Over time people just dissappear.

I think it is all about family. Assuming that family is not at war with itself. I ran a bed and breakfast with my mum for a while. It was like having a series of families. We never felt lonely with people coming and going. It was a perfect mixture of long and short term guests. Mum died and the heart of the house along with it. And the great guests never returned. I believe "no family - no point." Strange how there can be so much loneliness with 7.7 billion people on the planet. We're designed as social beings aren't we?

Being lonely with chronic pain or illness is extremely difficult. Many people just don't get it. Love someone today because you never know how one person could be suffering. They could be alone and you might be the only light in their world. Especially when they're dealing with physical health problems. Don't leave the sick alone. There's not enough talk about this and I've chosen to do something about it to help others and spread awareness. Nobody should have to suffer in the dark without a support system when their body is attacking them and they wish to escape the horrible agony their conditions cause them. You can have friends but many of them are gonna be non present in your world because they're stuck in their own. With illness, i can't have all the friends i have do that even though i do get why they do, because i can't go through this alone. I need people who will reach out and offer help because sometimes I'm not even able to talk or get out of bed. I try my best but with limitations the fight is much harder. This isn't as simple as when people say, learn to stand on your own, well if your body won't let you you need help. I hope everyone out there who is medically ill has help and assistance on the regular if they need it.

I have a severe chronic illness and have been paralyzed for decades. I don’t get to do the things I was able to do years ago; in fact I am not able to leave the house much any longer, but I’m not lonely. My husband, children and very small circle of friends are enough to sustain me because I have so many interests that keep my mind busy. I have learned a new language, taken free online courses from Ivy League universities, learned how to cook all kinds of ethnic food, studied comparative religion, learned how to meditate, and so much more. The internet is more than a platform for social media - it brings the world’s knowledge to you. Make use of it when you are stuck in bed, and you’ll be less worried about not being able to go clubbing. That’s something most people grow out of anyway; you aren’t missing anything by not going. I get that young people can feel isolated, especially if they are ill, but there are things you can do to keep yourself mentally healthy.

This is a beautiful video Jameisha. Your making a difference 4 others who are suffering too. They can reach out. I have a debilitating disease that began in my thirties. One thing I have to say, when I became disabled I found out who my friends were. They are still my support system. Those were not your friends. They were aquantences. Real friends are selfless. Myself I choose to be alone. I have made in many lives doing selfless work to help others have free programs that help them have better lives. It's exhausting but rewarding. Just because we have a chronic illness doesn't mean we should give up. Turn a negative into a positive and leave your mark on the world.

You can be in a multitude of people, with many friends and still be lonely. The world may seem to offer solutions to it but they are all but just quick fixes. The world and all things in it are vanity. I've found a secure place, my one in all, one that sticks closer than a brother...one always there for me regardless, one who satisfies me. That person is Jesus Christ. You can try all other methods, go! But that void will always remain. That emptiness will always remain. What your heart seeks for is union with your maker.

I don't know what your belief may be, and what and who you believe in. Jesus is the man that died so you may be healed. I know it's not easy dealing with the condition you have and feeling lonely. We all go through trials and tribulations, but in different ways. In life we will have struggles, but God is a healer. He loves you no matter who you are or what your sickness is. Start talking to Him telling Him how you feel. God knows all things; He just wants to hear from you. Have faith and believe that Jesus is the only one that can help you with your loneliness. He wants to be your friend. Trust and believe that He can come to your rescue. Medicine definitely helps. God created people to be creative, and that's why we have scientists, and doctors. Yes there's scientists, doctors, social workers and psychiatrist because He knew we at times in our lives we may need these professionals. Be blessed, walk by faith and be healed!
