When it comes to making junk journals, it's important to know your glues/adhesives. Here's my list of favourites. I've tried many over the years and have settled on these for different applications in my projects. Please note also that climate can affect how glues work so what works for one might not work for someone else in a different part of the world.
They are usually available in craft stores. I order mine on Amazon: amzn.to/2l7iNdB
Fabri-Tac
Scor Tape
YES! Paste
Scotch Create
Elmer's Glue Stick (or other brand)
Aleene's Original Tacky Glue

This is all good advice that I’ve used with success. I’ve remembered especially not to use tape for pockets. Tape will stick to anything put in a pocket. I use Tombow glue in the green bottle. I put that glue into a needle-tipped applicator bottle. I use it all the time! I used it yesterday to fix torn binding on my old Betty Crocker. It also removes readily with an adhesive eraser. The needle tip and the glue eraser are 2 of my favorite tools. Thanks for your advice. I use it.

Great to hear youve found some of this info helpful! I've since stopped using the Scotch glue - the formula has changed and I really don't like it. I've replaced it with the green bottle Tombow as well and love it. Art Glitter glue will be the next one I try.

Thank you for this information, the struggle is real when it comes to adhesives, I live in Eastern Canada and have found that adhesives react so differently depending on the seasons, which makes it so difficult to create projects. I finally found "YES" on Amazon this morning...looking forward to seeing how it reacts.

If you want to use the Fabri-tac on thinner fabric without it bleeding through, or any glue on fabric without it bleeding through for that matter, make the fabric into book cloth. There are two methods: 1) Glue rice paper to the back of the fabric with homemade wheat paste, smooth with a brayer or bonefolder, let dry and cut to size, or 2) iron on tissue paper to the back of the fabric with sheets of Heat n Bond, then cut to size. You can find tutorials for both of these methods, but they will both keep the Fabri-tac from bleeding through the fabric. If you use wheat paste I recommend rice paper, and if you decide to use the iron-on adhesive I recommend tissue paper.

Great review! I use Aleene's a lot. Using a very small amt helps with the lack of buckling. Oh, and we *need* to see a flip-through of that journal! It looks absolutely "delicious!" Thanks so much! Hugs!

I love Aleene's glue! When I was a little girl, eons ago, I used to walk by her shop in Temple City, CA. Not sure but I think that was her original store.

Yes! Thought you'd all enjoy seeing a very short clip of the real Aleene! She mentions starting her flower shop in Arcadia, CA which is right next to Temple City where her craft shop was when she was a little older: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m66AgMWIzs_de6M.html

I just had a problem with shiny paper also.I added a really nice shiny page from a book. I had thinned down Fabritac with real acetone(I really like it thinner easier to work with) I added a tuck spot and it totally popped off page! Thankfully it didn't leave mark. If I ever add something to shiny page again I'm sewing it on

Jeanne Corsby-Hale I agree it's not always easy to work with. What I've found helpful is to sand the page lightly before I glue something. And I don't mind that look because it goes with the aged style that I enjoy in my journals.

This was wonderful, thank you! I would like to ask because of the issues we run into with Fabri-tac on thinner fabrics, like you mentioned, what have you found that you like to use instead? Thank you so much!
@debbieanneEVG

Cheaply Chic honestly I simply avoid gluing thinner fabrics. Instead I tack them down lightly with glue stick and then machine stitch. Typically it's for small embellishments so this works for me. Thanks for watching! 😊

Thanks for your tips Debbie anne :) I have a question about the Yes paste- I recently got it and wanted to use it to adhere paper on the cover of small note books. But the glue dried so fast that I couldn’t use it- I’m wondering if yours dry so fast too? Maybe the one I got at my local shop is old.. 🤔

Oh dear! That doesn't sound right, it should be the consistency of butter. You may be right, it could be old/seal broken. Thanks for watching Wenche, nice to hear from you! xo

I realize this video is older, but I wondered if you could please tell me what you would use to stick two thin papers together? For instance, a thin scrapbook paper and back it with thin coffee dyed paper. Thanks!
@debbieanneEVG
@debbieanneEVG 4 жыл бұрын
That might be just an example but I would just coffee dye the scrapbook paper in this case and avoid the bulk. But in the case of a tag that I want to strengthen I use a glue stick and then stitch the edges. Yes paste is messy but worth it for large pieces because there's no warping or air bubbles between papers. Most glues contain alot of water so those are the ones to avoid with thin paper.

Is the Yes paste wet enough to cause wrinkling or warping in thin papers?
@debbieanneEVG
@debbieanneEVG 6 жыл бұрын
Faith Shaffer i don't believe it would cause warping. But for thinner paper I would definitely use a credit card to smooth the paper and make sure there are no air bubbles.

@debbieanneEVG 4 жыл бұрын
The Aleens glue might work but I can't be sure (does the bottle list fabric?), it could dry a bit hard, not sure. As for Amazon, I'm not sure why it wouldn't ship, I suppose it could depend where you are located.

Does the product YES leave a shiny sheen ? Meaning if I glue card stock paper to my journal cover and I get some on my fingers and touch the front, will that leave a shiny shhen?
@debbieanneEVG
@debbieanneEVG 2 жыл бұрын
It's been a while since I've used it but I don't remember a sheen at all. It is VERY sticky so I always had a few wet wipes in use while I worked with it. It washes off quite easily even if it dries in the wrong place, and also comes off with an adhesive eraser.
