Hey everybody! Hope you enjoyed this video of hot takes / controversial opinions. They weren't in any kind of ranked order, but I think it'd be fun if someone ranked them from coldest to hottest. Which opinion did you disagree with the most? What about an opinion that you agreed with? Let me know in the comments below!

Gambino is one of very few singers using autotune skillfully, he can pull off a lot of emotions in the song and I think his attention to aesthetics makes him much more likeable and interesting. Still, I respect your opinion, as I personally find some of the artists you put on the pedestal as good or ok.

My hot take: im okay with rock "dying" if it means more bands stop living in the past and start innovating guitar music again.
@baccpaine4072
@baccpaine4072 3 жыл бұрын
I feel like rock can’t necessarily die. Rock is so incredibly diverse and has reached places that are light years away from the stuff coming out since it’s inception. It’s always been a genre that pushes forward and ventures into new territories but it’s probably the genre that is compared the most to its past right next to Hip Hop. Rock doesn’t have a set of rules or criteria that make it rock. People just keep comparing rock to the pre 2000s era so much that they don’t leave any room for genre bending music to become successful. I’m guessing that’s what you meant when you put “Dying” in quotes. Either way I love rock

Well I mean they both were focused on pop, funk, r&b, soul, and rock. Their songs are very danceable and have very strong stage auras. The main difference is the aesthetic with MJ just improving the ones he had while Prince expanded more on styles and production. So yeah, they're comparable for me and Prince is better.

My hottest take: electro swing would be much better received if the genre as a whole focused on more instrumental focused jazzy type songs in favor of the current trend of trying to be a pop subgenre, which has led to repetitive and uninteresting music underneath generally terrible vocals. A lot of modern music is high pitched, and the girls tend to sing them better. However, if a talented singer emerges and she sings low (Amy Winehouse) or "deep", without screaming too much (Lorde), it gets even more attention because it is not the norm for girls. So woman vocalists are pretty much a win-win

Thank you for recognizing how ICONIC Janelle Monáe is! I don’t think I could ever judge who the “superior” musician is, but Janelle is a freakin’ quadruple threat-rapper, singer, dancer, creative. Not to mention her acting abilities and love of storytelling. If there is one thing I could judge comparing her and Beyoncé, it is that I feel (this is just my opinion, please don’t kill me) that Janelle has way more of a spark and creativity in her works.
@qazasdr7014

This is super late, but the fact is, Janelle Monáe is definitely celebrated within the black and queer communities, but cishet whites mostly ignore her. This really sucks, because they are possibly one of the most outspoken artists out there, and her most popular songs are an admittedly great love song, a song comparing twerking to doing yoga, and a feature on a number one song that she sang for maybe six seconds on. The world truly would be a better place if more people listened to her music and heard their message.

@@nwtrent6902 Paul McCartney is a wonderfully talented musician and songwriter. And sure, he was probably better than George at the start, but I would argue that by the Help! record, George was on the same level as Paul (I Need You is an underrated gem), and he had passed them by Sgt. Pepper's (his one song on there, Within You Without You is still my favorite off the album). George has the single best Beatles solo album of any Beatle in All Things Must Pass, and his tracks on Abbey Road (Something and Here Comes The Sun) are consistently ranked in the top of the Beatles best tracks. Also I find George's voice more unique and enjoyable than Paul's (but I'm biased cause my vocal range is much closer to George's than Paul's). @arisanagno0024

Not really I think the reason is that every popular genre has a golden period where it dominates the music industry and is at the peak of its quality for Rock it was the late 60s to early 70s for Rap it was the 90s etc. Once that period is over in order the artists that belong to that genre try to change the sound in an attempt to keep the public’s interest. That happens every 10-15 years and each time the quality of the music drops significantly. Because of that what you call old heads, who are people that have experienced the genre at its zenith, stop listening to this type of music so its popularity marginally decreases and then a new genre comes in to take its place. That’s how a genre dies
@arisanagno0024
@arisanagno0024 3 жыл бұрын
@enid rap wasn’t mainstream in the 90’s nor was rock in the 60’s they were in the late seventies and 2010s respectively. And regarding the refusing to expand their taste statement speaking from personal experience when you’re used to fine dining it is rare that you can find McDonald’s tasteful same with music once you’ve listened to a certain genre at its peak you can’t enjoy it as it slowly decays. Of course to agree with that you’d also have to agree on which the golden era of each genre is cause it is irrefutable that there is a climax quality wise

Strongly disagree with Prince > MJ. MJ was far more ahead of his time with his top notch, timeless production, fashion statements and music videos. @@SR-zv5ue I don't know, as a woman, it's pretty frustrating to see Beyonce be "the standard" when it's a tale as old as time that a great singer doesn't equal great artistry or great songs. Of course Beyonce has bangers but so does pretty much every other pop girl of the last 20 years, and Janelle Monae is a great *artist*, not just a great singer. In this video he even does the same thing by saying Prince is a better artist than Michael Jackson, it's not about pitting women against each other, he also compares male artists, AND Beyonce is a very popular topic of discussion BECAUSE she's so huge. I think it's fair to bring her up. Especially since her fans are so weirdly devoted, to like, a cult-like level on the internet and can't stand anyone having the opinion that another artist is greater at something or someone having a different "greatest singer ever". Nobody should be crucified for saying she's overrated.

@@ferencssalvoski3721 There are thousands better than the goats in any industry that have just remained undiscovered that doesn’t mean we don’t praise what’s the best. You don’t see people tearing Michael Jackson down even though he also heavily burrowed from other artists. You don’t see the same with Taylor Swfit either. People have a problem when it’s Beyonce. Beyoncé is one of the best performers out there and is arguably the best of this generation, yet to be usurped. She’s the whole package. Performers usually are terrible singers and vocalists are usually not that great of performers, she does both, it’s a rarity and the fact that she has put out music consistently that’s popular and is critically acclaimed since the 90s is something that literally no artist today has done. All artists that are more popular than her now premiered in the social media age and when autotune was at its heights, and any artist that debuted in the late 90s has not been consistent.

Like there was a lot of wierd white privledge stuff with him in his past. He was the worst songwriter in the Beatles for sure, but as a drummer he's criminally underrated. I think people don't see him as a stereotypical classic rock drum hero like John Bonham or Ginger Baker because he wasnt self indulgent (at least as a drummer). I love drummers who show off their chops as much as the next guy, but that type of thing just wouldn't work for the Beatles cus they were a pop band. Ringo's drumming serves those songs perfectly. Prog is like a painting and pop is like a puzzle. Prog musicians have the liberty to splatter paint wherever and however much they want, if a pop musician tries to do that, it'll make the puzzle pieces all wonky and they wont fit right.
