Hi tal, the solution is use roof sheeting and cladded it with nipa, u should relay on qualified roofing expert on this and also have a good flashing connection between roof and wall. Use silicone sealants to avoid leaks. This should follow also in your tiny kitchen which will have problems in long run using nipa. Remind that typhoons will destroy light weight materials such as what is installed

I pretty certain you leaks are because they are putting the nails in the wrong location. It needs to be nailed or screwed in the valley, not the hills like most do here. That's why so many leaks. But actually metal manufacturers say to put in the low spot called valley. By putting it in the valley, the metal doesn't move, so it won't cause a leak from nail rubbing metal. We showed in our channel when we built a dirty kitchen in Western Samar. #BiikandKuting

Tal, as far as I know, nipa should be used when the pitch of the roof is much steeper than the roof that you have had built. This is to allow the water to roll off the roof and not just sit there, soaking into the nipa. But the real problem is, or appears to be the cheap ass nails, which are not getting a good grip into the cheap ass coco lumber you've used. My solution would be to remove the nails and replace them with a good long woodscrew which will not be worked free by winds. This of course, is not a simple job. While you're at it, you could apply something like a bitumen paint over the screw head for another layer of protection, and then use the bitumen to stick an asphalt patch to it. And while you're at it, do the same to every seam of the roofing sheet. How it looks doesn't matter because you will cover it all with nipa again. Building in this traditional style clearly has its faults, which is why the Filipinos no longer build this way when given a choice not to. If the roof continued to leak, it certainly wouldn't be through the loosening of the roofing sheet.

The eggs from a chicken that is not together with a rooster will not hatch as they are not fertilized! You should build a protective hollow block wall on the side where your refrigerator is, so the weather doesn't destroy it. Or alternative keep it indoors. I would done that. You can also build a half height all around the outdoor kitchen. The leaks from your roof maybe because of the nipa palm it gets wet and retains the water instead of normal runoff, so if you have placed a plastic membrane under the nipa then it might not leak.
@bolinoy8189 ай бұрын
I think the problem is the nipa on top of the roof. It will just promote rust because it will not totally dryout and in the long run damage further the corrugated roof. You have to remove the nipa and exposed the metal roofing to make it as well easier to fix the leak.

I think your main problem with your roof is that the framing is made from that coco lumber which is quite soft and not suitable for building much of anything that is meant to last. I don't even think using roofing screws would solve the problem of the fasteners pulling loose creating your leaky roof dilemma. Overall, your specific problem is having to live in a corrupt society where building codes are not enforced and where shady builders are not usually sanctioned, and really, there is no end in sight to this endemic corruption; so, you'll have to do what Filipinos do: accept it for what it is and move on. Btw, didn't you also have a black mold problem as well?

I cringe when you say you're getting the carpenter to fix your roofing issues ...... anything involving water - call a plumber - in your case a a roofing plumber . I know things can change as we move from country to country but building trades are consistent - a carpenter is a carpenter , a brick layer is a bricklayer and a electrician is an electrician ..... without seeing what your problems are , I can only surmise one of two things as the cause - substandard materials or substandard workmanship . you mentioned a standard " fix " that doesn't seem t be working - it's not working because it's the wrong fix . all I can suggest is getting the right tradesman on the job
