In this video I go through a wide variety of glues and adhesives and talk about how well they work or do not work in junk journals. For this video I did go through my collection of glues that I had in my stash and try them out in a journal signature to see how well they held up and I share with you the results. The views and opinions expressed in this video are all my own.

So good to revisit glues and how they work long term. There are many videos where people open a bottle and tell me what's in it - which is no good to me. This was most helpful - thank you so much for the time and for sharing.

Thank you so much for watching. I am still a big fan of Alene's as my "go to" glue for most projects but I always encourage everyone to take a look at what they currently have in their stash and what the label says it is for before going out and purchasing anything new. It is always good to shop and use your own stash first.

Thanks so much for watching and commenting Pam. I believe a lot of ladies love the Art Institute glue and like this for their go to glue. I have used this glue way back when I used to use their glitter on card making projects but my local store no longer carries it so haven't used it in a long time but what I know about this glue it would definitely be a great glue to use in journal making. Thanks again for leaving a commenting and sharing your favorite glue with everyone.

Thanks so much! I just really wanted to get the point across on how important it is to read the labels on the glues that we own and buy and that a lot of different glues will work just fine especially when you are just gluing paper to paper. It is definitely easy to get caught up in what everyone else is buying and using when sometimes we have a product that will work just fine in our own stashes.

I have had so many questions about glue. This was really helpful. I was sdo excited when I discovered 3 in 1 glue which is similar to the fabri-tac glue. Everyone has their favorite glue for all different reasons and remember to always use a coupon when puchasing them. It's good to know that some won't hold over time. When you put so much work into projects you want them to last. Thank youfor this video... :)

Thank you so much for watching. Yes we all do have our favorites and a lot of time it is based on what we can find locally at least that is how I find my glues. I tend to use the same ones and when they are not working for me I will seek out a new glue. I would have loved to have compared more glues but I only used what is in my stash. I also believe that a lot of white glues are very similar and just really vary depending upon how much water is in the glue.

When it comes to glue I say try and use what you already have and read the label as you never know what will work. I actually find the best deal for Aleene's glue at Walmart. I can buy it in a 16 oz bottle as I go through quite a bit of glue in a year. I have been using it for years. I know of women in the junk journal community who strictly use the Elmer's glue for their paper to paper gluing and their journals are still holding up after 10 to 15 years. So you definitely don't need to buy expensive glue for basic paper to paper gluing.

Thank you for talking about the last varnish glue you spoke about and about the double sided tapes. I've been worried how long did the double sided tape last over the years because I was using the smaller tape runners and with time I noticed things would fall apart and I was horrified after doing so much detailed work for it to just get damaged and fall apart. So glad to hear the the double sided tape lasts.

I think mod podge works fine on covers or on canvases but would stay away from using it on your actual pages inside of a journal as I have some altered books from about 15 years ago that the pages are stuck and mod podge was used and have heard of this happening to others in their journals. Again the biggest thing you can do for yourself is to read your labels of your glue so you know what they are meant to work on. Since you are international I would still look for what you can buy locally and just read your labels to see what the glue is used for. You might find similar products to those that I mentioned just from different companies.

Thanks for this informative video. I believe I have every one of those adhesives... ☺ LOL but I haven't tried certain ones yet. One that you didn't mention is Aleene's Quick Dry. That is my favorite.... I glue everything with that. The gold bottle one, her original, is not quite as thick and takes a little longer to dry at least in my opinion. Also a Aleene's Fast Grab is good but it's kind of hard to squeeze out of the bottle it's really thick!

Reptile glue is a very good glue. It is very similar to the Art Glitter Glue. Both dry pretty fast and you can use it on pretty much anything. I tried the Aleens tacky glue and I did not like it. It would not stick well and I was just gluing paper to paper. I would like to find a cheaper glue though.

Actually I have to take back what I said about mod Podge. I have tried the matte Mod podge and have been in love with it I even tried to buy a gallon jar on Amazon but ended up with a 32 ounce one instead. really I just love it I don’t know if they changed the formula but it does wonders for gluing paper to paper. And I haven’t been getting wrinkling or warping either
@PaperPlaywithJulieK

My issue with the mod podge is that if you live in a humid climate and use it for a collage medium on papers in an altered book or journal you run the risk of your papers sticking to each other over time and not being able to open up your journal or altered book. I have several altered books from way back that I did and also had friends collage in and I am no longer able to open the pages because the mod podge and humid climate made them glue shut. Yes I agree that it works great as a glue but I would never use it in a journal as I live in a humid climate in the summers. I have used the mod podge on an altered canvas and been fine and things are holding up years later but then again it isn't an item that shuts like a journal or altered book. Hopefully that makes sense.

My favorite glue stick is called: Prima Planner Glue Pen, I've seen it sold at the Marlborough Mass. Scrap Book Fair The Vendor that sells it, they are called the Tall Mouse I believe, but I found that Hobby Lobby sells it too. It seems like a glue stick but way more stronger, and it almost looks like a see through gel and it comes in three colors, light blue, pink and translucent yellow/beige like color. I wonder if you have tried it and know if it lasts as long as other glues do or even better; (works great on embellishments )when I used it it bonds fast and super strong just wonder how long cause I ran out and where I live Hobby Lobby has not reopened its doors yet. Tank you so much for your input. I really value your thoughts.

Is this glue from Art Institute? If so I used to use it about 15 years ago with glitter. I am not able to find it locally anymore so I haven't used it in years. I tend to use what I can find locally. But from what I remember it is has a nice tip on it for fine detailed work and worked well of course with glitter. It is another form of white glue that is similar to so many of the glues on the market. It would work well for paper to paper gluing, however, I do not know how well it would work with gluing embellishments like buttons and flat back pearls. If you have used it for these items I would be curious to know how it holds up.

Robin, I have used the Yes paste in the past and did like it. My problem with it was that you really need to be careful making sure that the cover is on tight as mine dried out before I got to use half of it. I haven't purchased since as no one locally sells it and I try to buy as many supplies as I can locally. I have never heard anything else negative about it and remember that it was a good glue for not wrinkling my paper. At the time I only used it for card making so don't know how well it would work on heavier items. Thanks so much for watching.
@sheryllamoureux1068
@sheryllamoureux1068 4 жыл бұрын
I have a deep fondness for YES paste because I seem to get wrinkles with just about any kind of wet glue. You do have to keep plastic wrap between the cover and jar to keep it wet and to prevent the lid from sticking.The big plus with YES glue is that it adds body and weight to paper to paper projects. I use children's book circles glued to card stock backs with heavy thread run through the middle to make party mobiles. It works as well for paper dolls of other figures that need to have the strength to stand up. I believe it would hold up heaver items like pearls since I walked around for an hour one day with a magazine dangling from my hand that I had been using to work on.Thanks so much for this excellently researched video!

Got glue on my junk journal cover. I used scrapbook paper and white tacky glue. Later after it dried. There were some spots on the cover that reflect in the light. It takes away way from the look from my journal. One how do you get rid of the sheen and what glue can I use that won't cause sheen spots. 😒🙄😭 please and thank you!

Are you talking about glue that seeps over the edges? If that is the case try and go a little lighter with the glue. I always have paper towels and baby wipes on hand near my crafting area so that when I find that I put too much glue on things I can dab gently to try and pick up the glue. Also you could try some sort of matte medium and use that as glue. When it dries it will be a matte finish versus glossy. If you are on facebook look for my craft group Paper Play with Julie K and you can post pictures in the group so I might better be able to see what you are talking about and might have more answers for you.

I get that water-based glues will kind of wrinkle paper. But which one won't at all? I want to glue a pretty magazine picture to thick paper (Tim Holtz paper pad paper) that will be the journal cover. I'm afraid it will wrinkle. I wonder if I should use the fabri-fix for a cover. This video is so helpful, thank you for taking the time! :)
@PaperPlaywithJulieK
@PaperPlaywithJulieK 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I have a couple of recommendations for you to think about.....first if you have a sewing machine you can always skip the gluing process and sew the layer down, which would have no wrinkles but if that isn't an option you might want to try Yes Paste/Glue. The brand name is Yes. It is a drier glue and you either spread it using your fingers or use an old plastic gift card. You want a nice even thin layer of this glue. This glue is known for not having wrinkles once it dries. I have had this glue in the past and it works great and used to use it a lot with lighter weight scrapbooking paper but it had a tendency to dry out on me and I always ended up using my fingers to apply it and didn't like the messy fingers. This glue comes in a tub type container. I also think that there is another brand on the market that is similar but off hand I can't think of the name. Overall I think the fabri-tac type glue might be too wet for what you want but if that is all you have it is always good to go with a smaller amount of glue and possibly just go around the edges of the paper and not fill in the glue. I would also maybe try it out on a scrap piece of paper to see how it works and dries before committing to a glue for your magazine paper. I also believe that some people like to use glue sticks for magazine paper but my experience in the long run is that things can fall apart with glue sticks but the quality might be better these days and I admit that I haven't tried glue sticks in awhile.

Yes I have used Gorilla glue but I guess it is just with home projects. I have never tried it on any paper crafting. I don't think I have any anymore but the next time I see my dad I will see if he has any for me to try out after I read the label and see specifically what it is good for.

Maybe it’s a bo bunny paper, not the fabric Tac glue. why don’t you try using another glue on the bo bunny paper and see if it bleeds?

Just throw out that mod podge that’s way too much work not worth it I’d rather pay more for the matte medium

I am the same way with the mod podge but I still had it in my stash and wanted to discuss it versus the matte medium.
