For faction unity you actually want to go materialist as the amount of faction unity you gain scales directly with the amount of political power your pops have which makes Academic Privilege the best living standard for generating faction unity as it gives your pops on average the highest amount of political power and you can easily get 1+ unity per pop right from the game start this way. Compared with having Decent Conditions as your living standard this will generate you ~50-100% more faction unity depending on how many of your pops are specialists and ironically this also makes Utopian Abundance and Shared Burden the worst living standards as they significantly reduce the political power of your pops and as such tank your faction unity gain.

[SPOILER ALERT!!!!] You could make a movie out of this endgame. The Legion is like "we have to jump behind them and destroy that portal, but there's no way we'll be able to escape their fleet after that, but we have to save the galaxy, we're the custodian, we have to protect everyone else!" And then the rest of the galaxy is like, "Oi! Unbidden! COME AT ME!!!" and the rest of the galaxy hold off the main fleet while the Legion destroys the portal. Some months later, the Legion and the rest of the galaxy's leaders gather their entire military might in order to scour the Unbidden and finally end the war.

36:10 Just thought I should point it out, you can now build armies at your starbases. Those will be pulled from available planets in the same sector and united into a single fleet at that starbase. Or, if you already have an army fleet, theres a setting on it you can toggle so that any armies you build will converge to that specific fleet.

I gotta say, I love the AI jumping in almost like the army at the end of the LOTR movies toward the end, one last stand they know they wont win in unless a miracle happens. Buying all that time. This is why i love paradox games.

Your Minister of Defense being on the other side of the galaxy was the funniest twist of this episode honestly. Also, Merchant's used to give some Unity with the civic, I don't know when they took it out though.

To make parliamentary system works, you need some degree of materialism as well as egalitarianism for the faction bonus inherent to this ethic. Faction unity gain depends on pops political power, and egalitarian living standards like utopian abundance and shared burdens don't give any of those. That's why you need materialism, since the best living standard for faction unity rush is academic privilege, which gives tons of political power to specialists and rulers.

that ending was honestly **amazing.** The rush the Custodian thought was a suicide, to destroy the unbidden's anchor and portal. Only succeeded, barely, because of a true suicide rush from another empire distracting the extradimensionals' fleets. The last of the unbidden's invasion fleets destroyed by a united rush from the entire galactic community, thousands of ships pouring through the gateway one after another. Corvettes, destroyers, cruisers, titans, battleships, frigates, charging in to take shots for the Custodian's carriers, circling out of range and pelting the invaders with strike craft. And finally, victory. The last fleet of the unbidden, simply trying to guard their limited territory, knowing it's only a matter of time before the galaxy produces enough ships to destroy them.

This Build on the Thumbnail looks overpowered as Hell

22:00 remember you only count the hours you've played since overlord released, these systems weren't in the game before then

Genuinely Parliamentary system is so good early on and stays useful afterwards keeping your traditions on track to being unlocked quickly, combined with a trade empire with a trade league you can cover nearly all your unity production without really needing beurocrats.

12:37 Funnily enough Merchant Guilds DID use to make merchants produce 3 base unity, which made them much better than the at the time administrators which produced less unity than the current politician

Remember Latherix, Merchants strictly give you trade value instead of unity, but if you have the right policy, trade value turns into unity, and scales better than any other resource percentage-wise, and a merchant that gives you over 50 trade value for 1 job can be about 25 unity and 25 energy, which is better than say just 25 unity. I personally think that having those civics provide maybe an extra leader job would be great, though it might be overpowered. Say 2 politicians and 1 merchant, and maybe reducing merchant power to maybe just a slightly better clerk would be better. Maybe along the line of a megacorp manager? Maybe not as overpowered as one might think, but the civics need to be buffed, instead of just replaced.
