Dan spends his work life blending weekly workshops and lectures with full-time writing, and is also an online religious studies instructor for Columbia College of Missouri. When I do one-arm press, I definitely do the half-kneel one-arm press.

65 yo, spine injury with function and balance limitations. Love this exercise with light weight! Good training for hip and shoulder stability, but not so taxing that I can't do it properly. Thanks!

I have started doing these and have noticed a good improvement in my barbell military press (my main pressing movement). I’m noticed my left arm was a fair bit weaker and these really helped even that up.

Thanks such a great explanation. Could any of Dan’s fans give me their opinion. I know I’d be missing some benefits, but for just general fitness would using a dumbbell be ‘good enough’? I tried last night. (No waiter or bottoms up press though). Thank.

You could hold the dumbbell from the bell end versus in the middle-balancing it upright. That would be an additional challenge!

there are videos where the athlete ist racking the bell on the side with the knee left off the ground. Which difference does it make and why do you prefer the other side?
