Just a quick overview of how I made my wet palette. This dinky little one is perfect for my needs and has served me well over the last few years.
It is far from a comprehensive guide, but hopefully it will inspire someone.

I use an altoids tin. The little paper that came with it works great. With a cotton t-shirt scrap for a Mini wet pallet for like $1.75 us

This is such a great hack! Brilliant ideas all around. I found the palette paper (Silicon covered baking paper) most surprising. Thanks!

Gonna give this a go, we’ve been using a tile but it does dry out way too quick and will end up using loads of paint. Cheers 🍻

I found a lot better insulating paper than baking paper: cellophane, it is much sturdier and smoother than baking paper, and its water permeability is a lot better.

If you use the same colors in the same spot everytime, you could probably increase the life of the towel.

Brilliant!! Thank you! I'm not sure of one thing, do you put your paints directly on the baking paper?
@RookieBrushes

No problem. Yeah, pop them straight on the paper and work them with a brush, until you are happy with the consistency.

How much water do I add? How wet is it supposed to be?? Do you add more water to it over time?
@RookieBrushes
@RookieBrushes 7 ай бұрын
You just need enough for the cloth to be wet. I tend to keep mine topped up with the squirty bottle shown in the video. Just pop the nozzle to the side of the paper and give it a quick squirt when you notice some has evaporated. As long as the water level doesn't go higher than the cloth, you are good.

Hi I am new to the hobby and have also made my own wet palette, however after leaving paints in for a day or two I notice they start to separate or something along them lines. Will just stirring them with a brush be fine ?
@RookieBrushes
@RookieBrushes 4 ай бұрын
Yeah, this will normal. Dont worry too much. You can still use the paint, but its properties will be a little different. Even if left overnight you are likely to have lost some coverage.

I picked my set up from Amazon. This is the closest I can find that is currently available: amzn.to/3Dl0xpy If you just search for Sistema Sandwich Box, I'm sure you can find one.

what would you do if mold or mildew occurred?
@RookieBrushes
@RookieBrushes 9 ай бұрын
I would wash the tub and take another cloth from the pack. I've heard of people popping a penny under the cloth to prevent mold, but I've never had an issue.

reason why I asked is because I have 2 small children and sometimes I have to leave my painting for days and days.. I was just scared I would open up a container and eventually smell or find mold. I tried looking it up but I cant seem to find any answers to this. Thank you so much for answering back promptly! I very much appreciate that!@@RookieBrushes

the thing i see with this, i can get a wet palette on amazon for USD $13. usually comes with the sponge and papers. ideally after those resources are gone you could use towels or paper towels and parchment paper. container size is not as tall so less bulk for storage, you wont need to buy anymore paper/sponge materials till they’re gone or moldy. don’t get me wrong, great idea for someone that doesn’t have an amazon prime account or a local art supply store.
