The Presonus Studio Live 16 is still a great digital mixer. I have been looking for a digital mixer that is compact and durable enough to do smaller shows. The PreSonus StudioLive 16 by @presonus just might fit my needs. This might be one of the most slept-on ecosystems I can think of.

Had one of the first studio live consoles years ago. But ended up selling it to grab the x32 rack. I live on a island in the Caribbean. Having no faders is godsend for the environment down here. Faders on consoles start going bad a month of usage here. Ive had the x32 rack for almost 9 years now!

@@DCAVLdust isnt much of the problem. We have salt in the air here haha most venues are over the ocean on piers. All that salt in the air just sticks to your equipment. At a point you can literally wipe off the salt with your finger if you pass your hands on the surface on your gear hahaha ive had powered speakers blow out from crystalized salt that accumulates inside the electronics and turn to liquid when they heat up from usage haha its nuts and sucks, gear is twice as expensive to get down here and has a half lifetime compared to if they are used in the US 😩

I've been using the studio Live 32 since 2019. Once you get use to it, the work flow is so easy. It's easier to use a computer with UC control than a Tablet when doing FOH and yes The HPF is on the input

I see a lot of people online using the computer app to control the mixer over the iPad app. I can see why now. At first, I thought it was just a nerd gearhead thing but, now I know it’s just better. I think If I had 5 0r 6 more shows on it I would feel really at home with this desk. I am looking at putting a larger 32sx in a church right now as I can’t get other brands and this felt like a solid option. Thanks for being here and your comment.

I mixed on a PreSonus 24.4.2 for about 8 years and loved it. Idk the work flow just jived with me. About 2 years ago now it was time to upgrade (old console still works, just wanted more features). I ordered an M32, on paper clearly a superior board to the sl32. I unboxed it, mixed some demo stuff for a few hours, and decided if i loved the work flow of the PreSonus so much, why would I want to change that up just for some slightly better specs? I sent it back, ordered the sl32sx and havent looked back 😎. Thanks for the video!!

Just to add on, there was a lot I liked about the M32. It's a great console, and I definitely preferred the faders. But I guess I'm a simple guy and for me I find the PreSonus more fun to mix on

I was the exact opposite! I actually found it very difficult to mix on. The M32 with a screen made the workflow easier for me to understand. The 24.4.2 just was not my workflow, but it sounded really good. After using an M32 for so long, trying new things feels really good. I just got a SL32SX for a church and will install it soon. The new PreSonus gear works and feels a lot better to me than before. I’d love a fader upgrade package for them. Thanks for watching and leaving comments! I’m about to try Presonus Metro. Have you tried it?

@@DCAVL To be honest I hadn't even heard of it til you mentioned it. Seems cool! A major drawback of the SL 32 is the lack of Midi support (so I could run a midi controller for a live stream mix for example). I wonder if this might be able to solve that problem.

@ I have a 16.4.2 which I've had for a few years, and mixed on it regularly. It's very different to the M32. I think the M32 sounds a lot better, and can have a faster workflow than the old StudioLive, despite the fact there are far fewer features on the 16.4.2. I don't use the 16.4.2 much these days; I'm contemplating selling it. Despite the hate PreSonus gets, I think they make great consoles.

I had a presonus mixer and it was ok but theI found the eq and compressors to be weak. I have since gone to a Souncraft Ui24 and the Eq, compressors and Fx all sound great. It responds how an analogue mixer does. People complain about the Wifi but I have a fairly new IPad and have had no problems. Keep mixing!

Really nice job. Those mixes and band sounds good. In the end all did their part and your knowledge paid off. I need some of that 😊. Suggested- I’ve played pro since 1976- great drum sound from quality drums, pies, mics, and artist manipulation of instruments as drummer can be a huge separation- yes on many level. An engineers best friend is quality, well tuned instruments to work with. 😊

Ps. With that being a help to engineer. I don’t know why more engineers go stand or squat behind d drummer to hear what drummer hears. Thats ultimately what we want. An engineers job is to accurately and lightly embellish / balance what they hear from the artist and instrument at the proximity of musician. The “butt mic” is a good spot for mics and others to listen to the drums.

Had the StudioLive III 32sc (newer version of that mixer) and 24r (rack) for my studio for a bit, was a bit finicky and more complicated than it needed to be. The AVB networking was unreliable, sometimes taking several reboots for the mixers to see each other. Definitely much happier with the Behringer ecosystem (X32 Rack, Midas DL32 stage box, X-Touch, and an MR18 for smaller gigs and monitor mixes). Great video! :)

Wouldn't use it on theatre (which is what I do most of these days) but defo looks promising for music applications

Yes UC Surface is not like a normal remote mixing app, but I did like that it did all the basic channel labeling, color coding, and basic eq settings I needed. I have to use an old Studiolive 24 (circa 2008) now and then. Probably one of the first models to support remote control via an app, which is now called UC Surface. I don't love it, but I don't totally hate it either. My main problem is that as old as this one is, I have to run to the stage to tweak the analog gain pots (yes, the venue put the mixer on the stage, and the usual house guy actually mixes from the stage like the oaf he is... I have to bring my own router & iPad to do a proper FoH mix - lol). But I see that newer models have software gain, so awesome. I'm not a fan of the effects at all, and I don't like how mute groups (to turn off all effects between songs with just one click, for example) only exist on the high end models. That's just silly. A tiny Behringer X-Air 12 has mute groups, for trucks sake! And this old mixer desperately needs service... it's a 24 channel in name only - lol. But hey, it's good to have options, and it's nice to see that they are improving their product. BTW, X32 v2 family (with combo jacks, FINALLY), and a Wing rack + Wing compact coming in 2024, so don't blow your wad on a new mixer right now if you don't have to... nothing beats Wing effects in that price range, in my opinion.

It should just be called Presonus Live because it will FREEZE in the studio. Here's a workaround tip. Of you plan on moving tracks or making any major changes in your DAW session, don't have the Studiolive on while doing that. Your board will freeze and you will NEVER be able to use it in that session again. I lost control of two mixes until I figured out the workaround. I had to bounce all tracks and open it in a new session. Definitely don't turn in the Studiolive when creating a mix template. I got locked out of that and had to create a new one. At first, this made me angry because I had just left Cubase for Studio One.

100% right. The x32 (at least for me) is way more intuitive and easier to work with than any presonus stuff. (Tho i love StudioOne as a DAW and use it daily). But i never got quite warm with their consoles. Also i don't think there's a huge "sound"-difference, especially on locations like these where you have to fight the physics of the various materials the sound is bouncing from. I personally use the M32, x32 Rack on a weekly basis. I also got to play with the Yamaha CL5 from time to time, which i also love. Each console is unique. But the Presonus is not a x32-killer by any means.
@DCAVL
@DCAVL 8 ай бұрын
I don’t think it’s a pretty outrageous comment. Clearly, you are very passionate about the Behringer X or M32 desks. I’m not here to change anyone's mind or fight in the comments. I’m going to mix on an M32 tomorrow and I use an X32 A LOT. This is what I do know.. X32 has more FX (that have not been updated), a color scribble strip, an option card slot, and offline edit software over the PreSonus. With the legacy of being released 11 years ago, it proved to be a great mixer. We all had to learn it and know it. So now it feels like home to a lot of us. PreSonus gives us an actual DAW when you buy the desk, 32-track recording on an SD card and no computer or option card required. I can route anything anywhere and not in just banks of 8. The FX racks loaded into the desk are minimal, but more have been released and we think more are on the way. Even without the option card there is still hardware to run outboard gear like WAVES if you want. TOUCH SCREEN. I can touch the screen that looks really good and is 7 inches for people who can’t see little grayscale/yellow text. Don’t have a phone adapter? No worries you can do the walk-in music with built-in Bluetooth if you had to. Now maybe “killer” is the wrong word, and I’m sure I missed some advantages with the X32. We all know I’m just trying to get people's opinions and bring us together with a good clickbait thumbnail. The thing is Presonus is moving forward with flexibility and convenience and, I think that's something to notice. Thank’s for being here and I hope you enjoyed the video. I have some videos coming out on my M32 soon. See you then!

@@DCAVL I have nothing against presonus and I think they make some really nice products. Was just thrown off a little by the Killer statement because in no way is it a Killer. Not even close actually. Not saying its a bad mixer but it takes a lot more innovation to kill a product that came out in 2011 and yet is still here and the most popular selling console in the world. Honestly they dont need to update the effects because for built in effects if you learn to use them they are actually quite good. I have thought about the touch screen for a long time, but honestly I use Mixing Station anyway and its much better and much faster than the X32 would be even if it were touch capable. Once again, not knocking the Studiolive and may actually pick one up at some point. The board to look out for is the Wing. Once they get the display problem sorted out, that console is a Killer to all the sub 10k boards. It is loaded with unbelievable features and power in its price range. Nothing out there right now at the 4k price point even comes close. Do a video on that.
