Come with me on my ideal evening routine with Type 1 Diabetes! ◉ Subscribe: goo.gl/ZfjYfu
I truly believe that the way we bookend our day can have a powerful effect on our Type 1 Diabetes - not to mention our entire lives! From meals that are easy to bolus for to mindful movement, relaxed awareness of my numbers, and let's not forget - that favorite Netflix show that needs attending to (!!) - I take you though my evening and what I'm doing to try my very best to ensure a good night's sleep!
*DISCLAIMER: My Dexcom G6 is measuring my interstitial fluid - So even though I do mention ‘blood sugars’ in this video, my Dexcom G6 is measuring something different to what a blood glucose meter would. A Blood Glucose meter and your CGM will both give you a number. They measure glucose from different sources (blood and interstitial fluid), so those numbers may be different. As always If your glucose alerts and readings from the Dexcom G6 do not match symptoms or expectations, use a blood glucose meter to make diabetes treatment decisions.
**DISCLOSURE: This video has kindly been sponsored by Dexcom UK. I am part of the Dexcom Warrior Programme in the UK, and therefore my Dexcom G6 is very generously gifted to me, free of charge. Dexcom does not pay me to talk about their product, nor am I obligated to do so. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

Yes, yes, yes! I became an instant diabetic 2 years ago when I had my pancreas removed because of cancer. What a shock. Dealing with diabetes is so hard and 24/7. I have only had my Dexcom G6 for a few weeks but the anxiety of having nighttime lows is gone. I tend to have scary lows while sleeping so having the alarms is making my sleep quality so much better. A good night’s sleep is imperative for me too! Thank you for the heads up about the share feature. I didn’t realise that i could share with anyone not just my medical professionals. I appreciate your videos. Thank you!

Hey! I just found out about your channel and binge watching! I have been diabetic for almost 7 years started with Type 2 and ended up with type 1. I have been neglecting my diabetes for years but I feel now I am getting back on track going to my GP and will go to a diabetic dietician and she will explain everything to me. I am suffering with my teeth because of my poor diabetes, it started with my gums and now my teeth are falling which breaks my heart, I am trying to be positive but sometimes I just see in the mirror and don't know who I am anymore. I just want to say thank you because I am learning so much from you and feel more motivated to just live with my diabetes ❤️

You took the words right out of my head about the sleep anxiety without a CGM! I was diagnosed early last year and while it sucks to have Type 1, I'm glad I got it when this tech is already available. I went about 4 months on finger sticks only until I got Dexcom and did not sleep through a single night because all of the horror stories I heard about going low at night. It made a huge impact on my mental and physical health. But when I got the Dexcom G6, I finally felt like I could relax and stop obsessing over my nighttime numbers. It's not perfect, but at least I can sleep through most nights now. :)

My g6 sensors screw up every time it draws blood, it is up to 70 points off, as it tends to just drop to ultra low. It stays there till I force calibrate it, then it screws up and it is still off. Like today said it was 84, and I was getting light headed. Checked it with monitor it was 59, calibrated again! I am just getting sick and tired of it. I was thinking about getting the tandem pump, yet with all these off numbers I am wondering if that is a good idea . . .

The Dexcom has been great at night. Especially with the TSlimX2 and ControlIQ. I have my pump set to vibrate and am a light enough sleeper feeling and hearing that will usually wake me up, but a couple times I’ve woken up in range and discovered I had a slight high or low, for maybe 20-30 minutes, that the pump took care of. (If a high lasts a while or rises too much and/ or too quickly, or I get an urgent low, I do wake up because that’s a lot of noise….)

Nice and helpful, andrea why don't u add some seeds to ur meal like sprinkle some on the top (fennel flower, summak, garden cress, purslane seeds, and many many others) they even lower ur blood sugar that means by u ll lower ur insulin dose. Yogurt is a great item for making new meals, mix it with olive oil and some salt with ur fav green herb and holllaaa , guess what u can blend it with cocoa and coconut oil and ur suitable type of sweetener stevia or so and u have a home made dark chocolate or u can turn it into smoothies by replacing some low carbs fruits

I have been a T1D for over 40 years and things have changed so much during that time, including having babies etc etc. Since having my Dexcom G6 (19 months) I’ve noticed a horrible pattern after dinner that I cannot shake. I pre-bolus, eat low carb plant based, yet my BGL shoot through the roof, then plummet into the 2-3 range. I spend hours sorting the ensuing situation out, eating when I don’t want to eat, adjusting my pump settings, most nights it’s gone 0100am before I’m comfortable with my BGL reading and IOB to actually go to sleep. How I would love to have your system down pat Andrea. I might add, this is a recent thing for me in the past 16 months or so. It might be hormonal, but whatever it is, I’m over it.

Oh I feel you girl!! Wow - this just goes to show - you can have T1D for 40 years (wowza - you're so amazing!) and still T1D has a way of surprising us 🥴 What you're experiencing sounds very frustrating indeed! Golly, I have no idea what I would do in this circumstance. Maybe eating higher protein and less carbs? But gosh, I'm sure you've already tried that, and all this and more because you're a PRO. I just hope you're able to sort it out quickly and get some good rest too!! 😘 Oh and please please pleaseeeee know, my BG's are not always this stable - I DEFINITELY have my ups and downs on a very regular basis so please know this and don't compare yourself to my BG's in this video because I certainly am not always this on it!!!! This is an ideal only!! 😘😘😘😅😅😅

Greetings Andrea, thanks so much for all the videos. I think I am moving from Multiple Daily Injections to a pump, so I have some anxiety over this new thing that will be strapped to my body 24/7. Most of my concern now is over the infusion set. How many days do you go before you change sites? Where is the best place to start with putting it? Does it hurt? As you know we diabetics stab our selves so much we should be used to it by now. nope! Your perferred site for this? Where do you get your supplies? It must take a bag of supplies to get through a month! Thanks so much for any insight you can give me. Andy. (Doxasnob).

Evenings is part of the day I have sometimes difficulties to get good blood sugars. But I have not the time for such an evening routine. I'm to active in to many non-profit organizations so in most cases I still work for them to far after 1 o'clock in the night, or have meetings, ... Now we are working from home because of covid for already more then a year what give the opportunity to work in the garden and also to do some exercise between the profit job and the non-profit jobs in place off traveling to home. I know that for diabetics it is better that you have a fixed routine live, but that is something that I never have with all my activities. And I want also not that Diabetes limit my interests and things I want to change the world for. With CGM and pump you have already a lot of options to get good blood sugars and so I'm very happy that this exists those days. Received today the message that on September 2 I may start up with the Tandem pump and Dexcom G6 so I hope to make then again a step forward in my diabetes treatment!

I have gotta have my tea, also. Keemun is Great for my A1c. Do you feel some teas have better results then others on your BG or no? I’m amazed at the improvements my body has experienced since I stopped drinking pop/soda🤗. I’ve haven’t had coffee too often since November. 🌱☕️I gotta have my Tea! ❤️❤️❤️☕️Absolutely Essential (I’m a MI Girl too) I appreciate you. Thank You

Do you know your MBTI personality type? Are you ISFJ? Just wondering if perhaps I may be right on this...

Oh I think you’re right- darn me! I believe they do have an equivalent Warrior programme, but it’s structured very differently to ours here in the UK!

I am currently using the Dexcom G5 I ad used the Freestyle libre with a miao miao previously. The accuracy of the G5 I have found excellent. As for night time routine. I am still trying find what will work for me. I am my partners full-time carer so any thing I can do after my evening meal to wind down is essential. While I would not recommend this necessarly. I quite often have a small rum and ice about 2 hours before I go to bed

I love how predictable your diabetes seems to be. My son can have days where he eats a tons of carbs and doesn't need insulin at all for it. No idea why. Then say a week later, he needs a ton of insulin and even goes high without eating at all. I sometimes wonder if he is making his own insulin sometimes. I was very interested in this video because his control is most likely to be good during the daylight hours. If he gets close to going to bed, that is anybody's guess as to what it is going to do. He stops eating around 5 or 6 to get past dinner time food responses before bed. Amazingly too, 75% of the time if a site goes bad or his dexcom goes out (sensor or transmitter) it is just after falling asleep. He is nowhere near as predictable as you. He is 31 so it isn't puberty or anything. That was actually less crazy than now.

Please let me know...am betting we all approach our diabetes a bit differently depending on your personality type...hmm...interesting thought I think. I'm INFJ. But am guessing you may be ESFJ? Or...ISFJ?

Oh I'm not sure! But this sounds like an interesting test! Perhaps I need to take it! But also - completely agree - we all absolutely manage and approach our diabetes differently - and I think that's awesome and to be celebrated! It just goes to show how interwoven our personality is with the condition and how it effects every aspect of our life, so this is no surprise (although occasionally I do find it a bit frustrating 😵‍💫😅)!! Great point you've made here basically!!!
