As a pool pro and a pool owner here are my tips. #1 - Get rid of the DE Filters, they are a pain and cost a lot to maintain. Switch to Cartridge filter. #2 - You have a Salt Pool so you shouldn’t have to shock the pool, just turn your salt cells to Super Chlorinate for a few days. Once a week add some Oxidizing Shock (for your pool a few pounds a week). #3 - Your water level is too low so your probably sucking air into your pump through the skimmer. #4 - Get rid of those As Seen on TV skimmers. #5 - your pump is too small for your pool, it’s max GPM is 120 I think, you have around 75,000 gallons so 10-12 hours a day at full speed will turn the pool over once and during 90* weather you wanted to turn it over a couple times. #6 - You will Need Muriatic Acid, Sodium Bicarbonate mainly for your pool since it’s Salt. For FYI - every 40lb bag of salt will raise your salt content around 60 PPM, with Hayward Salt Cells you need to be around 3200ppm, when you open the control box the I stand reading will be the first thing you see. Good Luck - pools aren’t that bad once you understand them.

I think your main priority at the moment is to focus on cleaning up the landscaping. You need to rake and bag all the dead foliage to help keep it from blowing into the pool. I would then recommend look at putting pea gravel along the concrete as a natural buffer as well. We ended up doing that around ours and it cut down on cleaning a ton.

I'd recommend you to overfill the pool before you do a cleaning and flushing water down to waste. Then when you do, the pool will end up with the correct amount of water in it after. Salt pools do need a lot of salt to fill them when starting from empty. Even though it sounds like a lot it is nowhere near the amount of salt in the sea and you cant taste it. You wont need much each week to keep it at the correct level. Biggest expense on salt systems is replacing the "salt cell" which converts the salt to chlorine. The metal plates inside can get clogged with hard water deposits and stop working. You can keep them in good working order by removing them once in a while, plugging one end up and filling them with acid till it dissolves the build up. (Only on plastic case salt cells) I'd say, excluding replacing the chlorine generator equipment, a salt system has the least day to day running cost of any other solution. Avoid liquid chlorine or peroxide dosing systems on a pool this size you'll get through so much chemical. Your pump is most likely sucking air through the skimmers. The best baskets to use in the skimmers have a floating ring which will adjust themselves to the water level in your pool which will reduce turbulence and air getting sucked in. The pumps bearings and water seals are water cooled/ lubricated. If the pump is running with a lot of air in, these seals can burn out in literally only hours. Also on your vid there is a non return valve just before your pump, It looks like its seals have failed if it is hard to prime the pump. Try setting the filter valves to closed (with the pump off) before opening the pump lid. It'll stop water being syphoned into the pool out of the pump while the lid is off. Please get rid of the DE filters entirely, go for a sand filter. The media inside literally wont need changing for years and super easy for the home DIYer wanting fast easy results with minimal work. I'd avoid cartridge filters for the main pool but may be possible with the small water volume on the hot tub. (I'd just go sand filters all round) Get a cover for the pool it will really cut down on that algae growth caused by the sun and you can brush all the leaves into a corner and removing before pulling a cover off the pool. Sunlight breaks down chlorine too so you want to keep it out as much as possible. Hardest thing to do as a DIY pool owner is learn pool chemistry, get a book on it and a decent digital/ photometer pool test kit. It is well worth knowing exactly what your pool water is doing and helps diagnose water quality issues (This is a big part of what you pay a pool service guy to do). Biggest thing to take away from this, is that pools are way more complicated and expensive to run than most people ever realise. Every single one is very different in terms of water chemistry. If you don't have the time to keep a constant eye on it day in day out then get someone to keep on it for you. Pools can go from clear to green in literally 24 hours. Test your pools water daily!!!! You may want to consider building a cover over the pool. I have family friends in Florida who basically built a sunroom around thier pool. I imagine it will be expensive, but may be better for the long run.

The best pool maintenance my neighbor did was filling it with dirt. He's old and has small grandchildren that he didn't want near the pool for fear of drowning. Now he has a beautiful back yard that he enjoys taking care of and the kids can run amok back there. It was a nie pool but upkeep was killing him faster than father time.

Tavarish, you might see what other similar size pool owners in your area are doing regarding maintinence and yearly expense. After your pool shock is done you might consider a pool cover to keep leaves, bugs, and critters from dirtying up your pool. Cleaning the pump/filter area of all the trash should be done as soon as you can. It would make it easier to spot a problem/leak with a cleaned pump area. As for your spa you might consider screening-in the spa with retractable screens/curtains to keep critters, bugs, and birds away from it when it is not in use. With those kind of expenses for a pool, it might be wiser/cheaper to turn the area into a tennis court :)

Fellow Florida pool owner here. $5000 to "clean this up" is highway robbery and so is $1200 a month to clean it. This is a salt pool (which is still a chlorine pool) so once you get the salt, and settings dialed in, they are very low maintenance, especially with that drop in robot. I'd be happy to walk you through the steps to cleaning this up correctly.

as a former pool owner, the amount of work is fun especially when you can use it for 3 months out of the year in Michigan. Basically get it ready, swim in it 5 times, spend 2 grand in 3 months and then prep it for winter.

I’ve been maintaining my pool for many years. Once it’s clean and balanced, a salt water pool really isn’t that much work. The robot will do most of the work for you so you just need to keep the skimmers cleaned. DO NOT let your pool motors cavitate or lose prime, they need water flow to keep cool and you will burn them up. Check the o-rings on the lids and be sure all the skimmers are clear and the water level is at least 2” above the skimmer entrance. The Hayward equipment is good and while DE filters do require periodic cleaning or backwashing, nothing will clean the water as good as a DE filter. The monthly quote seems very high to me. Around my area in SoCal, $120.00. - $200.00 a month for a “normal” sized residential pool once a week. $1200.00 seems excessive. I would check with some of your neighbors and get some referrals. Freddy, welcome to pool ownership! I used to work at a pool store so I understand your pain. Thankfully, it looks like the bones of your pool are in good shape and you have Hayward equipment, which is easy to find parts for and maintain. Since your pool is salt, you'll want to check your salt levels each week, along with testing for chlorine, metals and phosphates, which can cause algea. Simple test strips work great and are easy to use. Salt is the most important one because if the level is too low, your cells will not generate chlorine and your pool will not be sanitized. Since you have three cells, I'm guessing that the pool is around 60k-90k gallons, which is HUGE! Algae will be your biggest problem to deal with, simply because of all the vegetation surrounding the pool. Every leaf that falls in has the potential to start an algae bloom, so do your best to keep the pool clean and sanitized to fight it. Cleaning and backwashing your filters and swapping out DE, or switching to Cellulose Fiber may also help. A pool cover is a great idea if you decide to close your pool for the winder. You could also try using a product called No Mor Problems to boost your weekly shock and prevent/kill algae, it works wonders! Lastly, DO NOT leave your Tigershark in the pool when it is not actively cleaning or within four hours of adding shock. High chlorine levels absolutely destroy the insides and the Tigersharks are not easy to work on or find parts for. We attempted to fix a few when I worked at the pool store, but always ran into problems. We could always tell who left their cleaner in the pool 24/7 by the brittleness of the plastics on the machine. Hope this helps!

Hi Tavarish, first of all congratulations on the new house, it is a lot of square feet to keep up with, so I wish you good luck on your new purchase, my only advice is make sure any changes you make to the property will be good for potential buyers if you ever decide to sell, for example your huge pool that you talked about putting a logo on the pool surface would only be unique to your tastes, this could be a deal breaker for a potential buyer, make sure the water level in the pool is adequately above the skimmers, otherwise they will suck air and you could damage your pumps, also when you get the water level at adequate levels in the skimmers, there should be a purge valve on the top of the filter, just open the valve and the purge the air until you get water spirting out,..get a good pool tech to go over your system and be there when he is servicing the system so he can teach you some self maintenance tips, ie learn your system it will save you money, also get an artificial OWL (usually around 2 feet tall)that looks life like and post him in your outdoor kitchen somewhere by the hot tub, the critters don't like owls, I suspect you have a racoon or armadillo, just be aware that pool equipment is super marked up, like Mclaren parts, keep an eye on your pool level, most times water loss is due to evaporation and in Florida it is guaranted, I doubt you have a leak in the piping, Good Luck, I will keep watching your feed as I enjoy your Content, Good Luck Paul

A nice automatic pool cover would be my first priority. Great project :)

Since your pool is old, PLEASE inspect it to make sure that the pool doesn't have a potentially dangerous and DEADLY main drain in it. Flat main drains and especially small ones can easily cause someone to become pinned down to the bottom of the pool floor. These drains exert hundreds of pounds of pressure and make it impossible to lift someone off of them. Additionally, your hot tub can also have a dangerous drain. I would look up a few pictures of what these drains are like and also ask your pool service. Edit: I think this is also called "delta P"

This brings back so many bad memories of trying to maintain my pool in our last home. Your comment, "it is so much more expensive than you had thought" is so true. Pools are never ending money pits. I will never own another. Hope this all works out for you and your family. Hopefully you all will get a lot of use out of it and make it all worth it.

You can always do an engine swap on the pool filter. Maybe an LS or something?

That plant is called Plumeria, it gives a Hawaiian look around pools and it's in the wrong place. They're more of a 50/50 plant when it comes to sun and shade. The bloom is 5 petals and looks nice when taken care of properly 😉

We had a chlorine pool in WI, we took care of it ourselves, shocked it every summer after the freeze, and used test strips to keep it in line. These salt pools seem more complicated than it needs to be. We used our garden hose connected to the house to top it off, that fire hydrant of a fill would have been nice to have lmao.

For moscitoes remove all bushes and sutch, clear the forest for afew feet around the house, firstly makes it more open too. Rense the concrete with a preshurewasher, build a simple small shed over that pump setup.

Fill the pool so that the skimmers are always half full, any less and you'll start sucking air. Your next stop should be the troublefreepool forum, their pool math calculator will tell you exactly what your pool needs - the first of which is a decent test kit. Once you have your levels correct, maintenance is a breeze. You do NOT need to spend 1200 a month on it, lol. It's a lot easier to take care of a pool once you understand how to balance it, especially if you're using a salt generator. It's really not that hard.

Besides all the issues, this is a beautiful pool in a beautiful garden next to a beautiful house, I love it. Well deserved, Tavarish!

I'm not an expert but I'm a DIY type person and I grew up around pools and I've rehabbed a few swamps... When we moved into places with neglected pools - our routine was always the same. Drain ALL water. Scrub and bleach everything. Get the professionals out to service the pumps and filters. Fix any leaks. Clean up the yard to make sure you're not dumping leaves or dirt into the pool. Clean everything again - a pressure washer is your friend. Then start over with fresh water and chemicals until you get the water balance right. Use an ozone generator in your pump system so that all the circulated water is getting ozone exposed and it will save you a TON of future grief, and have (and use) a pool cover if you're going to go more than a few days without using the pool. A cleaning robot and skimmer should be part of your ongoing maintenance plan. Pools are expensive to maintain - especially if you need to infuence the temperature to make them usable. For anyone who can clean a kitchen - you can do most of the labour yourself. It's only really servicing the mechanical and electrical equipment, and sometimes fixing leaks that's more skilled than gross untill it's time to refill and get the balance right. And normally the guys at the pool shop who sell you the salt or chemicals can do tests for almost nothing or for free, and tell you what to buy to get the water quality sorted.

Tavarish, The 8 foot spec on your pump refers to the maximum lift to self prime. Your pool water level is only a foot or two down from the pumps. Within reason, it's not how long the feed tubing is, it's the vertical sucking ability of the pump when it's dry. Adding an efficient, lower power pump that can run the skimmers continuously would likely help keep the algae down. That pool needs the plants cut way back and some type of cover installed.

You should definitely look at getting a solar cover. It will keep mosquitoes and debris off the pool when not in use, and keep heat in at night. They are also easy to reel in and out for large pools.

I would Sort out the landscaping around the pool. then look at lighting for the pool area as this transform the out side area. Love the fact you are showing your house build on here as well as your car builds.

Been working with pools for just over 20 yrs now in southern u.k 1st thing,get rid of DE filters and stick in a sand filter (correctly matched to the ammount of water you got) check the pump you got and make sure that is matched to your pool and filter,run every thing 24hrs a day untill you get clear water(the longer everything is running the quicker you will speed this process up ) Turn off the salt cells for a bit and forget about it untill you got your water balance sorted out.(personally am not a fan of salt water chlorination) Once you sorted out your filtration,move on to water balance. Now do a full water test,P.H Total alkalinity Calcium Hardness Phosphates and so on Get a base reading and idea on what you have there,even go as far as testing your source water so you know what you are putting in your pool. Once you happy with your basic water chemistry,shock it with liquid chlorine and maintain a high chlorine lvl, back wash the dead crap from the filters as and when required not forgetting to rinse the filters afterwards(this will be with your nice new shiny multiport valve). Maintain a correct PH,as peole have said here pool ownership/water balance is a very steep learning curve,but once you master the basics you should be able to make that pool sparkle like a glass of tap water (see Flocculant/Aluminium sulfate) for sparkling water Good Luck

As the owner of an E36 M3 and an old pool, I can tell you the E36 is BY FAR the least needy. That wire sticking out of the ground by your slide is a bonding wire. Don't remove it unless you can verify it's not connected, but I seriously doubt that. You can clean your pipes with a drain cleaning bladder. You just connect it to a garden hose and feed the hose into the pipe you are trying to blow out. Make sure your pump lid is on fully or it can suck in air. The o-ring on the lid should be lubed to ensure you can get it on all the way. Somebody else mentioned it, but those skim-around baskets can suck in air.

Just a small FYI, if your water level is low in the pool, the skimmers are what is sucking the air into the pump. Raise the water to the proper level and no air should hit the pumps unless there is a leak in the lines.

Check the pump cover for your air leak (Where you were adding water to prime)... The gasket could be bad or the cover could be cracked... It was a common problem for me. Also... Pool maintenance guys like to run the pumps a long time. They recommended full speed for me running 8 hours, but I was able to maintain a crystal clear pool. Good luck!

Just like a boat, the two happiest days of pool ownership are buying the house with a pool, and the day you sell the house with a pool. Oh boy, that looks like fun.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this already Freddy but that plant you cut on - when they bloom it's the flower Hawaiian Lai's are made of- super fragrant. Cauterize it when you cut the end and the end you removed will grow when you stick it in the ground. You could have a "Lai" forest...

Love your videos and very excited to see how the P1 comes out First off be-careful with these pool guys/companies I've been doing pool leak detection with Leakxperts for the last 5 years and have seen all kinds of pools and systems. I can tell you once you understand your system its very easy to understand your pool. Wish I was local to you (Florida) Id come by and show you how everything works and what can be better. That waterfall design has got to go, that design has water going everywhere and will cause your pool to lose water. Don't waste your money on that hayward vac those things break all the time. Start moving everything over to Jandy Pool products That pump area can also be simplified as well + add an automation system so you don't have to go back there and can control everything from your phone, device inside the house or by the pool

As far as the rodents go you need to get a large bucket of Jaguar Bait Chunx. It is professional grade stuff. Can use in rat bait stations all around your property. If left accessible then raccoons, opossums and skunks will eat too. Rats can quickly do thousands of dollars damage so regulary check the bait stations as they get empty fast.

Congrats on the new house Tavarish! Those plants are Hawaiian plumeria which have really nice flowers, definitely let them grow back! Also definitely consider a covered roof for the pool would solve most of your problems and would make for some awesome videos, it could also double as a greenhouse for future garden projects!

I suspect that your air is coming from those vortex skimmer traps. When you run the pump and bypass the filter you drag more water through the system. I bet if you look at the skimmer you will see it pulling in air. Also look into getting a suction side pool cleaner, Kreepy Krawley or a BArracuda. Good luck!

I suggest you reduce the size of this pool by adding a 20x40 foot island in the middle with a nice covered seating area with a big gas firepit and a couple of foot bridges for access. Then adjust the jets to turn the rest into a very lazy river so you can get in a floating chair and just drift around the loop all afternoon.

As a fellow Floridian, I highly recommended getting a pool cage. It not only prevents animals access to your pool and deck, but also prevents leaves and other debris from getting into the pool.

"But I'm not gonna check that, cuz I don't need that kind of negativity in my life." Laughed out loud at that one. :⁠-⁠)

If you have old CD's or you can get some reflective wind chime spinners to put up that will spook off the birds from pooping. The key is they need to spin and reflect. I used some fishing line and hooked up to a porch eve to keep the birds from making a mess on my bbq.

Love this stuff. I have had pools most of my life and had to recover my fixer-upper in Florida. Giant pain. You need to start small - focus just on the pool. Looks like you are getting it stabilized. Once you have that recovering, no air leaks, no clogs, and clearing up, you can focus on the spa. For the spa, you have a leak in the lines, I bet you have a leak in the drains at the bottom. This is going to be tough but I think they can use something like a dye to find the leak. Look for soggy spots. And for a routine, you need either a service, a cage, or have someone skim the leaves every day. You have those damn southern oaks and they get into everything. So do it first thing with a cup of coffee. Otherwise hire a guy and get a cage. I know they are big bucks. You have a huge house and in Florida, you will have big costs. Sorry man.

Welcome to the homes with pool club (HWPC) I joined this club about 4 years ago because the little woman wanted a pool. She has been in the pool 4 times in 4 years so there is that. I do use the pool almost daily in the summer but that is because I want my moneys worth. Speaking of money, you are, and will, discover the pool is a money pit. My pool is about 15 years old and as such everything is either in need of repair/replacement or will soon need it. I've realized that pools are much like boats. Your happiest times are when you buy the house with the pool and then again when you sell the house with the pool. Check fittings and valves in front of the pump. Air going in to pool is typically from air being drawn in to the pump from small leaks

Check orings on those covers, that you opened to add water - If they are broke/cracked, it will be full of air

A good powerful leaf blower would be a great tool to have. get the leaves and debris away from everything to start with then they can be mowed, mulched or collected from there.

Little tip, just because the vacuum is expensive doesn’t mean it’s the best. The tiger sharks are notorious for breaking and cost a lot to repair. The base model Polaris vacuum is the best you can use because they last a long time and are easy to maintain. Also with your salt system, you will probably go through salt cells every 3-4 years due to living in a high heat climate and having a lot of gallons.

That hcp3000 pump is a good pump. We use them alot for hoa pools and they work good. Just keep the cover closed because the screen will go bad

Pretty sure the hot tub draining is from a valve close to the pump and all of that that allows it to drain back when its off. Not an actual leak. And I would suggest switching the pool drain covers to VGB compliant covers. They prevent entrapment and drowning.

I been watching Tavarish for a long time now. I never saw any car he owned that I said Thats my dream car. I would watch his channel because of him and how he presents his projects, how he tackles his problems and finally how he manages to do his own stuff. Freddy, get a nice pool cover or just install some posts around it, connect them with braided steel lines and put a cover on that. This could actually help you get less debris and stuff in it. Considering that it's not a small pool, I'd say the posts would not be a bad idea.

Freddie being a pool technician here in California, I’ve worked on pools as big as yours and I think you’re getting shafted pretty hard with the pricing! I would understand the big clean up costing a bit but that monthly service sounds rough!! Once established that pool should be a breeze to clean! Also if you have a DGE filter I’d look to swap it out for a cartridge filter! Easier and cheaper to maintain. Also your current filters might be undersized for the fallo age of your pool boy sure, I couldn’t really tell or identify them from the video!

Get one of those fake owl statues. Apparently they can be pretty fancy. Besides the rotating head some even make hoot sounds when they sense motion!

Here is a easy new cool idea to keep the animals out in a safe effective way. Build some motion sensor water guns/sprinklers. Could add some some lasers to them just for fun to see where its about to shoot and a camera to see the invaders get wet.

It's clear, you should fill in the pool and have a nice back yard.

I know next to nothing about pools but I would think installing mounting points and getting a great big cover would help reduce all the things that detract from the state of it once you get it up to a standard. Less debris for the skimmers to deal with, less rain to throw off your chemistry, less evaporative losses to risk losing prime on your pumps.

Disney has mosquitos figured out in FL. You may want to look into their methods of preventative control

I would recommend a fence around the area sor the animals. I've been in the pool business for seven years, I would recommend also a sand filter instead of what you currently have. You can go to the pool store and get your chems tested for free, and buy chems

Cleanup and price per month is accurate Its priced average I'd say. That pool is like 20x5meters huge size. For example on big mansions in Socal the cost of maintenance is around 6-8k dollars a month for 1. Gardening 2. electronics 3. pool &water supply That doesn't include dusting up and window cleaning/ house work etc. This is on a ~ 15M $ mansion in L.A with a big pool and jacuzzi.
