That is awesome you got to do rotations in the ED & ICU 😊 I did not get the chance to in nursing school but did work in the ICU as a tech and now am a new grad RN there. You are so right though, you have to know everything about your patients and be on top of your game, they can decline in seconds! And yes it can be very high stress lol I love it though 🤗 glad you enjoyed ED!

Thats awesome you get to start an iv and draw blood! Idk if its just my state but we have to wait until we actually become an rn to do that. I wish i could have rotated in the icu. We just got to tour the picu and i plan to work in the picu and nicu. I just love intensive care and being very in touch with whats in going on with my patient/patients and their families and doctors. Although i can understand wishing there was more verbal interaction with the patients 😕

I’ve gotten so many comments in the past regarding the IV thing- it’s just insane! I don’t understand why they wouldn’t let you. And that is AMAZING that you’re going to do PICU/NICU I feel like you have to have a certain heart for that 💖

Yeah... that’s different... i work as a APCT in an ED and its completely different lol. My current ED goes > waiting room > triage > room... If there’s absolutely no space in the patient isn’t critical then they go back to the waiting room. But we try not to keep people in the waiting room. We have a fast track section (its a area of 9 rooms split by curtains) for less acute things and then the rest go to a regular room. In that room everything happens. Patient get into gown nurse starts assessment, sometimes the physician is there sometimes the come in later and put in the orders. If we(the nurse or the PCT) believes that a line needs started or EKG done we’ll start that so its done. Then the rest of the orders are put in and completed by the nurse and techs after the physicians assessment. The techs transport pts to radiology test off the floor. The patients stay in the room while waiting for the results. If we are out of room then pts are still brought into the unit from the waiting room and placed in hallway bed. Which is exactly what it sounds like it’s a bed in the hallway where nurses and the techs will start bloodwork, fluids, give medicine right in the hallway bed. The physician will do their assessment out there and as long as is no procedure requires privacy it will be treated in the hallway until they can possibly be moved into the room if there’s an opening. After treatment they’re discharge or admitted from the room. It’s weird that there’s such big differences between ED’s lol

This is the same for my ED and I would actually prefer it this way it keeps everything a lot more organized in my opinion.

Jackie please, how do you deal with feeling incompetent as a nursing student and (re)gain confidence? How do you deal with not letting other people bragging about their grades get to you in nursing school? I can really go under sometimes and I only started school a month ago. Any tips are helpful.

Since you’re almost done with nursing school..I was wondering what you thought about working at a hospital before you graduate. I don’t know if you made a video about that already, but I just wanted to know your thoughts. I am a freshman studying nursing in a direct admission program, and was thinking about getting a job next year. Thanks so much!

Hi girl! I personally didn’t work all throughout school, right now we’re all interviewing for positions and I’d love to tell you which one of us did get jobs or didn’t related to whether we worked or not. Once we get jobs/hired I could answer this for you!! 💖

Im an experienced ICU nurse and I highly recommend working in the hospital. I worked through nursing school as a tech in a CV ICU and the experience was far more valuable to me than any clinical rotation I did. Yes, it is possible to work in nursing school. Its all about time management.

That ED is odd I've never heard of a waiting area besides the one you wait in before you get called back.
