I have just acquired the EM1iii, my third OM! Love it and prefer it to my EM5iii as the grip is better. I’m glad the ON/Off is separate as I don’t accidentally turn it off. My EM1iii arrived with Aperture on the back wheel and exposure variations on the front. I changed mine around, as per your way, as I prefer it that way. I also have a Sony a7ii, and yes, they are similar, but at least OM lenses are much cheaper than Sony’s, one of the reasons, apart from lightness, why I now prefer OMs. Love you pics! Say Hi to Robin for me. Have a great Christmas!🇦🇺

1:50 I personally quite like the power switch on the left hand side. I'm pretty sure It's a carry over from the original Olympus film SLR designs. The EM10ii has a virtually identical on/off switch to the 1972 OM1. Actually though, your point is a good one because the Canon A1 had the power switch around the film wind on lever on the right hand side of the camera and it was a good position. I did turn off my A1 inadvertently after being in the Niagara Falls spray on my big trip abroad in 1983. I thought it was broken and it took me a while to realise that I'd turned it off. I flicked the switch on and it still worked. On came the cool digital LED display. I was super relieved. Great camera the A1.

Good to see you out shooting non touristy shots of KL. I'm interested that you took distance shots of the Street scenes, it would not have occurred to me, I guess from my earlier life there, my mind has been programmed to go near. And conditioned to crop out or leave out what locals might perceive as not pretty. Thanks for conveying the vibe.

I shoot with the same combo for a lot of my photo's, I have that field of view pre-visualized. I really appreciate the ergonomics of the E-M1 M3, it just works for me, I am sure I could use a different system, but why change if I am having fun.

7:22 I agree. I think at this level of quality of gear, it's more down to being comfortable with and liking the camera. I liked my first M4/3 camera, the EM10 Mk ii straightaway, so I used it and used it and used it. It was enjoyable to take pictures with it. I took it most places. Not everywhere as Robin does but most places!😂

Oh man, you hit the nail on the head when you mention the size isn't really a big benefit over full frame options - until you get into the longer tele focal lengths. I shot M 4/3 professionally for a couple of years before moving to full frame. The system used to be the smallest by far, and that has changed over the years. And it's not cheaper either. In Canada the OM-1 with a 25mm 1.2 is the same as a Sony A7iv with the more compact G primes. I still love my olympus cameras, but they really need to step it up in order to remain competitive in the long term. EDIT: The 17 1.8 is one of my favs. I really like the subtle character of that lens when I edit the photos.

Them bigger m43 bodies like om1 aren't smaller than most of the newer FF mirrorless ones. M43 cameras still hold it's own in terms of ibis(smaller sensor, more space for adjusting in body?) and weight/size ratio when it comes to longer focal lengths definitely.
@Centauri27

Yes, the price of Olympus/OM System gear is not cheap in Canada. I still remember the good old days, when Olympus year here were priced roughly the same as USD (absolute dollars). Then they decided to jack up all the prices by the exchange rate. Suddenly everything got 30% more expensive overnight!
@gunnarblomquist4412
@gunnarblomquist4412 Жыл бұрын
Om 1 is more expensive and heavier than Sony a7c. For my choice of lenses I dont save much weight with om system. Om ibis is better but I can live without that. Ff images looks better. The separation and noise.

Matti, did you hear me yelling from Denver, Colorado? At 10:10 into this video I said “take a photo of the blue and red water pipes”. The Oly 17mm f1.8 is a nice lens. The only thing I have found is that I get more lens flare on it. I wonder if that is due to better lens coatings on later lenses? Or it could just be me.

@davebellamy4867

@@MichaelGerrardJust you.😂 Actually, it's possible to get mega flare out of the 17mm/1.8 sometimes. I've noticed that also. Especially with a filter on. I've tried shooring with a UV filter on and then off but I can't really decide if it's the filter or the lens. Maybe both, because using a 46mm UV filter doubles the diameter of the front element so 4x the area to collect some flare perhaps.

@@mattisulanto I've got some mega flare and sunstar shots using the 17mm/1.8 while shooting in a beautiful local cemetery on a sunny day. When it happens, I try to turn it into an asset. What else can you do? ... Well maybe use a lens hood - but sometimes the sun's in the frame anyway.

I still have and use my two EM1 m3 cameras even though have the OM-1 which tends to stay connected to my 150-400mm lens. But hey I also have a Panasonic G9 which is great for street photos. You said you now have Sony?? Well there is one Sony camera and lens I would buy which covers shooting birds in flight particularly in the distance where a heavy crop is necessary. The Sony A1 and 100-400mm lens with x1.4TC. This combination not only produces superb photos but is roughly the same size and weight as my OM-1 / lens system. Also amazing for video. Have a great time over Christmas 🎄🎄

This was a good watch Matti. Might I say that the Sony 40 f2.5 is also weather sealed. Do you trust your Sony's weather sealing in the same way as Robin trusts his EM1 MK3?? I shoot the A6400 and the Sigma 30mm. I am having a look at the A7C and pair it with the 40mm f2.5. Is the weather sealing on Sony bodies trustworthy?

@@mne9476It's just a matter of personal taste I think. I like it where it is as you do perhaps for the same reason - and because it follows the old OM1/OM2 designs. Also on the smaller EM5s and EM10s the right hand panel would get very crowded with it there. I kind of don't mind where it is, as long as I don't turn it on or off by accident.
