I remember searching for realistic first month Etsy shop results, with finding none. The truth is, it's not as easy as many say it is. But nevertheless, it can be worth it if you're being consistent.
There was so much information to add to this, so I'll be make another video specifically on how to build products and do keyword research.

Thank you for being real! I'm tired of seeing youtube videos that say "How I Made Six Figures My First Month on Etsy" (exaggeration, obviously. You get the point).

I know, I also had feelings of discouragement once I understood those numbers don't always apply and truly realized these people probably had multiple shops thats failed and had now perfected a method that could bring them that kind of income. I left the expectations and just worked on my shop in my own pace, not really looking at what others were doing. I was happy for every sale that I made and was not there for the money, because I would've just quit straight away (since it wasn't pouring in from day one).

Hi Cherie, don't give up on it! I will be showing you the visitor count of my shop for the first months and you'll see there was not much going on. Just know that people will find it once you have something of value in your shop and in the beginning with only few products, visitors might be hesitant to invest in a shop that has not yet been fully established. Keep on going and focus on creating a brand image and more products of the same niche. You got this 💫

It's normal, and something everyone should be aware of - detachment is also key. You work on the shop, but then let go of the desperation for it to work. Know that it will. Many of us keep on working but not actually doing much for it (not actual steps) and then expect major results 🌸

Thank you for saying this! It was hard for me at first too, since I did think with my photography and design background I could create products that would be sold instantly, it really took me months to figure out the full work process and my own 'visual language'. So be easy on yourself, you're learning a completely new thing here! Setting small goals for yourself will help you be accountable and will motivate you to keep on going. Try to learn something new every week to develop your business

Love to hear this 😭I did feel vulnerable in sharing this since it's somehow engrained in us that the results should be magnificent from the start, but everyone starts small and I think this way it's way more realistic and something that can be expected. I also feel it might be one of the reasons we give up so quickly, since we feel the results should be instant.

@sonyamantere Жыл бұрын
I know it's such an easy tip, but being consistent will eventually show you what you need to do with anything you pursue. But I think a part of it is also getting better at what you do. Look at your shop and try to find what it is you like about it and what products have had the most views - then replicate them and create similar ones. Set a weekly goal like 3 products/week and stick to it to see changes. :)

I also am about to start a shop soon and just been back and forth about what Niche to hope on but I just decided on one because I would never start otherwise :)) I really do a lot of research and actually today ill start making my biggest product. I have many created that are not as main focus but ill actually intend to use them as a loss leader just to create movement, visits and possibly sells. can't wait to get there though... wish u the best of luck with your journey.

Yes, just decide on the niche, otherwise you will not be able to go forward with anything else either. Are the loss leaders still similar niche that you're thinking of going with? So that they won't be totally different from each other. All the best with your journey too, just gotta do something small everyday 🌸

It's good you are sharing your journey. Just so you know, there are many people making good money with their general shops---they sell all kinds of things. The thing that matters, more than what you are selling, is to do your seo research and have your listings be excellent. Your sales would have gone up no matter what in Nov. because of the holidays. You are right that Etsy likes it when we are in our shops daily. Best of luck to you 🙂

I love you for some reason: 1. BEING REALISTIC: I was contemplating since this morning here and thinking about what to do. Whether I continue what I'm doing or just stop. I started selling on Etsy 3 or 4 days ago, and I always look at the visitor stats every time before I sleep and hope to gain more views. Because, because I believe it can at least change the tide of the algoritm. Though I haven't got any sales yet (probably because I haven't had too many items in my shop), having a view in at least one of my products gives me hope. 2. I was shocked to know that you are the creator of that time table. 3. Thank you for inspiring me... really, Thank you! Your video and what all you say is the reality.

The universe brought you here 💫 ! I recommend Etsy since it's quite easy to use and the platform itself will push your products to the customers without having to create a store. 4 days is nothing yet! Make a decision you'll wait for 6 months: during this time try to create a coherent banners and logo (+colors for your shop), review the pricing of your products (what are others asking for the same product and what are they offering), how are your selling images? And are you using enough keywords in your description and headline? It'll get better, but remember to develop and see what's not working.

I wish that too, more people could see that it might start out differently and that there are many factors you need to take into consideration. The niche, branding and the product itself of course. The thing is, anyone is capable of doing this but it might just take more time than expected - but using the time to develop the products and grow the shop will take you closer to creating an actual income out of it. Nothing it perfect the first day! keep on going :)

Sonya, thank for you sharing your honest experience. I'm someone who struggles with chronic illness and just graduated from university- I don't think I have the ability to find work at the moment so I'm trying to find ways to heal from my sickness and make money at the same time. One day I'd like to be able to help pay for my medical bills through something like what you've described. I wanted to ask- how much time would you put into this on a daily basis? Would an hour or two a day or every other day suffice??
@sonyamantere
@sonyamantere Жыл бұрын
Hi Victoria, I put about 10-20 hrs / week, some days I'd have more motivation and could work intensely, but other days I'd do the minimum like update old listing images and maybe change the prices or add sales for specific dates. I'm not sure which niche you're going for but if you're planning on getting into the digital download niche, I found that writing a blog was more lucrative than selling on Etsy. You're able to build your Etsy store for less, but I later found out that it was pretty time-consuming. My blog is making me around 100-150$ / month and I don't have to attend to it daily. Of course it took me 2 years of getting here, but once you choose the right topic to write about and get through the initial hassle of learning it all, you can monetize with both affiliate marketing as well as ads (which is TRULY passive). All the best to your venture :) !

I'm heavily considering starting a store but would you say it's better to focus on one niche, or a limited set of products ? Or can you just randomly have different niches in one store - like selling fishing related tee shirts and baking related posters all in one store? Does that look confusing or messy?
@sonyamantere
@sonyamantere Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. What I meant by this that I found it to be more unclear for the customers and Etsy, if you had very different products in your shop. This usually resulted in customers not seeing my shop as professional enough, especially in the beginning. Later on once you have hundreds of products you can start adding different niches but I would still stick to having themed shops like ie. a party shop (this could first have games and things that are digital / printable and then adding more products that are physical). I know it's difficult to decide in the beginning, but once you decide which products you're going with, it also clarifies where you should be focusing. And Im always talking more from the perspective of a digital shop because thats what I created, but I do think similar things apply to a physical product shop. Hope this helps!

Thank you for this tips. I’m a newbie and just about to open my shop on Etsy. I started doing research what I should offer, what’s the difference of printables from digital downloads?
@sonyamantere
@sonyamantere Жыл бұрын
The difference is that if you sell printables, you'd be selling printable trackers, games, resumes etc. And if you're selling digital downloads it could be anything from social media templates to planners that you can use on your ipad. Mostly they're considered to be around branding, so social media templates for Pinterest/ Instagram/ KZfaq. Also logo design and shopify themes etc. I hope this helps!

When. you say it blew up on tiktok, did you make that video or someone picked up the product? Thanks for the realistic example. Very useful!
@sonyamantere
@sonyamantere Жыл бұрын
Oh yea I could clarify: I did not use tiktok at the time to promote anything, so the product was going around tiktok through other creators that were posting videos marketing the product and showing how to use it. I then created the product (it has a basic and well-known design) - making it my own of course - and once I created it, it brought me my first surge of customers because I was offering something that there was obviously a need for. So looking out for products that are popular the time you're creating them: like now, I might think anything to do with budgeting is a theme people are really looking into. Hope it helps! :)

Hi. Glad to hear you've started your shop. How old is your shop and how many products do you have ? Do you upload new products weekly ? Printable planners are popular but it of course depends also on the design and your pricing. Do you have good reviews form your customers? That will also signal to the new customers that your customer service and products are impeccable. I understood that you're using ads? It might not do much if your shop doesn't have a clear brand identity or enough products to communicate to your customers that the shop is growing at a steady pace.

I have had my etsy store up since the start of this year (january 2023) and i have over 100 listings all keyword optimised. However in these 4 months i have only had 6 sales, I am currently selling a mix of everything ranging from water colour animal prints to t-shirts to sweatshirts. I was wondering if you think i should kind of start over again and organise my shop and focus on just one thing to sell. I have been getting around 10-15 visits a day and a lot of favourites on certain products but just no sales. I also have been consistent over these 4 months and have released a few listings a week.

Hi! is there a way to offer personalization of downloads? I mean have the customer get the canva link and allow them to add their name or something before printing?
@sonyamantere
@sonyamantere Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is possible. So you ca either provide your customer with a) a pdf that they can download (no editing allowed) and b) a link to the template, so they can edit it as they please - these are used ie. in social media templates such as pinterest pin templates. Instead of providing the PDF file in the Etsy listing, you'd add a link to the template and instructions on how to save the file and print it out. :)

Hey i have a query i opened my etsy store few days back and my business model is POD i learnt everything ( as much as i could as a 17yr old ) but after posting few listings i realised that making designs for apparels is not something i am actually interested in i can't even create a similar design to my competitor so after posting 12 listings i decided to change my shop from POD to printable quotes and sayings because I really love philosophy and I'm even good at creating design for quotes and sayings since i had a quotes page when i was 14 so i just wondering that if i put my heart and soul into this niche creating quotes and sayings printables of different size will it work on etsy ? ( Although i have searched a lot on etsy and there are shops which are earning quite good amount through those printable quotes, saying , self care etc but it's just i want a assurance as am only 17yrs and from india so here we don't have much content creator talking about creating a e commerce shop all i have learnt is from youtube and that too from western creators. @sonyamantere
@sonyamantere Жыл бұрын
@@rigelr5345 I did try ads at some point but it was in the beginning and I quickly noticed it brought visitors without any sales - this was because my shop was not ready for the amount of visitors: think about the shops that you yourself buy from; they might have a coherent brand image, colors, fonts etc. So they are curated for the customer once they come in and then the purchase is only down to whether you have the product that they are searching or whether there's a need for the product. So try to a) create a need for a product (look for trends for example people being productive at this time or budgeting being a top priority) b) the product being what they're looking for like specific colors are trending (Etsy actually has a prediction for every year on trending colors and products, so its helpful). These will start to come naturally once you search youtube and tiktok for etsy shop owners and they'll share their experiences and you start to know what to change and what to look out for. Good luck with your shop, and keep growing ✨

Well in the video I'm explaining what I made and what I now know was affecting the sales. What are you selling in your shop and how many products do you have? There's always ways to develop and get better in creating and selling the products, but yes, it would mean we would have to maybe learn some new skills or do things in a new way. It's not the same as it used to be when there wasn't much competition; building the shop required me to really put effort in the creation of the shop for months in the beginning.

@@SHININGSTAR-iz9dj How many products do you have ? And have you looked into what are the products that are ranking / being shown in the search (and what keywords) ? This way you could have more of the right products and focus just on those. Knowing a) what type of shop you are (brand image and product research) and b) producing listings on a weekly basis to grow and attract more customers are the things I recommend every shop owner really would look into. Because your situation sounds like there might be 1) little amount of listings 2) no keywords research made - customers not finding your products 3) no clear selling images (attractive product marketing) 4) No clear brand image (customers are not sure what type of store it is and are not converting). I used ads on my second month, but if you watch the video, it didn't bring me any more sales than the first. If you have only 3-5 products in your shop and it looks like you just started it or the products are not meeting the demand.

So the process is; customer buys the product (template) -> receives a pdf with the template link -> they open it on canva and edit to their liking. And only then download their own physical files that they use in their social media.
