Maybe it’s because a lot of the stuff I see online these days just paints medicine in a negative light, but you saying you have the best job in the world just makes me even happier I decided to go for med (hopefully starting in September!!). Thank you for showing what it’s really like, including the good stuff 😊

If you haven’t spent a good portion of your life studying medicine up until this point, it will likely be very difficult if you get in. I started studying pediatric trauma anesthesia years before enrolling in nursing school. I do pretty well on the board examination questions. & I haven’t even taken the NCLEX. Really just focusing on becoming a NP. Whatever it is you are gonna practice, I recommend you study it way before you start your residency.

I love my job! But I am insufferably positive about everything to the point that it must be really irritating for everyone around me 🤣 but I think you need a bit of that in medicine to get through! Best of luck with starting med 💖

The most real thing I've read and I've been relating to it more year after year is that medical degree is like being in a relationship, you cry you laugh, you have easy times you have hard times, you experience failure you experience success, you love it you hate it, you overcome hard times and it becomes part of who you are, compliments you and makes you work harder to become a better version of you.

I know you are busy but you never fail to amaze me! You still go on vacations and enjoy your time during holiday, sometimes work 7 days a week, and still find time to make the best quality videos/vlogs. Watching your channel and seeing you from the beginning of med school up to now being a doctor makes my heart so happy! FAYE YOU ARE LITERALLY ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING PEOPLE! I hope you always remember that ❤

As an academic doctor, I definitely feel the being 'a shell of a woman' after a long day of utter chaos in the lab. Guaranteed when I have a big/busy experiment on, I'm the most popular person in the department for asking questions or favours from other people. When I get home, I prey that the batch cooked meal in the fridge is still good, and wonder if my hair can stand another day of not being washed (I have thick, curly, non greasy hair, so in the winter I can go a week without washing it!).

For some reason those EU regs never made it to Ireland. I have worked an 11/12 day stretch as an intern. Definitely felt like a shell of a woman then too. I wish I had adopted the ‘doing things before work’ mindset because there were weeks I truly got absolutely nothing done. Great vlog Faye, it is the best job in the world and I think the trend of a lot of medical KZfaqrs leaving medicine is fair enough but it’s nice to see the good side too.

I want to make a small correction. As American doctors, we don't work UP TO 80 hours per week. We work UP TO 80 hours per week averaged over 4 weeks. This means that we might work 100 hours per week for more than one week in a month.

Love your vlogs! Just a small correction, you can become a consultant from 7 years+ post med school (radiology for example)- most are not a minimum 10 years but often people just extend their registrar bit as generally no real rush to become a consultant especially if you have children/do a PhD/other committments etc :) xx

Currently still watching this, but girlies out there, don't feel bad for needing support from a partner! especially people in Fayes position! Back when we sort of designed the systems we have today, the person doing the demanding career role, would generally have a wife (and yes would likely be a man) who very likely was not expected to do house work, would be fed and kept by their wife, who may have had a part-time vocation. Her labour is absolutely acknowledged and seen, but nowadays a lot of women fall victim to us currently existing in a society that just expects us to do both. Of course its better to be able to have a chance of career equity, but no one has taken on that missing domestic, full-time equivalent role in the household. Now both people in a couple have to work (for the most part), it seems really obvious to me that in this situation, Faye wouldn't be able to cook regularly. Her 2 full time jobs, and carer progression and future earning potential justifyies a reduced load of household tasks. Basically im saying, if I was Fayes other half, id be a domestic goddess. Go get that career girl, ill cook pasta and vacuum alongside my part-time or desk job. Flat would be spotless 🤣 But being for real tho, I work less than my partner, I take on more mental load in the house, but my partner still does their share. Thats fair and equtiaitble for us.

Sometimes doctors in the US even have work all 7 days, with a 24hr shift thrown in as well. The amount of hours doctors and nurses work here is insane, and on the patient end has me concerned. As a normal person with to little sleep I make big mistakes. a chronically sleep deprived doctor has so much risk 😬 Love your videos 😊
