Back in the day, I had an Olympus OM10 35mm slr. The only two lenses I had were the excellent Zuiko 50mm f1.8 that came with it, and a third party 80-200 zoom. So, most of my pictures were taken with the nifty fifty.

I think one the major key feature that I love the most in M43 systems is the incredible In body image stabilization. A cheap mirrorless full frame or an old DSLR wont probably have one, and if it does have one, especially for mirrorless, is far too expensive than M43 cameras. I believe M43 are still the best choice for street photography and casual, travel cameras because they are super small. I dont want to carry a "pro FF" camera for travel. Its ridiculous.

I use that lens a lot and love the compact nature and rendering it has. For daytime, street shooting, the f2.5 maximum aperture is wide enough. I recognise the "atmosphere" created in your shots. As I use the A7rlll, it must be a Sony thing. (or, we might both be great photographers!)

Too bad the Sony doesn't have a tilt only screen -- hate the swing-out, flippy monitors for street photography. Love my Nikon Z5. I recommend a 1/400 minimum shutter speed. You know, cats move, kids move, and even adults swing their arms. When I see a cool car driving by, I will swing the camera. My Lumix GX-9 has a minimum shutter speed setting, but sadly, my Olympus EM10 mkII and PEN PL-8 have no such ability, so I usually shoot in shutter priority with those two cameras. It is interesting that people think my little and inexpensive PL-8 Olympus is a film camera -- it does look and feel nice. Ah yes, the days when Olympus had metal cameras. Street photography might be the least expensive photography one can venture into. I am so pleased with my new Nikon Z5 + 40mm f2, and my Lumix GX-9 + 15mm Leica lens, I find not desire to switch to Fujifilm, or any other camera. This being said, the Ricoh Gr IIIx, just for size and special shooting settings, is interesting, and could be a good choice in a crop sensor, if once can no longer buy tiny MFT cameras. If I was Lumix, I would make something like the Fujifilm x100v only smaller --- MFT used to be tiny. OM systems could bring back the PEN F, and add better focusing speed and updated sensor -- all it would need. Try not to overheat in Bangkok, and have fun! - Loren

You missed out not using Nikon Cameras and their new lenses. It does say though you are a little biased with your preferences, that's fine because everyone has their own life experiences. What I look for when the so called Pro's give a review about a Camera is an "honest" one, where the have tested and used that Camera and have not been influenced by sponsers and money making schemes! All the best.

I get that there is a resurgence of older compact cameras, and I understand why. But I'm also sceptical about this so-called ccd magic. I also think the film simulation obsession is a fad that's going to be around for a while then disappear. I find a lot of the film-sim images on line that are so popular are too orange, and remind me more of the expired film look. I didn't really like the look of most color print film back when film was all we shot, and I'm still not crazy about it. But then people are paying big bucks to get blurry wedding photos, so I guess it's all a matter of taste. I do understand that there is a reaction to the overly clinical look of modern images. It reminds me of the resurgence of vinyl over digital in music recordings. Vinyl adds just the right amount of distortion (some call it warmth) to smooth out the accuracy of digital music. Also, it feels good to be different. When everybody else is shooting modern cameras and listening to streaming digital music, it's nice to go against the current. That's part of it too.

I enjoy taking around and shooting around with my LUMIX G100 because of its compactness and the better quality photos I get than my iPhone 14 Pro. My full frame cameras are a bit too cumbersome for carrying daily. I like the flexibility of switching camera systems around for what I’m in the mood for and sometimes pushes my recreational creatively.

There are a few reasons for buying newer manual lenses: No head start for fungus inside the lens, less potential for issues with oil on the aperture blades. Might have to take the one I inherited from my father apart and try to clean the oil off the aperture.

Hello, Matti. At first, I must thank you for your great videos and reviews. At second, I have one question. I have Lumix G85, American model, obviously. I live in Serbia, and I shoot in 50Hz region. In my camera, there are only 24. 30 and 60fps settings, which give me serious flickering issue under artificial light. Is there some solution for that? Can I apply Australian or Hong Kong firmware on my camera? Will I get the variety of settings of that region's camera, or will I ruin the camera? Greetings.

I'm not sure I can help you. I have the GX9 and the GX880 and both cameras have 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60fps settings. So both 60Hz and 50Hz settings. That makes me wonder why your camera would only have the settings for 60Hz. I have never had a US version of a Lumix and I don't know how they are. Have you explored every menu option? However, I'm no longer a brand ambassador and I have no inside info.

@@mattisulanto All of my other Lumix cameras (two of FZ2500, GX85) are also made for American market, and all of them have all mentioned options. Only G85 is without 25 and 50fps. I searched everywhere, and all I have found is that for PAL version, G80, there is a hack which add 30 and 60 fps to European version, but nowhere exist solution for reverse procedure, NTSC to PAL. In my opinion MFT is too expensive compared to other possibilities and shouldn't compete with fullframe or cropsensor cameras. Maybe they should focus more on what makes the MFT system stand out from the rest. Lightweight, compact ,easy to carry around and still have the quality photographers desire at a competitive pricerange. It shouldn't be too difficult if you think about what (some)compact cameras have to offer under a thousand dollars.

Thank you for the great video. Your photos always look so nice, regardless of the gear, so it is sometimes hard to tell if it is just the user or if the gear even matters. I am really impressed by how well the lens brings out the blues and greens, always a challenge. About half way through the video you were sitting by the water with the waves breaking. That exact condition as well as larger waves is what I use to judge the colors and picking out a camera and lens. Can't really explain it better than that. The rectilinear nature of the images are great. Do wish that it had an aperture ring. Anyway hope that you are doing well.
