Yep. One TV. Family together. Shared values. Bonding. Family time. Shows with values. Can't imagine growing up and NOT having experienced entertainment that belonged to my parents: Sid Caesar, Milton Berle, Bob Hope...and the "Road" pictures, Red Skelton, Jack E. Leonard, Jack Benny, Jack Paar, Steve Allen, and all those great 'family' shows, too numerous to mention. Ours were The Rifleman and Bonanza.

My old man was of that generation. He died when he was 42 and I was 16, about the same ages as Carl Betz and Paul Petersen here. So much I never got to tell him or ask him. We never got to drink a beer or argue as men do. He never met my wife or played with this grandchildren. I never got to say goodbye. So if your dad is still alive, why not give him a call... just say "Hey pop..." It will mean the world to him.

I can definitely relate. He died at 50, I, too was 16. Last time I saw him I was 14. His dream was for us to have a beer together and be more like pals than father - son. Life throws you curves sometimes. But God has been good to me.

I lost my dad in 1998 and I play this song on fathers day every year in tribute to him. I still remember watching the original episode when it was shown. This was a favorite show of mine when I was growing up in the 50's and 60's. It still makes me tear up when I play this episode after all these years. This is by far the best song about fathers.

My ex was Paul's cousin, and so, while we were dating he asked me if I'd like to meet him! After I came to, I grabbed his shirt collar and told him he better not be teasing me. Turns out he wasn't. We went to his home on Mulholland drive and had dinner with him and his family. He came in the door not long after we arrived and gave a shout out to his mom, "Mom, I'm home!" JUST LIKE on the Donna Reed show!!!!! He was exactly like he was on the program! I was star struck for weeks afterward! He really is a nice guy.

I don't know what was going on in their lives, but I don't think Paul Peterson is only acting at the end of the song. It's too real. he is obviously feeling great emotion, which is what makes this a truly memorable clip. I'd love to hear an interview with him about making this episode.

my dad has been gone for almost 30 years and I still miss him, He was my hero. He only had one picture in his wallet and that was of me and him. He would love to give big bear hugs to everyone. I would give anything to have just 5 more minutes with him as near the end he developed alzhiemers and he didn't know who most of us were. He kept on ,looking for his mother who died in 1969 he died in 1993 . He never got to see any of his grandchildren get married . He would have loved all of them

This song has always had special meaning to me. I remember for one Father’s Day when I was young, my sister and I practiced for like a month to sing this to him. Probably was one of the best Father’s Day’s I remember. Thank you, Paul Petersen, for singing this song. So that I could have a memory I will never forget.

My heart and prayers go out to you. My dad passed away in 2000 and I miss him still as much as that very night. We're blessed with the best - and only one dad. My condolances to all of your family. Hugs across the miles to you.

Saw the episode in rerun last week. It was a wonderful ♥-warming moment when Alex thought Jeff was mad at him but then heard him sing this beautiful song. ☺

My dad has been has been gone since 1980. I did not call him dad. He would have have hated that. My sister and I both called him "Pa" I love them both as much as life itself. My sister passed away in 2004. I am sure she she feels the same way I do now, even though she's gone too. Happy Father's Day, Pa! God bless you "Sis" and all the Dads on this very special day. My "Pa" and I really hope every other Dad is as loved as all the other Fathers today!!

Mine too, but from envy, as I never had a Dad. He walked out of my family's lives with a suitcase in one hand and a bottle of booze in the other, while I was still a small baby. I have gone through my life with this 'Daddy' sized hole in my soul. Shit happens, I guess.
