My GCSE Results 2018! - Live Reaction ♡
Hi everyone! I hope you're all having a fab morning, afternoon or night!
For my results, I am a little disappointed just because I had set high expectations for myself and throughout exams, I definitely prioritised my mental health over my exam results at times - which I do not regret at all!! I hope this doesn’t come across in the wrong way and I am not at all saying that any of these grades are bad, I just had higher expectations in some subjects. Success is so relative so please try to not be disappointed with your results if you received them today. Everyone has off days, including me, and sometimes they just fall on days with exams! It’s ok not to get all of the top grades and that doesn’t make you any less worthy. You should be proud of yourself whatever grades you’ve received! We have all done so well to get to this point. I’m proud of you. Have an amazing day and please do not compare or leave hate on anyone’s videos. Thank you x
Next year, I will be taking Photography A-Level and an Extended Diploma In Media Production (=3 A-Levels). I have got the grades to get onto my courses and as you can tell from my results, academia is not necessarily my specialty. I much prefer creative subjects :)
ps. i realise that the maths grade (on the screen) just said 'm' lol, I'm sorry I forgot to change it before I exported the video!

Laura, please don't beat yourself up about this. I watched your GCSE vlogs and it looks like you were going through a lot when you were taking these. There is nothing you could have done and I don't think that these are a fair reflection of your ability. THEY ARE AMAZING GRADES but I know that you were expecting / hoping for higher so it's okay to be annoyed. Either way I am massively proud of you and I hope that you can be too xxx

How did u find biology paper 1 last week? I found it more tricky than I expected, aiming for a grade 8 in biology but after that exam I realistically think I'll get a 7 or 6. Anyways I have to move on and prepare to recover those marks on the second paper

It’s incredibly brave of you to post your results even if you are not 100% happy with it. It can be so difficult especially when you’ve worked so hard to do well like you did. I think this is a side of study tube that not everyone gets to see but it is so important to understand that disappointment is a natural part of life. All my love 💗💗💗

Jxxx 123 That Paper was so bullshit. The way they deliberately worded it with words not from the bloody specification! It's cyclical and disgusting. Will fail Chemistry tomorrow now too. It's even more bullshit how the Double Science paper was harder than the Triple! Sorry for my language I'm just absolutely raging.

Honestly, you did deserve a bit higher for some subjects due to your impressive, consistent dedication to academia in year 11 (from what I've seen from your channel) but your results are still incredible and me and everyone in the comment section watching this video is proud of you hehe❤❤ P.S (a 9 in English literature and Drama is insanely good congratulations!!) remember that's the top 3%!!!

Hello Laura, first of all I tell you that I love your videos, the way you record them, you really have an unparalleled talent and a way to express yourself that not everyone could have. I'm glad that in Canada students aren't tortured with a GSCE type of test that so much importance seems to be placed on. We do have standard testing in my province of Ontario but it's meant to ensure that students across the province have the same level of teaching quality and not as a final grade for the students. Grades here aren't based on standard tests it's the tests put together by the teachers. Therefore a grade of A in one school could theoretically be equivalent to a grade of B at another school. Anyways congratulations to having passed everything Laura! I hope everyone in the UK is content with their results.

glued2pc oh really? That sounds awful how do you get into universities? Do they look at your marks? Cause your marks won’t be that reliable

We do GCSE to get into college where we do A-Levels, in the old system you could take 4 A - Levels and drop one after a year which would give you 3 A-Levels and an AS Level however with the new spec you can't drop it so unless you get amazing grades at GCSE you can only take 3, the people who are able to do 4 must take them for the whole course which lasts 2 years. Your A-Level options depend on what you got at GCSE, so most colleges want a 6 at the very least maybe scrape a B in Biology GCSE to take Biology A-Level and you have to get at least a 4 in English and Maths to even get into college. You can retake your English and Maths at College however you will be placed into a functional skills group and so probably wont be able to do A-Levels you'll have to take Vocational Courses, these are Beauty, hair stuff like that rather than the traditional academic Sciences and English. Then depending on what A-Levels you take and your grades will decide what University course you do, whether its a history degree if you took history A-Level or a Psychology degree which is what I hope to do. For a psychology degree I need to have taken Psychology at A-Level which means I need 6's at least in my science GCSE's. Uni's will also want another science A-Level to go with my psychology which is why i'm taking Biology which is why I needed again 6''s in science. My third A-level is English Literature, I chose this because i do like the subject however the skills i learn in it are good for psychology such as analysis and all that which will also help me be recommended for my psychology degree.

I forgot to mention age and SATS, SATS are taken at the end of primary school at 11ish, this will determine your sets in high school and target grades, GCSE's start at year 10 but we choose them in year 9, they last two years until 16, after this is college which i've said is a two year course so we take those exams at 18 and then we also start university at 18, most university degrees are 4 years long and are optional, A-Levels are also optional however if you dont take them you must be in some other form of education such as a trade apprenticeship where you will work for maybe 3/5 days of the week and attend college classes on your trade the other 2. Usually this is construction work, plumbing or electrician or beauty such as hairdressing

Jess Pedlar honestly, seeing people’s sketchbooks doesn’t help that much. I was told I would get an 8, but my work was sent to the examiner and it was marked as a 6. It’s subjective to the examiner

Thank you! I really want to do a sketchbook tour but that won't be able to happen until next summer as the exam board took my work to use as an example to other students. Perhaps ask your teacher if they can get ahold of my work to show to you? x

Personally, I would have to disagree. Although it is subjective to the examiner, the same principles apply in terms of marking and content you need to include/ work you need to produce. I feel like it is always very helpful to see the difference between grades and therefore you can improve your own mark :)

Perksoflaur I get what you mean by seeing work can give you an idea. And that’s true to a certain degree but the amount of work you do aids massively to your grade. An examiner might see that your work is beautiful but may not give you the marks because of volume. And in any subject, especially creative ones like art, the examiner does matter. If they don’t get what your work conveys then it’s harder for them to give you the marks. And I guess that’s what happened in my situation. My examiner didn’t get what my final piece was saying, in comparison to my teacher and hod, and there wasn’t enough work despite the work that was done being of high quality (an Ofsted inspected specially mentionnéd me to my head teacher because of my art) and so therefore my grade was reduced. AND you also have to remember that a small proportion of the population actually get marked, most people’s work do not go through the hands of the examiner unless the exam board calls in their work. :)

Hey! I also more or less got the same results as you, and was really gutted as well for some reason, although I knew that I had done my best. Not meaning any shade, but watching study tubers achieve so well made me think I could do it too, which I had painfully realised that some people are just more naturally academically inclined. I completely understand the disappointment :( Hopefully this would give us the push for Year 12 and Year 13! Always here supporting you!

Laur, new fan here and I'm watching back to old videos! Don't get to upset about it , it's a huge stress going through school. I'm only in 7th grade and have 3 projects going on at once, 2 in the same subject. Coming from an old school where you rarely get projects, and when you do have a project, you are giving a large amount of time to complete them. Here, I have about 4 days to complete them. So ya, I'm pretty stressed out too! I can't imagine what you're going through! Lots of love! ❤️

I'm so proud of you, its okay to feel disappointed with some of them, it's natural, but the GCSEs aren't really significant and so theres no need to be too disappointed

Well done Laura! I understand that you may be disappointed because your grades don’t reflect your efforts but don’t let that cloud what you’ve achieved. Don’t even let it make you set lower expectations of yourself. Keep doing your best because that’s how you’ll push your limits. I believe in you!

I just watched one of your study with me’s and it’s obvious that you worked really hard and wanted to do well, and I understand how horrible it is to be disappointed with your grades, but you did so so well! Hey girl! Wanted to let you know that I get it. I worked my ASS off for my GCSE’s this year and just like you- happy with some, not so happy with others. We actually got really similar grades! At the end of the day you have finished an irrelevant chapter of your life and you’re moving on to better and brighter things. All that counts is you did your best, and you’ll do better next time in whatever you choose to take on. Best wishes x
