I've been skeptical about inflatable paddle boards. Flimsy pool toy or Out There worthy? I find out in this video!

We bought a rigid SUP 4-5 years ago and never use it. I think the portability of the inflatables is a huge benefit.

Yes, that is a big deal. If it's to hard to transport you won't use it as much. Get a ISUP ;)

Very cool! Inflatable SUPs seem terrific, just for the lighter weight itself. I don't think I'd ever own one anytime soon, but they make a lot of sense. I do like the idea of being able to keep it in a corner of your garage somewhere out of UV rays. Also great solution for someone who maybe lives in apartment.

Yes, they are very cool and make plenty of sense... I'm actually maybe liking it better than my hard Kahuna. Time will tell but I'm thinking there is a chance an inflatable may become my primary craft!

I'm on my second season with my inflatable SUP and here is some wisdom: 1. There is zero concern for loss of air pressure once inflated. I go weeks without needing to top off the pressure. (I SUP about 3-4 times per week.) 2. Just because it can deflate, doesn't mean you have to deflate it. If you can rack it, do it. Pumping it up EVERY DANG TIME gets irksome very quickly. Plus, it's better for the vinyl not to be folded/creased. And you can use your pumping energy for paddling instead! 3. Repairs are way easier than with a hard board. 4. Inflatables are not that much more inefficient than hard boards. Almost imperceptible for anyone but hardcore SUPers.

Recommendation from a certified freediver here. Don’t dive with the snorkel in you’re mouth. If you were to blackout you’re jaw will clamp around the snorkel and water will flow in. But if you don’t have a snorkel in, the water will stay out, giving you more time to be rescued.

At 02:20 you were right. There is a selector switch on the pumps. I do double stroke pump at start and finish with the single stroke selector option to get the last bit of PSI. That is the way my inflatable board is. Great vid Trip you will love inflatable sups I think. They are SO LIGHTWEIGHT.

As someone with a two-seater coupe and an obsession with not tying stuff to my roof where it and ropes can scuff my paint, inflatable anything is literally the only way I'm going to take a boat with me. I'm in the market for a SUP like that one. LOVE the $90 Amazon inflatable yak but I'd love to, you know... stand up. $600 is steep to me but it did seem very firm. I'd be interested in a long-ish term review video and / or some camping vids with this thing. Keep it up mate.

Well Eric, I'd vote for a SUP over a kayak ;) They have a less expensive one that's like 10'2" and is only $370! Check it out - amzn.to/2LEuFA5 I plan on doing a camping trip with it this weekend so we will see how it goes ;) Should be an adventure!

I think for the casual paddle boarder (like me) the only downside is getting the board inflated enough! Pump for 5 minutes, check the psi, its only at 13.... pump for 2 more minutes, its only at 14...

Not to get off subject but I had a kiddie inflatable boat , roughly enough size to hold an average weight 4 foot tall kid , that I used to tow a cooler with ice , a backpack , two fishing poles, and a 5 " cast net while wading for roughly a year . Three months during that year it hung in a tree . When I no longer couldn't go fishing for lack of transportation I got rid of that mildew sun faded inflatable boat . It was still inflatable when I got rid of that $12 inflatable boat .

This would fit the bill for me. We have a camper and a canoe, the kicker, no rack on the truck for the canoe. So this would go great in the back of the truck. When boondocking near a lake, it would be handy to carry this down to the water's edge for a little exploring. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Trip, thanks for the video. I know I asked you last fall about these and I am glad to see you followed through with a video. I was looking at ISUP to put in the camper so I that I wouldn't have to haul full size kayaks or boards along with the camper. That is just more stuff to load up when it is time to head out. Knowing a guy that uses a regular board likes these makes it a little easier to decide.

Side note about Morrison: I've been to Morrison Springs three times since they redid the boat ramp several years ago, and every time the water hasn't been much too clearer than it is shown here. I wonder if it's all the swimmers (because it's so commercialized now) and boats churning up the water too much? Two of the three times there was visible oil in the water, and I know others have also complained of it. What a terrible idea to the planners who thought adding a boat ramp next door to a fragile ecosystem spring was a good idea.
@TripSmith
@TripSmith 6 жыл бұрын
Interesting point about the boat ramp being so close.... But there weren't many boats there this day, I think I saw 2. There are quite a few swimmers though... I have been when it's been super clear so who knows?

OK ... I just got a Sea Eagle FS 126 (12 ft 6 in long) board made for fishing 500 lbs complicity. I got it pumped to 7 PSI and was very stiff. This Sea Eagle FS 126 also needs 12-15 psi. You don't want to over pump these things or they may blow up, plus threw out the day if it gets hotter then air inside gets hot and the pressure will go up. So you may want to pump it to 13 or 14 psi only depending on the time of the day and how long you'll be on the water. Anyway, I'm pumping and pumping for about 10 min it gets very stiff and there no pressure registering. So I disconnect from the board, take off the hose (pump similar to yours) and put my thumb on the hole and push down on the plunger to see if I can get the needle on the gauge to move. After a few tries I finally get the needle to move. I connect it to the boat and its now registering about 4 psi. I pump some more, another 2 -3 min or so to 7-8 psi, so I'm thinking I got a bad gauge and I don't want to over pump it. After watching you now I'm thinking there nothing wrong, but do I want to risk a $1000 investment? NO way! I think I will go get another separate $9 gauge and if nothing wrong with the gauge means more pumping. I also ordered an electric pump, I can set the psi and it shuts off when completed. All that pumping wore me out and I'm 63 years old and it looked it did you in at the end there, but being much younger you recovered much faster ...

apply liquid soap or shampoo to inner goggle lens and gently rinse out to prevent fogging (use baby shampoo if u have sensitive eyes). unfortunately u have to repeat each trip but it is easy to do...just carry a small bottle of the liquid in the bag holding your goggles. most all goggles eventually start fogging up after the factory coating wears away

It was good to meet you last weekend. I was doing a Coldwater excursion trip to a spring and you were there with your family. Too bad I don’t make it in a video haha. Next time you’re in Arkansas (if ever) you should do a float trip on the buffalo river in northeast Arkansas.

Hi, Trip 👍🏻👊🏻 I have always wondered about inflatable SUP,s if they really perform and hold air if your going to be on a long day or overnight camp adventure. I enjoyed watching your video taking a little short paddle adventure always a good time. Thanks for sharing, enjoy and have a Great Friday !!! Danny
@TripSmith
@TripSmith 6 жыл бұрын
I've wondered about them just the same Danny. After using it this past weekend for 3 days I found that it's a very realistic option for multiple reasons. It held air pretty well. The first morning waking up I checked the pressure and it lost less than 1.5 PSI so I topped it back off to 15. Then the next morning I checked it again and it hadn't lost any... still at 15 so that says a lot.

My first kayak was an intex challenger 1. It was cheap (I think $60). I do not recommend them it started losing air after a few hours of being on the water. I have considered hobie inflateables though should be much higher in quality, but also much higher in price!
@TripSmith
@TripSmith 6 жыл бұрын
Yea, for $60 I wouldn't expect a whole lot.... The hobies would be pretty fun to try!
