Awesome Video! I’ve always wanted to fletch my own arrows. I’ve been with Easton since the first Axis arrows way back and now have gone up to the FMJ last year and am super impressed with them. After watching this video I can see me becoming obsessed with setting them up!!!

I'm close to thinking the same thing , but it will be awhile before I need any. I think my biggest concern is that I have been just buying them for so long and they seem to fly great 11 out of 12 times lol. Previous comment for the "lol" .when I started archery hunting the nearest shop to the house was 2.5 hrs away. So I'd buy cheap arrows from garage sales . And Walmart. Dang bringing back memories out of the archive now . Dusting them off to share with the new Generations .

This is my first go with the hexx and I’m loving them. Cut at 27, 50g of brass, 6” wrap, 4 fletch pro max, and nockturnal. Best setup I’ve found so far.

if you turn the arrow wrap around the way its supposed to be you can center the vane.i run the same components and it works great

One of my goals for this year was to build my own arrows. This helped to make the process seem not quite as daunting. Since I'm going to be using an Easton insert system similar to what you're using, I'm definitely going to try using the Max Bond glue on the inserts instead of the 2 part epoxy.

I've had the same issues with Max Stealth vanes. Used Acetone to clean and everything but sometimes they would just flake off from passing through targets. I will be using the Max Pen when I do my builds for this year. I'll also be trying Flex Fletch FFP-360's.

Watching you wrap that first arrow was extremely satisfying haha. I shoot the AAE pro Max vanes and I’ve noticed they don’t adhere to bare carbon very well and don’t adhere very well with regular glue. I think I’ll try some wraps and the AAE glue like you and try my luck.

Looks like your building process is sound. Now time to up those numbers with a better build and higher point weight. I also watched your tuning video. If your arrows come bare, have you considered bare shaft tuning?
@WhitetailFit
@WhitetailFit 5 жыл бұрын
Yes! I bare shaft tune as well, I wrap enough electrical tape on the back end of the arrow to simulate the same weight as my fletch and wrap, then bare shaft tune

Quick , question. I buy my arrows at the archery shop, they usually already have the Vanes glued on . So they cut them down glue or epoxy the insert in . Well it never fails I get one out of a half or whole dozen where the insert isn't set flush with the start of the carbon. So With that said I'm loosing one arrow every time. Is there any way to get it out and reset it? I just went and got another 1/2 just last week. 1st time in a long time they were all good. I know I should probably just start doing my own but I already have so many things on my plate , that it's just not something else I want to get into. Great video by the way. & Well now you got me thinking I should be doing them myself. But I have like 8 or 9 dozen arrows laying around & shouldn't need any for years I hope. But I know any one of the Dozen I grab there is going to be one that I just will not use for the for mentioned reason. Thanks in advance for your help and reply!

Being that you shoot 80 pounds, any reason you don't shoot something like FMJ's and get a little more weight? 7.9 gpi just seems so light for such a high weight to me. Curious why you chose those! Thank you
@josephmiles431
@josephmiles431 5 жыл бұрын
In your opinion. What is the lightest weight arrow would you shoot for hunting whitetail but still get a pass thru. I'm currently shooting 303fps at 27"/70lbs with 378gr. arrows. Is this too light?
@WhitetailFit
@WhitetailFit 5 жыл бұрын
I've been shooting 400-420 gr arrows on Whitetail for about 5 years now. Anywhere from 270-300fps and I've never once NOT had a pass through. Now that being said, its alot about shot placement as well. I havent hit a ton of shoulder blades. Keep your shots where they aught to be and you'll be fine! If you're worried about contacting shoulders etc, I would suggest shooting a cut on contact broadhead, or beefing up the arrow 50 gr. Or so!
@josephmiles431
@josephmiles431 5 жыл бұрын
@@WhitetailFit thanks for the advice. Once I add lighted nocks that will put me right at 400 grains. I'll see how this works out for me and go from there. What is your preference on broadheads? Fixed or mechanical? And what fixed and mechanical broadheads do you recommend for whitetails?

Do you use the hunter vanes? If so do you use the same 4" wraps and line the vane up to the front of the wrap or the mark on the jig
@brianbell520

Thanks for the video. Just what I’ve been looking for! One question though. I’ve never attempted to build my own arrows and have never used a jig but I’d like to learn. When you put the fletchings on, how did you determine the space between each fletching? Thanks for the help!
@WhitetailFit
@WhitetailFit 5 жыл бұрын
Appreciate it!! So the fetching jig (pretty much any jig you get) will have indentations for 3 fletch 4 fletch etc. You just roll the dial on the jig until it clicks to the next position. = perfect spacing. Hope this helps!

have you ever considered increasing spine stiffness to a 280 or 300 and adding a 50-100 grain footer? I think you might be very impressed with the penetration and improved flight results of adding more tip weight. it also improves the structural integrity of the setup. I shoot a 650 grain arrow with 250 up front out of a 70 lbs bow and when I made the switch the results were stunning. it also has the added benefit of quieting the Bow down considerably.
@weswrightdds
@weswrightdds 5 жыл бұрын
Slows the arrow down a lot though
@joshvanholland296
@joshvanholland296 5 жыл бұрын
so then you have to ask the question....do you care? if the bow is quieter...there wont be any string jump. and the calculation for force is Mass X Acceleration. you can do the math for yourself but a projectile weighing 650 grains traveling at 303 FPS and a 430 grain traveling at 340. the 650 delivers Much more force I promise. were talking both shoulder blades and 2 inches into the tree behind.

Do you not worry about the spine?
@WhitetailFit
@WhitetailFit 5 жыл бұрын
You mean being too weak? I'm right about 5.25 grains per pound with this setup, cutting them this short helps stiffen that spine up as well. I know the brass will make it a bit weaker but I think I'm in a good wheel house. I have never had issues with flight, bare shaft tuning or paper tuning. So I've been pretty happy with the setup in a whole! 👍👍👍
@timberg7377
@timberg7377 5 жыл бұрын
@@WhitetailFit what I mean is, I always rotate my shaft to be the same, meaning the index fletch would line up on the high spine of the shaft.. I know this is old school but, I've found for long range shooting it really tightens the groups. I haven't been in the game for awhile and maybe the tolerances in the spine from shaft are much more matched now.
@WhitetailFit
