@@lynflom125 When you say they "recovered"...but how do you know that none of the cats experienced pain when trying to paw through the kitty litter, before & after they used it? Many cats end up going just outside of the box, bcs of that. None of them developed arthritis later, from having their entire body mechanics thrown out of whack when walking, by having their toes amputated? None of them felt phantom pain, as is common w/ amputation (even in humans)? None of them escaped outside, & were left totally defenseless, not being able to climb to safety, or defend themselves from predators? None of them ever started biting patients or visitors who got too rough with them? These are all very valid possible side effects of declawing. Imagine having the first joint of all your toes amputated; having to walk in a new way to compensate would cause foot pain, spinal pain, back pain, hip pain. And, as prey animals, cats are notoriously good at hiding pain, so if you weren't paying very close attention, you might think they're fine. Only cats that have been certified therapy animals should be allowed into such a facility. And the facility didn't "have to"; they did it for liability reasons, to cover their asses. Why not extract all the cats' teeth, while they're at it? Sorry, there is no justification for torturing them like that.

When I was a kid we had this Himalayan cat that would get the zoomies and when she started running up and down the hall we knew what would come next! She'd run up and down the hallway 3 times then head for the dining room patio door. So one of us would shout out Patio Door!!! And the closest person would run over to the door and quickly open it and she dash out on to the patio. Thank goodness she only did this when we were at home! Cats are smart you know! It was hilarious and a wonderful memory for me!

Jackson Galaxy please HELP!!!!! We have a Korat cat. She is beautiful. She adopted us 14 years ago. She has a beautiful glow all around her. Here is the problem. She is an inside outside cat. We tried keeping her inside and she is not having any of it! She will through a temper tantrum if we don’t let her outside. I’ve tried to teach her how to use the litter box and she refuses. Well, we have a huge backyard and there have been two cats coming around. They are not ours. She almost got in a scuffle with them but I heard the hissing so I ran out and I yelled I scared the other cats away. When she goes outside now she sits in the middle of our yard. Why????? Are Korats ( breed of cat the Vet said she was) very territorial??? When we use to call her by her name she would come running inside the house. She got sick with an upper respiratory. Took her to the Vet and she gave us antibiotics to give to her. I think she’s upset because we give her the antibiotics plus we give her a liquid vitamin. Well, not only that we give her a liquid laxative too. She’s older so she gets constipated. The vet said it’s normal for older cats to get constipated and she gave us a liquid laxative to give to her. I think all these things that we are giving to our cat is making her mad. I tried talking to her and telling her all these things we are giving her are good for her. I wish she would understand how much we love her.

@@77Angeleyz Have you tried giving her treats wit the medicines, or offering something nice like catnip or a favorite toy or something special that she REALLY likes at medicine time? The idea is to associate the medicine with something pleasant, and that pleasant thing only happens with medicine so it should be something that she doesn't get at any other time. It should be something that she craves. You know your cat and what she likes, so study that, and when you figure it out, that's what you would give-- and ONLY at medicine time. Lots of praise and affection at medicine time helps too. She may pout and go off in a huff... just let her, and never show frustration around her when it's medicine time. At most, just be very matter of fact, praise her, reward her, and let her get over her snit. She'll come around in her own time. I had a cat who had to take medicine for his whole life and had a painful dental condition so I know it was uncomfortable. But praise and treats went a long way, and until the VERY end, he was easy to medicate. At the end, it was just so painful for him that we just couldn't let that go on, and that was how we knew it was time to let him go and be free of the pain anymore. But he lived to be 16-- a nice long life for a cat with a dental condition and a congenital heart issue. Many cats with his heart issue alone pass away quite young, some even as kittens. He did well to make it to 16. That's a pretty NORMAL life span for any cat. We had another kitty who was perfectly healthy, even had a perfect exam and blood work a week before, pass away in her sleep at 17. So living to 16 with heart and dental issues is excellent. Our cats before them had things like cancer and Polycystic Kidney Disease, and lived to 13 and 14. Still not bad at all, considering. As for sitting in the middle of the yard, this is possibly a protective measure. She can see around her and know that some other cat (or threat) isn't hiding right nearby. It is a form of territorial behavior, yes, but it's also a way to make sure that she can see intruders coming up around her. It may be best to go out before her and look around to "evict" other cats before she goes outside, and to stay with her while she's out to be a second set of eyes that can keep her safe. Our cats also go outside, but one of us is ALWAYS out with them. This is also to keep them from jumping the fence or climbing the trees to get out of the yard, and to ward off "intruders". We have a lot of hawks around and while even a large red-tailed hawk or bald eagle isn't likely to fly away with an adult cat, ground attacks can happen, and it isn't good for the cat, obviously. So, we are out to also keep an ear and eye out for those threats as well. Cats are much safer indoors when we can't be there to supervise, but being totally indoors ALL-THE-TIME can be very boring for some cats. Others couldn't care less and have no interest in the outside world. Cats who have experienced the outdoors often want that freedom, but we know it's not very safe. So, we compromise and go outside with them. For our girls, even a 10 minute "leg stretch", a roll in the dust (also very normal cat behavior!), a nibble of some safe grass or catnip in the garden and breath of fresh air a few times a day seems to satisfy them and cuts out a lot of that howling and begging at the door, or worse-- door darting. Sounds counterintuitive, but many cats dart the door because they're curious or they want some grass or a dust bath. If we indulge that in a safe and controlled manner, it can relieve some of that frustration. And yes, as a breed, Korats can be more territorial than others. They can also be a bit bossy toward other pets in a household. This is a trait of the breed in general, but of course, individuals may be more or less so, whether it's more common in their breed or not. Cats are individuals just like people. Your cat may just be territorial by nature, and not necessarily because she is a Korat if indeed that's what she is-- without a recorded pedigree, it's impossible to know for sure! Our gray girl looks like a British Shorthair-Nebelung/Maine Coon mix, but coming from a rural shelter, we really don't know. But we don't really care, either. She's just a good, sweet cat like our little black 10 month old kitten who looks Siamese or Oriental Shorthair in her face and body but she too was a rescue, so we neither know nor care. They're just both Domestic Longhair or Medium Hair cats without those pedigrees, but they're sweet and nice no matter what.

Yes, that's what I learned from my two front declawed cats, Josephine and Tigger. They were still cats, of course, and each an amazing and wonderful personality. But they both had trouble with lacking confidence and they both had difficulties with balance. And both had problems with pain in their front paws. It's not that difficult to get scratching pads and posts and train your cats to use them. If they are young enough to be declawed they are young enough to learn about scratching posts. All it takes is repetition and patience. If you aren't patient and aren't willing to learn patience, at the very least adopt a cat who has already been declawed by some other person and give him/her as good a home as possible. Don't you be the cause of another mutilation. Please.

The way she initiates it normally is adorable. She does that kitten-like sideways arch/poof charge at me. She's nearly three, but still retains that behavior. I respond by approaching her like a predator, stalking low and slow, making grabby claw hands, whispering, "Imma get you!" She always takes off like a bullet. The best part is if I manage to catch her. I'll grab her, and she instantly flops, purring hard and showing her belly, being all cute. She gets so worked up, I often find her panting after a session.

Did you know that by law all cat owners who live in HUD supervised buildings must have their cats declawed? You can be evicted if they catch you! If you are evicted from HUD housing, you are never permitted to live in any HUD housing again. You're already poor, right? often elderly, crippled and without resources. So, what did I do with this dilemma? I went online and searched for a homeless cat who was thrown away post-declawing. The pious hateful mail I got from hundreds of jerks who were too refined to declaw a homeless cat, but perfectly capable of cuttings off his balls, was astounding. Perfectly capable of threatening the life of a poverty stricken crippled old woman as well! How civilized is that? If it were possible to ask a cat whether they'd prefer to have their claws ripped out or lose their gonads to a scalpel but get to live in a loving home home afterwards, which do you think they'd choose? Filthy starving homelessness, or sweet well fed kitty-centric home? Tell you what, YOU choose: euthanasia or lose the front claws?

I had my cat declawed 15 years ago. When that kitty passed away (Boo). I got my now kitty from a shelter. They asked me how I felt about declawing a cat. I said NO WAY I do not want this cat declawed!! They said, we just wanted to know, because this cat IS declawed (she was 4). I said well I really want her, can I not get her now? Come to find out. They just wanted me to be okay with it. She was a person's cat and they declawed her. Then they dumped her outside with no freakin claws 🤬!! I am so glad she picked me to be her new Mom!! Oh and her name is Willow. 😊

The only bummer thing about me and my cats is when the cats started to become older and they gradually calm down and they play less and less, then I become bored. I love playing with my kitties especially when they zoom everywhere even at 2.00am. I enjoyed the late night giggles. Now here I am reminiscing the good old days. Edit I've found ways that my kitties would enjoy even without all those active playing. One always enjoy grooming time and he absolutely loves the slicker brush. The other is still a junior so there's a bit of a kitten in her. My other babby though is already an adult, he's still interested in chasing toys, still a baby. My big baby

Maybe find something that your older cats enjoy playing with for longer periods of time. Find toys that interest them the most. Encourage them to play, don't give up cause their slowing down. Get them into a rhythm where when they see their favorite toy, they'll want to play.

I know my elderly cats still love cat nip. I give everyone a cardboard box and sprinkle nip into each one. It's like watching a bunch of junkies chilling out on bean bags or something. It's not as active as them chasing stuff, but I still find it gets me laughing and the cats like it too. Older cats can be really good snugglers too.

Please don't give up on your older kitties just because they have slowed down. Now they can give you much needed snuggles in your lap and they still need you. Think of a long term relationship. You shouldn't let go of someone because things have changed and they are older now. That seems heartless to me. Love your older kitty babies where they are at and they will love you back! About anxiety peeing, I have a perfect example of that: When I moved out of my parents' house for my studies our cat started to pee on the couch and my parents had to replace two expensive couch sets. It was back in 2007 and cat understanding was not as widespread as today, but I could still google this behavior as depression and luckily my parents were never angry at her but understanding and loving. (I couldn't take her with me since she has a house and garden and my apartment was 25qm 🥲) I visited more times after we figured out she was missing me. I found her abandoned and skinny as a kitten in the woods and raised her, so it must have been hard on her when I moved out. I then gradually lengthened the time I was away until she was certain I was not gone for good and would come back. But she's very perculiar in that I must FIRST give her cuddles and treats before anything else when I come home or she'd ignore me. Even today, when she's an old lady. ❤️

My old vet's philosophy was for the cat it was better to be declawed and in a (otherwise) good home rather than homeless., and that many owners are older and easily scratched. With so many needing homes I could see his point. When I went shopping for a new recliner and told the salesman I wanted a material that could stand up to scratching, he said he'd get rid of the cat. I told him furniture is furniture but cats are family.

They will wake up, we will play with them, groom thwm even though they have a short coats and of course cuddle as much as they let us. We've only got pladtic plants, never decorate the house with anything that can be dangerous to them, cat trees in our livingroom and in our catio. My little Neo will pee outside the litter box if he get very scared. In my bed and in a cat bed. I know why. He get scared when he hear very loud sounds. He was a stray cat. He has trauma from that. I love him so much I will NEVER call that naughty! I know why. "Oh no. Now you got really scared. Don't feel bad about it". And I will put on some music from "Relax my cat" and cast a bird video from KZfaq for him on TV. Never shout to your cat! Just love them! Hugs from Norway.

Looking for some tips here in case anyone sees this... I guess what I want to hear is something the lines of ”this probably happened because of the unusual circumstances” 😅 but here we go. We were cat sitting for a week, had this 7-month old female kitty in our pretty small apartment. She was used to living on the countryside, being an outdoor cat and having a house to run around in, so ofc it was a big difference. She was very playful at times, and I really saw it as chore (albeit a fun one) to play with her everyday, preferably for an hour. If she had a lot of energy, we had a intense, 20-minute or so play time and I really tried to tire her out and meet her needs. And it seemed to work well, she seemed happy. I also made sure to incorporate playtime before her dinner, and then again before we went to bed. Even though we did all this... she still managed to get the zoomies right as we were going to bed anyway, not for a super long time but still, running around with crazy in her eyes and sometimes biting/scratching our toes😂. And she woke us up several times a night, not to play but to snuggle and just meow for some attention. I guess my question is... was that normal? Cause I had the “play with your cat” mantra in my head all week cause I knew she needed that, but maybe the circumstances of her being 1) used to being outside, 2) still a kitten and 3) a lone cat mattered, cause I really tried to play and tire her out but she still had some nightly energy left 😅
@nelliemayfair

I also want to add that I didn’t really mind the zoomies and her energy per se, I thought it was cute and funny and I know it’s normal cat behaviour, but more the timing of it. Ofc she slept a lot during the day, but everytime she was awake I played with her a lot.

My cat, who was born at a shelter, lets me understand it's play time by sitting in front of her favorite toy (a simple string), she also meows persistently and takes me to the toy. She carries the string around as a prey after she catches it. We always have a play session at about 10:30 pm, and she reminds me by meowing insistently. She has the zoomies a couple of times a day. She sleeps with me and licks my face to " help" me get up in the morning. Thank you Jackson for educating people, I love your videos. Declawing is awful. I hate it. But that being said.. some landlords use it as a condition if you want a cat, since cats can be destructive (because of the scratching). Others have other reasons. I hate declawing... But I'd rather see a declawed cat in a happy home than one put down for clawing. I've known some declawed cats in my life. They weren't depressed, or unhappy, and they were well loved and taken care of by their owners... But it's still better when they have their claws. I did get on one friend's case though for declawing his cat (landlord wouldn't let him have one otherwise)...and then naming it "Slash". 😄 (I know he was named for the guitarist...but the irony was too funny.)

I have slip cover on my couch that is basically a quilt that covers every part of the couch she loves to scratch. That way when company comes my couch gets uncovered and still looks nice. When I travel I take that quilt with me that has her scent all over it and protects the bed or couch or chair where I stay out of town. I use it in the car to cover her carrier and gives her a place to cuddle in that’s comforting to her on the car ride.

At 62, I adopted my first kitten ever on Christmas Eve. Calypso is a calico/tortie. Currently 4 months old, she goes for her tail a lot. I mean she GOES for it like a mouse! I’m sure this is normal (and highly entertaining) but what I’m curious about is this. Do cats really disassociate with their own tails? It seems to taunt her and have a mind of it’s own. I realize my last comment (now deleted) suggested my kitten was stupid. Not at all! SHE is very smart. Her TAIL on the other hand, not so much…

Cats have the ability to look at anything they are playing with as a mouse/prey. Sort of like the suspended disbelief that you use when watching a horror or sci-fi movie. Most love to play at catching your finger through a hole in a box or bag, or around the edge of it. But if you show too much of the hand, it’s not fun, because it is obviously your hand and not a mouse, etc. Your cat is not stupid, just young, full of energy, and starting into her teens. She will be very energetic and playful. Be glad she works off some of that energy playing with her tail. Your playing with her would also help to lessen this behavior, because she will have something more fun to do to give her an outlet for all that spunkiness.

But for a long time she seemed to think that her reflection was her sister after her sister sadly passed away. I think she knows now, but she still occasionally paws at her "sister " in the mirror. Mine outgrew playing with her tail, too. She moved on to playing with my big boy's fluffy tail. Lol. She outgrew that, too, but still pounces on him as if they are both kittens. At 14 1/2 he fortunately takes it very well and just plays with her back. None of mine have ever become lazy. But they do eventually learn to cut back on the mischief some. Lol. Life would not be the same without them. 💖🐾💖🐾

We had carpet leftover from when it was put down. So, we stapled it to a plank and used some catnip and silvermane on it and did the old no-yes to get the good boy to stop scratching the carpet.

Hey Jackson - I’m a little late for this week and idk if you’ll ever see this comment, but you’ve seemed a bit stressed lately and I just want to send you some good vibes and tell you that you have done so much for me and my cats. I’m sure you feel like you repeat the same messages over and over, but I got my first cat in October of 2020 and my second was a feral baby that appeared in our yard in spring of 2021. I had never had cats before and learned everything I know through your channel. I know it must be so so frustrating to feel like you’re shouting into the void, but I now have the knowledge to give my kitties the best life I can! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are doing such good work.

Hello, can somebody help me with this desperate situation? It is about cats but more about people. I love Jackson galaxy videos and i have learned so much from him... so it really hurts me, when my roomates behave so badly towards their cats.... My two roomates have 14 cats in total... they "rescue" them, but how they treat them? They let them sometimes without water, i must give them it... They are not constantly at home, so the cats are alone and they are soooo sad, they sratches the door, meowing... i have to play with them - > only me is giving them some attention.... My roomates are ignoring my advices, and they shout and sometimes beat the cats for "not behaving properly" after all days alone... In one room there is 8 cats not properly introduced - they are fighting. The stress on them is huge... my cat is feeling so insecure because of the presence of 14 cats in our little flat!!!! I REALLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!! I tried talk to my roomates, but the impact on them is zero... Im soooo sorry for the cats but i have no time to take care of 14 cats + my 3 cats.... Their only concern is about a door - cats are sratching and sratching and scratching the damn door- I told them, the cats are doing this to gain some attention, but they are not listening, they are blabering something about food, but the cats are sratching ALWAYS regardles the situation - they want to be somewhere else and want attention you dumb #*@# !!! Instead of giving them some attention, play time etc. they installed the damn carpet all over the door and they also placed heavy box to block the doors (i think that is bcs of me, so i stop coming to play with them)! When i was somewhereelse for ONE NIGHT (not 5) they immideately say something insulting about me being irresponsible about my cats!! WTF Why someone is rescuing cats, when they have no time for them.... I really do not understand, why... Also they feed them the cheapest dry food, when i feeded them with my high quality cat food, my roomates were furious bcs of it... They are also saying that my cats are "addicted" to wet food (nonsense!).... Im so desperate. What to do? Find the cats home asap, but the cats are very shy, and always under the bed... i told the roomates to block the unders, but that was not taken well- I think they hate me... I tried to have some cats in my room to be more social, but again my cat did not like them at all... Im really stressing out and i am sooo angry at my roomates! Im sorry for long comment but this situation prevents me from sleeping...

I would write down all the times these cats are left alone, make sure you aren’t the one asked to take care of these cats by your roommates, take pictures and describe what your roommates do to ‘discipline’ these cats, and just keep track of everything. Once you have about a week or two weeks of evidence, and this isn’t going to sound good but it needs to be done, turn them in and have the cats go back to the shelter or a sanctuary. They may say the rescued the cats but it sounds like they were better where they were before they were ‘rescued’. The documentation is for your roommates to be blacklisted from rescuing in the future. It doesn’t sound like they’re going to change. And if they are mistreating your cat as well I’d look for a new place to live with different people if possible. How people treat their animals often shows how they would treat other people and show their true colors. By getting them blacklisted forms shelters you are helping future animals from being hurt by your roommates in their delusion of rescuing these cats.

Depending on your cat's early life, they may have learned that kibble is what food is as in what the texture, consistency and smell should be. I read up on this when I started fostering bottle babies, but got a real-life crash course when I adopted 2 of the bottle babies. I introduced them to a lot of foods, but not things like cooked chicken or beef (that didn't come from a can) and the result is that they both cannot seem to get past the texture of it--but they will eat shredded chicken or beef cat food! I feel like I failed at being a cat mom, lol. XD That being said, one of the cats has ALWAYS liked kibble. He showed interest in specifically kibble from a very young age (even before he was really capable of eating it). 90% of his food is still wet food today, but he gets a small amount of kibble at night and goes absolutely bonkers for it. It also works well as a "treat" in hide and seek games!

Jackson galaxy first off you legit saved my relationship with my cat. Ive made it my life’s goal the last free years to share the helpful info you’ve taught me to try and help others have the same positive relationship with their cats. Especially timed feeding and playing prior to meal time. The energy levels being predictable is amazing. My cats sleep at night and after breakfast and lunch because of this. You changed my life with my own cats. I wish I could do what you do. I wanna save cat lives and help people have better relationships with them!

Jackson, I have a question. How do you deal with the loss of a precious furred friend? In recent days, my mom's and sister's cat Felix had to be put down and they are mourning and it breaks my heart, that after 9 years of truelly loyal companionship, he is no more. I have a cat myself, who will turn 6 this year. And I also think ahead and can't help but think how devestated I will be, when the day for my precious mini panther arrives. I enjoy every moment, everytime we cuddle, when we go to bed, having conversations. It feels like, Felix' soul is still around in their flat. What a pressured type of feeling it is in there right now. He is missing and it is a really tough feeling. At least they both were around when he fell asleep finally. I'm upset that cats and dogs have to go earlier than us.. got any tipps on how to handle the situation?? I mean, as long as we are busy doing something, we don't think too much about it but soon as you get a moment of silence, a moment for yourself, the mind kicks in and you relive the situation and it hurts painfully

I think it's the same when you lose a human loved one. It takes time to grieve. I think the saying that "grief is love with nowhere to go" is very true. It's ok to mourn and to take time mourning. It's hard and it will come and go like waves, and it can do that for months or even years. Just gotta be patient with yourselves and each other, let time do its work. I'm sorry for the loss of your furry family member.

I've made it through the deaths of five cats. I can't say it gets easier, but at least I know what to expect and I know the healing comes eventually... if I allow myself to grieve, if I allow myself to blubber and cry and talk about my beloved lost one with people who won't turn up their noses because s/he was a cat and not a human. It's actually more painful for me to lose cats than humans. My relationships with them are so emotionally intimate. Be kind to yourself, and be kind to your family members who have lost their cat. Don't expect everything to be all better by next Tuesday, you know? It takes time.

@@lucinablue I feel you. I understand, it takes time. It's a heavy loss for everyone. Cats and dogs and other animals are so pure in my opinion, in their soul, in their heart. You give them love, you receive a lot more love. You give them a good home, love, food, shelter, playing and quality time and they have a good life. They are loyal and their companionship is amazing, let alone their sense when you don't feel well, they feel it and they know when to be around you to make you smile. That is something that cannot be bought with money. I'm having my cat here, but I'm sad about the loss of my mom's and sister's cat. I hate this type of emptiness inside the stomache. But I don't need to tell you, who have lost 5 cats overall throughout your life. I'm sorry to hear that also. I'm just not good at goodbyes. I'm terrible at this. I hate it. Everybody says, time will heal all wounds but nobody ever tells you that scars remain. It's tough. I guess, everybody has to find their own way of getting through it as there is no such thing as a universa manual on how to handle it.I hate these moments.

Sorry, this is a long one lol. One of my cats hates the litter tray . I've tried every kind of litter inc soil and sand. I tried different types of litter trays ( covered/uncovered, shapes, sizes). Ive tried different locations and have litter trays in the kitchen, living room, hallway and bathroom. The only places he'll poo and pee are by the back or front door. The others all go in the trays. I'm disabled and stay at home so im able to keep the trays clean. I've had mats down, paper down but he still refuses to go on anything apart from the floor. He's now 3 . He's always been like it. I thought maybe as he goes by the door that he would. go outside but he's always been scared of outside lol. He refuses to eat meat too. Ive had him since he was born as i also have his mum. She had a big litter so we bought formula to help feed them He wasn't the biggest or strongest so didn't get as much milk from mum as the others. That ended up saving his life as our old landlady had a habit of spraying weed killer in my garden without telling me. She knew i had cats that went in the garden. I told her not too. I didn't realize that shed done it again until the kittens started dying after the mother had been in the garden for a couple of minutes. Within hours of feeding them , they were all dead apart from the one that had had more formula. She showed signs of mild poisoning and recovered within a few hours. Luckily the vet said she was healthy Again none of the others are like this. He's literally the odd one out . I would be sooo grateful for any advice or ideas that i may have missed Edit for ignorant people.. By law , where i live, the me landlady had no right to enter the garden. It was illegal entry. Landlords/ladies cannot just dovwhat they want. You have a right to live unharrassed and unfortunately i didn't know how bad she was before i moved in. I do not live there now.

I keep the litter box in the bathroom. My cats are great with it... except one. Will not use it. Tried many different things...she will just not use it. She WILL, however, hop into the bathtub NEXT to the box and use that. Then go crazy digging at the back of the tub to try and "cover" it. 😄 At this point I'm not sure what to do and am just grateful that the tub is easy to clean up. 😄

@@vnette9777 Did you miss where she said it was her 'old landlady'. No, it wasn't right that she didn't tell her she was doing it but the woman owns the property so technically I'm guessing she can do what she wants and doesn't have to answer to anyone. Not right by any means but it is what it is. She's lucky that the woman lets her have cats as many landlords forbid pets. It's sad that those babies had to pay the price for ignorance. Those chemicals don't discriminate; they also kill butterflies, birds, and any other living creature that lands on or are around those plants.
