Not arguing with the comment about Venice, but broadly speaking most Jews in Italy are Sephardic. Most Sephardim did not segregate themselves from non-Jews unless there was a specific reason. My general impression is that Sephardim didn't object as much to mixed marriages as long as the kids were raised Jewish. Also possible is that some of your Sephardic ancestors converted to christianity at some point.

On a more serious note the English are Germanic as well, even the Normans were originally Danes, so the overlap could simply be that the Dna is too similar to differentiate.
