My first ever hammock camping and safe to say, I won't be hammocking again. I absolutely hated it. This camp was a disaster, but fun. It was below freezing with a very frosty morning! We were both using the Crua Hybrid.

Back out in the Devilla Forest and oh boy was this a wild one. Instead of using a tent, me and Cassie brought our Crua Hybrids and used them as a hammock! Dafty Duck here forgot an underblanket and temperatures were to be below freezing, so not a good start. Setting up was fine and a stroll, but sleeping in it? Nah. Sensory overload, super uncomfortable, far too difficult to get into, and one of the straps snapped, so I ended up sleeping on the ground without a bivvy. BUT what a performance from my Black Ice G700 sleeping bag and Light Tour sleeping pad, but dealt with the cold temperatures and convection brilliantly and I had a super warm sleep. I love spending time with Cassie and she did an amazing job dealing with my tantrums here... so I get her breakfast in the morning lol.

Ok mate that looks a shocking attempt of a hammock it’s more a floating condensation trap hahaha that’s what froze over in cassies, don’t judge a hammock camp experience on that hammock camp wait till you sleep in a proper hammock lad with tarp over it like sam said get out with us on a hammock camp properly mate. Looked a good wee camp good to see yous out guys ✊🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Definitely love my more basic £20 hammock with my DD tarp slung over the top 😂 much much warmer in the winter for sure!

Ok firstly thats not a hammock theyve marketed that as a hammock/tent thats a floating tent mate just looking at that is making me uncomfortable. Hammocks are not universal you need to find one that suits you mate your a tall guy so the taller you are the longer and wider the hammock needs to be. You need to come with me for a hammock camp i can give you all the gear you need and if at the end you still dont like it then maybe its not for you even get out with me for a day trip mate set the hammocks up get a munch in the woods. Great vid none the less ive still to do a hammock camp in devella. hope your well mate !!!

I hate camping hammocks as well. The only good Hammock is one on a tropical beach overlooking a blue ocean with a pina colada in your hand. :D

Great video as always Monty. I've never bothered with the whole underblanket malarkey, I find a good insulated mat does the job just fine. That did look like an odd wee tent though. Too wee for me I think.

If the hammock is less than 11 foot long you’ll not get a flat lay across the diagonal - guaranteed discomfort. If you don’t insulate yourself adequately from the cold from beneath the hammock - guaranteed cold bum and core. A decent ordinary 11 foot or 12 foot hammock can be obtained for under £6, the money saved should be invested in a good quality down underquilt, and a tarp suitable for protecting the user from the elements. The setup shown is the problem, not the concept, as many very happy hammock campers will attest. A try hang of a sensible setup would transform your experience.

The crua hammock looks terrible. Far better on the market. Even the DD catseyes is better looking and stronger. Hope you give it another go with a different brand

Great video, Monty. Loved the interaction between you both. Must admit, I'd find it too spooky in the forest! I'd also be worried that the hammock would break under my weight, too! Your hair grew back quick. Lol.

You might not have enjoyed hammocking, but you still made a great video if it 👍my hammock setup is a bit more conventional, DD hammock , tarp and underblanket. Maybe you could get in touch with DD to test some of their gear?
