I'm Victor and I grew up around different parts of Oakland, CA. In the "My Oakland" series, I highlight a few areas of the town I spent a lot of time in, and of course, that means eating a lot in these areas.

I lived on 35th just up from MacArthur for many years. I was def. a fish out of water, but soon loved the area (and Dimond) and the people. I’ve been gone for a long time, and nearly cried when I saw the places you showed. Never see that part of Oakland on youtube! Great stuff!

It's been 12 years since I lived in the Bay Area. I used to work at a nonprofit out of the highschool off MacArthur in East Oakland. The lack of access to resources between East and West is visible. But I made great connections when I was there. Even it's either more gentrified or impacted by violence, depending on where you are, Oakland has a way of staying with you. It certainly did with me. Thank you for this video. It takes me back!

I grew up in the Laurel District too and we moved out when I was around 9 as well. I used hit up that church's fried chicken once a week.

Phnom Penh House and Vientan restaurant also my favorite. Now I have to go try Lucky Three Seven. Have you been to Cambodan Street Food on Foothill Blvd? They have great food too. The ribs and salaw machu kreung are delicious!

Dude... i'm hella glad i found your channel... Been on the east coast for a little over a year now and constantly find myself missing Oakland. Last place i was at before i left was actually right off MacArthur and Lincoln. Great to see my old neighborhood again and yea dude... Lucky Three Seven!!! I was born in Oakland, 3572 Gray Street, off 35th Avenue. I am old enough to be your Grandma. I never knew, but what do people call the neighborhood of 35th & Gray Street? Is it Fruitvale? Or what?

I'd refer to that whole area as Fruitvale til it reaches 580 and it hits Dimond, but i don't know the exact specifics if people that live in that area call it something else

All the cambodian dishes he ordered are nto authentic dishes. These are created for the western diner

Our go to is bhan Mæ vane in alameda for Laotian dishes. Their Thai dishes I find too sweet but their Lao sausage, nam kao, fried clear rice rolls and spring rolls are our go to orders. Not a fan of Vientian Cafe.
