Guys, don’t sleep on the insurance! My husband and I have had it for a couple years. The realization hit us one day that a person could walk out our door with tens of thousands of dollars by grabbing a few books off our wall. Not to mention the fear of a fire or some other disaster. It’s well worth it for peace of mind. One tip to reduce cost is to get a safe deposit box for your big key books. Insurance companies will give you a break for that.

Safe deposit box? That sounds good, but I wonder how big that box would be, how expensive that could get over the years. My mother gave me a fireproof document bag for Christmas.im thinking that a few of those may do the trick.
@Wr0ngNumb3r
@Wr0ngNumb3r 7 ай бұрын
@@cardsfan5100 Nothing is really fireproof. Any safe or document bag has a rating as to how long it would last before it would be destroyed in a fire. However, that says nothing about the temperature in the bag which will damage and destroy Comics’s books. I’d think a book in a cgc case would fair even worse.

Yoooo careful with the fireproof stuff. My parents got a fireproof safe for documents, and it ended up drenching EVERYTHING! Dunno why, but it would collect a ton of moisture.

My bank has safety deposit boxes that will hold about 10 cgc books for 60$ a year. Make sure you have 2 names on your box in case of emergency. No need for a lawyer to get involved in opening it. If something happens to either name on the box.

Just before the pandemic kicked off I submitted a priceless book to a CGC agent at a Con. It got lost for about a year. I was so freaked out over losing that valuable book so I bought insurance with Collectible Insurance since then. I called the State Farm and Allstate and they just did not have good coverage for a comic collection. Collectible Insurance specializes with collections, haven’t had any issues with them but haven’t needed to use it either, thank god 😂

One thing CBCS and CGC could and should take from EGS is the UV protected slabs.

I have home & contents insurance & after a flood that destroyed the contents 3 full short boxes, I was able to claim on each issue after my LCS helped me pull together a valuation on each title. I was able to make claim & replace pretty much every title that had been damaged. A life saver and well worth having as I’m unsure I would have been able to replace every missing issue otherwise. 📚

Joe 1, .....aaaaargh! I completely sympathize.

Hey guys, how are you? One has to always be careful when it comes to protecting their valuables. Comic books are no different. I am contemplating taking a table at a local comic book show, but I am more worried about people attacking the table as a distraction while others take books because I just can’t watch everyone. I think that it is most important to have at least two people for the simple reason that you have to have eyes on everything. It’s not just storage lockers with books get taken from.

ON CBCS new services, I am thinking of slabbing services without grading. They do just the slabbing for you at a lower price. I suspect many people would love to slab some PC, sentimental value comics this way. Often PC books have little market value and are not in the collection for their grade. I suspect some may even feel a low-ish grade on the slab as something of an insult to a cherished personal treasure. In the box where they now state the grade, they could post PC (for Personal Collection). They can also offer the client to decide themselves on two letters to put there (mine could be HB, for my first and last name). And they could offer the option of a label without a box for the grade. The grading companies save on the grading effort (which I suspect is their main bottleneck in throughput), so they can still make a profit. This is especially the case if their slabbing department has unused capacity. They would also strengthen their ties with their clients. Happy if this gets discussed in "You've got mail"!

I have several DC Previews b/w promos, my LCS at the time had them lying around on a table and the owner told me to take what I wanted. Interesting curios from a different era. Richard, turtles float and swim, no surprise that your copy of TMNT #2 survived the great basement flood. As a child, I'd race home from Primary school to watch the afternoon cartoons and Looney Tunes was always first up, followed by (depending on the year) Marine Boy or Astroboy or Scooby-Doo. I loved the variety of characters and settings/scenarios in the Looney Tunes stable.

Why is providing a comic book inventory list a no-go for comic collectors as it relates to finding an insurance company? This was mentioned by Richard. I was expecting to hear an inventory list was essential. Surprised to hear that it was a dealbuster (my word) when it came to considering coverage through a particular insurance company.

Great stream. I saw the Ramones playing with Drivin and Cryin at the Fox Theater in Atlanta GA in 1987ish, it is all a blur...and no pictures were taken, which is both good and bad.. But Alice and Chains, also at Fox was the best, mid-90s. Sigh.

Great episode as always fellas! I'm also quite nostalgic for the Warner Brothers cartoon characteres as they were a staple on Saturday mornings. It seems like they are getting lost in the shuffle along with other cartoon characters I grew up with from Hanna Barbera characters like the Flintstones, Yogi Bear and Snagglepuss. Ever try looking for those Hanna Barbera Marvel titles from the 70s? If you like a challenge, try locating those in grade (the earlier Charlton titles are even more difficult). A question for John! You've referred to your past history as a comic book store owner at times and I'm wondering if you would share some of those stories? I understand it was a tough grind at times, but there's probably some really interesting stories there that you can share.

Absolutely love the show fellas! All around great information and cool stuff, always! John, you featured the Silver Star collected edition. There is another collected edition that was put out by TwoMorrows, which I think is out of print, titled the Silver Star Graphite Edition. It is the complete series in Kirby's pencils from the original art. Similarly, you can get a graphite edition of Captain Victory but only the first issue. Keep up the good work gentlemen!

Those of us who read Vinnie Colletta inked stories in the 70s think he’s the worst, and yeah, those quickie ink jobs WERE bad. But via the old romance books, I discovered that was his forte. I actually look for Colletta stories when I find Atlas romance books. And I also discovered that romance books weren’t the only genre Jay Scott Pike worked on; he’s popped up in many of the Atlas westerns I’ve been picking up these past couple months. What’s nice about Marvel Tales 1 is that it reprints the AF 15 Spidey story as it was, hyphenless, since later reprints (70s/80s) always fix the hyphens. And the coloring plates are the same, except the spider on his back has had the color dropped. That spider was actually colored blue in the original AF 15 and corrected to red by ASM 1.

I think it's MORE important to get more women and other minorities onto the screen than it is to be comics-accurate. HOWEVER, what I've been seeing online, which is weird, is people acting like they cannot even UNDERSTAND some fans wanting movies to be more comics-accurate. Like, I don't think it's some sort of foreign concept. It's a matter of weighing priorities, but it's not inconceivable.
@joehenry9546
@joehenry9546 7 ай бұрын
No it’s not more important to get more women or minorities on to the screen. Is it Cool? Sure. But, from a financial or fan standpoint it’s called pandering to an audience that doesn’t support the media. Look at The Marvels for example. All F tiered characters few fans care that much about. Is it cool to have representation? Sure. But, what’s more important is butts in seats. I think the current trend of chasing customers that are non existent has got to stop. Or companies like Disney needs to step up their writing so the average fan is interested as well. Otherwise the comic book movie business is finished.

@@joehenry9546The audiences who fall into diversity groups are much larger than the group of people who are opposed to the characters being diverse. So diversity IS pursuing the larger group. The Marvel's is a result of the pandemic making people more picky about leaving the house and the strike preventing the actors from promoting the movie.
@thundergodd6086
@thundergodd6086 7 ай бұрын
@@glennsimpson_aka_bobbysaccaro Again, hard disagree. The Eternals lasted 19 issues and it's legacy lived on with Marvel with Thor and other books. The reason comic book characters are successful in movies is because the story came first that's more or less accurate, NOT because of minorities or women being portrayed (again, look at Eternals). And this is coming from an OLDER black man from Harlem.
