Animal Watch

Күн бұрын

Today is the hardest episode that I have ever had to make for Animal Watch. Us dog parents often are faced with the traumatic decision of helping to end our beloved dog's life when they become horrendously sick. It's a horrific situation to be in, where you can feel guilt and hopelessness. I felt everything. Not only was Kyoshi the 'Dog of my Life', a dog that probably will be the most loved one in my entire life, but she was dying painfully of incurable cancer, so after 6 months of chemotherapy and other treatments, she started to feel real pain and I was put in that incredibly upsetting situation of having to make the decision on euthanasia. I tried everything and anything to save her and left putting her down right to the last moment, when her body gave up. This was to make sure that my decision was correct.
This episode also celebrates Kyoshi's life and why she was an amazing dog who touched many people's lives. It includes a gallery of artwork sent in by some of the best pet artists in the world who were moved by her plight. It also includes a very moving part where Kyoshi's brother Tuskyn is also dying of a similar cancer.
Please understand that you are not alone if you are currently going through this and that I really feel for you.

Somehow, dogs are able to stand closer to our hooman heart, closer and more than any other being.. Not all of us, but many are capable of respecting pain beyond fur and selfishness. Sometimes only these little fellas can relax us from grief and suffering, one day only we are able to relieve them from the dark reality we all must be part of. Please dont be selfish on them.. Seeing Kyoshi as the little whelp she once was, really is heart breaking.. Poor thing

When my Katey died, my soul died. She was the last of my wolf pack and though I loved them all so much , there is always one that has is just a little more special. Now I have to move on, and being dx-ed myself with an incurable disease, I know a pup is not an option anymore. I would love to welcome an older rescue wolfdog in my life again, just to give back the joy and security to another lost soul. Thank you for posting this video.

Could not hold my tears back watching this, we lost one of our precious girls last year, a rhodesian ridgeback called Indi, she was 12 years old and had cancer. I have just my beloved black Labrador now, she means the world to me and we have this extremely close bond. Sometimes I have nightmares of losing her and I can't bare it. She is just 5, but I don't actually know how I'm going to cope without her when that time comes. it's unbearable to think about. I really am so sorry for your loss, what a beautiful and loved life she had

But I can only imagine sweet Anneka's pain and suffering through all this. I believe that kind of love is the greatest thing that exists on this earth. Nothing else even comes close really. I'm sorry for her loss. To anyone who has dogs with cancer please do not put them through the treatment. I have been on the other end of that as a vet assistant. They aren't comfortable, they cry, are stuck in a cold kennel and it drains their spirit. It just isn't humane imo. We need to do what's best for them and put them first. Let them enjoy their life as much as possible. Medical marijuana and cbd can keep them comfortable I've used it for my babies till I knew it was their time. We need to not be selfish and do everything to keep them. We need to give them everything so they can go peacefully.

I am also sorry for your loss and I am sure, everyone here can feel your pain and definatly did shed a tear, but... I agree. I dont know how to put this right now, but I gave an oath to all my furry friends that I would not let them suffer for to long by saying it out loud and looking them in the eyes. Animals often suffer silently, at least all of my dogs did and I wont even start with how silently cats would stand their pain... so, with all my love and empathy I'll have to say to all of you "please dont wait to long!!! Your best friend deserves better, even if our human family members often are not allowed such an act of humanity". Take care and stay strong!

It's heartbreaking to read about the experiences you've witnessed, but it's important to keep in mind that not all cancers are the same, not all treatments are the same and not all dogs are the same. My baby had lymphoma and the treatments helped immensely and bought me 11 more months with him. We went on walks, played with toys, he was able to jump on the bed on his own. When he had intravenous treatment I sat next to him, he didn't seem to be in pain or be more uncomfortable than he normally was when we went to the vet for his annual vaccine (he hated vets). It's true that once the cancer developed resistance to the initial treatment, he had to switch to a stronger one that caused side effects, usually related to diarrhea / vomiting / loss of appetite, and his immunity system weakened from the cancer treatments, but every time he had a side effect, I took him back to the vet and he got better and started playing and eating again. Most sick animals (and people) have ups and downs, I would never forgive myself if I put down a dog without giving him treatment and giving him a chance to recover.

I agree, the chemo and radiation just enrich the vets and do more harm and doesnt cure cancer. I believe cancer is caused by a genetic defect that causes the immune system to fail to recognise and destroy the cancer at it's earliest stage. Chemo and radiation themselves cause cancer and damage and they don't fix the root CAUSE that started the cancer in the first place. So many times I read about someone in "remission" and then the cancer comes back even worse than before. A genetic flaw explains how a baby or child can have cancer they tell us takes 30-40 years exposure to chemicals etc to develop. The fact Two sibling dogs both had cancer the same time and passed within a short time of each other also points to a genetic flaw causing it. Some breeds like Bernese Mtn Dogs have a proven inherited cancer that can affect entire litters- systemic and malignant histiocytosis of the Bernese Mtn Dog- it even has a name in the veterinary journals after the studies showed it was a genetic cancer.

I thought everything was fine they returned him after a week but the vets screwed up on meds and that prevented him from peeing and drinking water so I took him to another vet 2 days later and I’m so blessed that I did he whent in 5 more surgery’s over the next 2 weeks I couldn’t give up on him. they didn’t know why he wasn’t peeing they thought it was to late that his bladder was destroyed that there was no recovering from that damage but I couldn’t give up on him. I told them to put him on anti inflammatorys (which they would t normally do because his kidney levels were high from the urine backup) but I told them this is the last chance I’m running out of money and I don’t want to give up on him for something that is normally easily fixed by diet so they agreed I aslo asked them can they teach me and my bf how to palpate him so we can take him home and hope all he needed was time to heal and they agreed. They said it’s a risk but like I told them this is our last shot if it doesn’t work I’ll have to put him down. We took him home and over the next month we gave him his meds and palpated him 5 times a day and to the vets and our surprise he started peeing again by himself we still had to assist him over the next 2 weeks but then he completely healed and started going on his own the vet said it was a miracle and that because of our determination and requests they have started implementing The things we did towards other cats that they see. It’s been almost a year since that tragic and stressful month and a half . It was a constant battle of thoughts of “I don’t want to put him down because mommy ran out of money but I’m running out of money what do I do” I’m just so grateful the second vet office listened to me and took a risk they wouldn’t normally do because we all understood we had one more shot at fixing him or I would have had to put him down. I wouldn’t normally spend the money I did for a cat but what he had was caused by me .. I should have seen the symptoms months before the strong urine smell and the stress because that’s what caused it the stress so I knew it could be fixed easily but because the first vet messed up it caused the muscles in his bladder to rip and tare but we didn’t know that until after he started to pee again. I never want to go through that again! But unfortunately my dog is getting up there in age so I know I’m going to be faced with should I put my beloved pet down or fight. It’s a horrible experience and sometimes the stress pays off like it did my cat but other times it doesn’t like your dog and it’s so hard to know when it’s time to let go. I begged for the same thing if you have to take him let it be peacefully in their sleep. But that luxury doesn’t always come. Im so sorry for your dog! But I’m also blessed that she’s no longer in pain and that I know she’s watching you, and that she will send you another puppy to look after you as she did :)

Lost my choc lab at 4 to cancer , it was horrendous, in time I got a wee border terrier that I had to 9 when he got struck by a car , now it’s wee Tyson the rescue staffie who’s probably 13 now but still an active wee dog , hopefully a while before I do that last journey , they bring so much joy but when that heartbreaking time comes , it’s losing a family member , not just a pet

I am so sorry for your loss. It is very difficult to loose a loved family member, and your best friend. Kyoshi lived a wonderful life may she Rest In Peace. At least you were able to bring yourself to realize that it was her time, and were there to help her with a peaceful good bye. Kyoshi sounds like a wonderful dog, she will be missed

The grief we feel for these special dogs is commensurate with the love we share with them. The loss of a dog soul mate is absolutely devastating. We cherish the memories, but the grief is terrible. Dearest condolences.

She looks like my companion Holly. I raised her since she was 3 wks old and now she is 8 yrs. I value every single minute and moment with her knowing how much joy she brings me through some tough times. She is GSD/Lab mix and is an amazing girl. I really wouldn't know how to handle losing her and I'm deeply sorry for your loss. RIP Kyoshi🐾❤

Could not watch this without multiple crying breaks. Having followed your channel for years and seeing Kyoshi in many videos as viewer I definitely felt a connection to Kyoshi as with all your beautiful dogs so when you first posted she passed I felt so much sadness for the world and you. R.I.P. Kyoshi. Both my parents grew up with dogs but my mom was absolutely traumatised when her beloved dog Rani passed away in her childhood, as a result my mom absolutely refused to get us any pets thinking that trauma is too much for children eventhough we love dogs. Sigh. I can kind of understand her illogical reasons reasons now having watched this.

Very sorry for your loss Anneka, I know how hard this is to decide and go through...lost my first dog as an adult four and a half years ago, a beautiful 105 pound black lab, German shepherd mix who was my gentile giant. She was only Seven and a half. A Chocolate lab puppy I got a few months before she passed helped me get through it. What a beautiful tribute to your baby... You made this tough old soldier cry a bit...
