In this episode of building the dream shop, I am pretty sure we just found the easiest way to install soffit. This new metal soffit product called speedlap truly is easy to use. I also went on a tour of the manufacturing facility where it is made and was able to see the whole process. Big thanks to Metal Wholesale for the tour of the Facility. If you want to give their SpeedLap Product a try, ask your local supplier or contact them here Sales@speedlap.com

A pro tip if, you didn't know already, instead of cutting aluminium with a snipper is to scratch a line with a sharp Stanley knife and then fold it and break it. You won't get wavy edge as with a snipper.

Hey Kyle- could you do a short content on the details of the grade build up for the inside concrete floor and how the concrete interfaces with the piers and grade board? How far up the grade board does the concrete finish grade end up? Where does the floor thickness end up relative to the bottom of the post? All that sort of detail. I’m having a hard time visualizing how that all looks. Thanks for all you share, it’s very helpful.

We use the smartlap for fascia on all our siding builds here in British Columbia, Canada. I love the look. Tip for ya. Install the soffit j normally on the house, install your soffit like you would normally as well with the staples into the sub fascia. Then before installing the lp fascia, put a reverse drip edge to cover the cut side of the soffit. All major brands sell it obviously. It also allows for easy removal if your soffit gets damaged. You can either install it by staples on the sub fascia side, or use screws on the bottom, like you would with regular fascia, to have easy access for repairs! You get a nice flange to cover your cuts, and it’s so simple for instal! Love the channel, and all your tips!

soffit looks good...on those gables I always start at the bottom with one vented piece and finish at the top with a vented...then you get good airflow to let that hot air in cavity vent at the top...jmo

I was surprised to find out that I drove past your new shop all the time, going to the marina. So Friday I was the black Ford the tooted as you were leaving for the day. It kind of startled me, you pulling out, I just was going to take a glance at the shop, driving by. Great work.

Huge fan of poured concrete forms that look like stone which Andrew Camarata just put in on his enclosing of his garage space. "Ground force wind protection" i think is a huge deal in building everywhere outside of the Northeastern USA as are reinforced garage doors. New Tesla Cybertruck truly amazing hauling machine from what I've seen if you're tired of paying for diesel fuel. Ford and Rivian making really good looking battery electric vans which might be the best thing ever for finishing work mobility/tool shed on wheels. Definitely a huge fan of metal roofs. Spray foam insulation has gotten good press as well (Lumah Acres also on KZfaq.) One of the best way for creating passive insulation later on is putting a second roof right on top of the old one somewhere down the line. Amazing how far construction materials have come over the past 20 Years as well as the tools😮😮😮😮😮😮 Definitely no fear of charging top dollar for all of this tho.

Kyle, when mating the two surfaces of the soffit material, I'd bet a nickel that the two mate up the way they do, without two surfaces lying flush together to prevent any place for moisture to condensate and then sit, wet for a long time, between the surface, causing eventual rust. Just my 2 cents! Looks great!

That soffit product looks pretty nice for a conditioned attic space but I'll be building a vaulted non conditioned attic space so I won't need that type of soffit material. I'll probably go with western red cedar.

You should always hold your ledger board an eighth to quarter inch higher than facial. That way there's no chance of water following your soffit down towards your building.

I have a similar product that was put on my home almost 25 years ago. The issue I find is that today I am look at replacing my fasca as it has discolored and looks unsightly do to the weather conditions here in Florida. But the more difficult part is when I installed cameras for a security system around the home and had to take this type material down to put a reforcement board above it to fasten the cameras to it. And my fascial vent install has staples in both sides that I have to remove to get the panels down.

Instead of using a level in marking for the soffit, could you just use a framing square flat against the wall and up to the bottom of the facia board. Be more accurate if your walls are true plumb and quicker. Just a thought.
