Sidenote to image 14a “carrying using the hook”: there are more use cases than just carrying fancy pastry boxes. In Switzerland, you don’t throw your paper in the trash. You precisely stack your used paper, newspaper, etc. Then you use a string to tie your stack of paper together. You need to carry your Stack from your flat down to the street, where it gets picked up.

My man, respect to another person who gets tool kits. The family is coming around to the concept here and it’s saved us a few times. One in each car, one in the house, small essentials in the camper trailer and boat. EDC can get out of control but a small multitool with scissors on it is just as important as my phone and wallet. Thanks for the vid and the knowledge I’m not alone.

A good friend of mine gave me one of these on my 21st birthday in 1990 and I took it everywhere. I lost it the day before we left Everest base camp to come home, after an attempt at the summit by the West Ridge. That was 2006. Watching this, I think the time has come to replace it. It may be identical but will not be the same as my first; but maybe it will have its own stories to tell given time. (I had also swapped out the pin for a needle.)

Edward Norton (as Scoutmaster Ward) uses the hook in Wes Anderson's film Moonrise Kingdom to grab a zipper tab from under a zipper-shut-in tent door. Of all things! I wouldn't have noticed it without your tutorial, Van.

Hi Van, I was in Switzerland recently with my girlfriend, I checked in the Victorinox store at the airport for all the pocket knives they had and thought about buying one, never did. Going there again in April then I get to buy one, you made me realize how much more than a souvenir it is, think it will make my life a little bit a little bit easier.

videos about tools is dope. I'm moving and going through my grandfather's old tools. He has too many for me to keep, but there is heritage in each one of them. Videos like this inspires me to be intentional with what i go forward with.

I had one of these given to me around 1990. Five or eight years ago I mailed it to the Swiss company to have them sharpen it, and they sharpened and cleaned it up for free just the cost of shipping if I recall.

I like that, everything has it's own specific tool kit, and it doesn't move between spots. I think I will impliment that into my life too. One for my car, studio, apartment, edc, my bike (when I start biking again), and I'll probably make one for work too.

This fulfilled man agrees, since the dawn of time man has created tools to make daily tasks more manageable. These tools were made personally by them with hours of painstaking labor to make it their own and the tools are nothing without them. This fulfilled man appreciated the spirited aspect of the swiss champ!

Great video! I love my victorinox knives! My EDC is a vintage ranger, it has most of the tools of the champ but it's missing the pin, the chisel, the pliers, the Phillips and the magnifying glass. But, it's a lot easier to pocket carry in shorts. I think one day I will get a champ, however.

Every Motorcycle has it’s own EDC (tool-kit). Specific for itself and it’s purpose. Traveller bikes have tools in addition to help others helping me. Personal EDC is a personal pocket folding knife, handmade like my grandfather has made them with my aunts, uncle and mum and from the same locality by a traditional local knifemaker. Jacket EDC is a swisschamp Motorcycle Jacket EDC is a Leatherman original

For my out and about every day kit(I call it my macgyver kit), I also carry (along with the victorinox handyman in black) other bits, like a small para cord reel, folded gaffer tape (into a thick credit card shape) plumbers copper epoxy, a lighter and some small zip ties etc etc.

The lack of a locking blade makes it really tough to carry one of those. I used to carry one similar and had the blade close on my finger gashing me pretty bad and I wasnt using it outside of its intended uses. So that would be my one negative to those style knives other than that very handy tool. And to end Van great work on all your videos really appreciate the hard worker and attention to detail man good stuff dude

I'm in my 49th year of EDC my Swiss Champ, and I don't ever leave base without it. Tool applications are limited by imagination only. The hacksaw eats through steel and the wood saw is incredible, I have used it to cut out letterbox slots in solid oak doors, which it did beautifully. I have never bought a can opener, as I prefer the one on my Swiss Champ, and after opening countless cans over many decades, its still as sharp as the day I bought it. I've used the small blade to make an incision and the tweezers to extract a deeply lodged metal splinter from my hand. It is the best thing I've ever bought in my life and I can wholeheartedly recommend them. Victorinox carrys out repairs at no cost other than postage. Interesting channel and owner, subscribed.

I like the Classic SD on my keys. Minimal. They also come in loads of designs so make a good gift...my partner initially thought it was pretty at least...now "it's just the handiest wee thing" Add an Opinel 08 for camping food prep. Leatherman with pliers in the car. Bathroom has a cheapo screwdriver for the shower drain filter (quicker to take it apart for cleaning).

Outstandingly AWESOME video! I could not have said it better! I have several Swiss Champs and love them! I would also love it if Victorinox one day were to offer an upsized yet identical tool equipped version in the 110mm format. When I was a kid I wanted one of these in the worst way. Now that I'm much older and a bit wiser, I don't see the purpose in most of the tools. I've carried a Tinker for over 40 years The only thing I ever missed was scissors. The Super Tinker and Pioneer X took care of that. Among the 3 of them I have everything I need and nothing that I don't.. I've even used the parcel hook on a few occasions.
