It's all so shiny, I'm jealous! Mine is all cheap, old stuff, but they work. That being said, I'd LOVE an orange TitanLight XL, but it's just not in my budget. The Nano Striker XL is such a good idea to protect the ferro rod, I carry a small tin of a mixture of beeswax and linseed oil that I use for one thing to rub a bit on my ferro rod after I use it to protect it from corrosion, it actually works quite well. For my Bic, I just wrap a thin strip of duct tape under the button so it can't depress unless I peel it back. Thanks for the nice video.

Definitely high quality "buy once, cry once" tools. They will certainly last a lifetime. Love the machining and design. I have the Rip Spool, Match Cap XL, and Nano Spark and love them all.

The best part of the Exotac Firesleeve is it keeps the flint wheel from oxidizing. I have one in my car that I test sporadically. The lighter has never failed to spark or light. A Bic lighter exposed to air will fail. Great product and great video!

Thank you for doing this video. Ive been confused as to all the offerings on the market and bought some cheap Bic lighters, fero rods (which turned out to be way to large for my back pack.... So in other words I don't know what I'm doing lol. So seeing someone review each one helps greatly

You can take the piece that covers up the nano xl ferro rod and twist it in to the threads where the striker came out of.

Sootch you left out the braided line and teh firecord lanyard on the Rip spool! Two of the reasons I bought mine. I have four of these items and agree 110% on Exotac's quality!

I remember a survival instructor saying that fire-starting skills are useless as those who know how to do it never forget their matches. 😂
@remystrach5212
@remystrach5212 Жыл бұрын
That’s probably true to a point, until your matches are defective, and your lighter is soaked. Probably land under the good to know category, but not absolutely essential
@shyowl3453
@shyowl3453 Жыл бұрын
I mean even for lighting a camp fire I don’t use matches, lighters are so much more convenient, idk what that guy was smoking but it’s dumb for survivals sake to rely on matches, easiest reasons are that matches can run out and matches as with anything EXCEPT your skills can get lost if you lose your pack
@shyowl3453
@shyowl3453 Жыл бұрын
@@remystrach5212I think for regular camping it’s unnecessary to know if you stay in a campground or something, but if you are going into the woods with a chance of getting lost for an extended period of time, you really need to know several methods, including ones that don’t require you to have tools with you or minimal tools
@remystrach5212

I literally want to buy all of these items (not joking) after watching this. I already have two of them but would buy them again for other packs. I like the variety too and the fact that most of these items have little compartments is a big deal for me. Currently playing around with dead palm tree branches for tinder so we'll see how that goes.

Cotton balls and Vaseline, I’ve yet to not be able to start a fire regardless of rain conditions, it’s also cheap and waterproof (for the most part) so that’s what I would recommend, just put them in an old pill bottle or something similar
@deceptionsdemise
@deceptionsdemise Жыл бұрын
@@shyowl3453 I've been thinking about that too, although, we get an estimated 8.5 inches of rain per year where I'm from so that's probably why I haven't gone that route yet. It's a good idea though.
