In this episode of Building My Dream Shop, we encounter the toughest metal valley roofing details we have had to install yet, and they all have to do with the fact I made my design harder than it needed to be. The four metal roofing valley's we have all contain these tricky and tough details, so hopefully this video helps someone if ever they encounter something similar. I always enjoy a good metal flashing challenge and this one didn't disappoint.

I love seeing your fancy tools but I like when you cover the budget/DIY way to do it. I think it would been a neat project for a DIYer to put a roof like this on a shed. I'm definitely going to consider it.

I just installed a cable rail system on my home staircase. the crimping tool cost $200. While pricey for a one off job, I believe the tool will no doubt do 10 full installations before needing replacement dies and o-rings, therefore it will cost me $20 a project. I have 4 staircases and 2 decks to complete, therefore bang per buck is very good. Purchasing all the parts and tools cost me a little more than hiring a guy to do a single installation. But I can now install cable rail systems. And I can work at my leisure when funds are available for the pieces to replace the next staircase.

if it were a TV show they would have producers that would require them to fight with each other and talk shit behind the others back when one is not around. you-tube channels are so much nicer to watch because they generally get along and do things right, versus TV productions that think they need drama and tension between everyone to get ratings. i choose calm professionalism over chaos any day.

Love the series and i find it quite funny that you do the air gap as you say its optional, in Sweden thats not optional, here we use what would be about 1x1½ inch lath to build up the air gap. On top on that we would use another lath on top of that and then attach the metal roof to it.

Watch all your video, always referencing wildlife controllers to you videos as metal bending is a large part of what we do to close up gaps for bats, mice, and raccoons. The wedge area you been working on the last two video is likely the most common area for bats, squirrels and raccoons enter attic and soffit spaces.

Question could you not theoretically bend a W valley to have the detail for your panels to tie into that you spent so much time adding? Seems like it would just be a little more material and 4 additional bends on the brake?

Good metal roof contractors are not very common in my area, the finessing of all the details is what makes it impossible to get a good job from a contractor on a project like this to the average customer, you have to make it right because it's yours and that's what you do, but to get a stranger to care is unlikely, for this reason although i wanted metal on my shop roof i am now going back with shingles again.

Kyle, I have a question. You put the cedar breather down so there is air flow to dry out. But the bottom is hemmed in, so any water build up there may be can't get out. What am I missing? Just looking to understand better. Another question, why no cedar breather under the valley?
@steinwaymodelb
@steinwaymodelb 3 ай бұрын
Yes, the hem stops moisture from running straight out, but it's not like it's sealed. At most it would need to make it's way 8" sideways to the gap between the panel hems.

So, I'm just going to make sure I don't design a roof that requires that kind of detail when I build, because that looks like a royal PITA. I know it wouldn't look quite as good, by my roofer would definitely appreciate if I just run the valley all the way down.
