These videos show how much it comes down to the talent of the person shooting, not the gun or the ammo or the camo. The fancy guns are like the fancy golf clubs, You can spend as much as you want but it won't help you hit the target or get the ball in the hole!! I knew a guy who was a really good shot, all his mates were always asking him to 'sight their gun in for them' 😆

Good one, Stu. I try and balance between not enough (too simple) and over the top (tacti-wanker). I do pick what fits and suits me, making sure I get value for money. I swap between centrefires Lee enfield #4 with a #5 barrel, Addeley Precision mount and Bushy 3 - 9X mildot, or a kitted out Remington 7615 with the bells and whistles and a Halo sight on QDs. The shotgun is a Boito Miura with 19" barrels (chose it for the ejectors and single trigger.) They go on the front of the quad (a new Yamaha 350 Grizzly) and I'm working on the rest of my kit as i write. With 90 acres to practice on, I'm having fun fine tuning the package, ready for when the coronahoax is over and the borders re-open. Might see you out there one day. ;-)

@@RickNethery I remember when I first saw a stainless steel Ruger rifle. It was the then fairly new Mk2 that I at the time hadn’t looked over. I was shocked that it looked as shiny as Excalibur! It was coupled with the “boat paddle” stock that I thought was terrible looking! I now know that the stock is very popular in Alaska, so I guess it is durable, but I thought the mirror finish would frighten off any thing worth hunting. Later, when they introduced the Hawkeye All Weather, I really liked the looks. The finish was matte and I really wanted one. They were high everywhere I looked so I tried to be tight until I scraped up the scratch and finally ordered one in 308. Man, I just couldn’t get it to group and finally sent it down the road. The funny thing was, before I got the 308 scoped, I ran into a good deal on a new one in 223 as well. After my bad experience with the first, I got cold feet about the 223 and was afraid I would have a second nearly new rifle I would have to sell used, I sold it to a friend and had to learn second hand what a tack driver it turned out to be! 😂

What gear do you recommend, for example, clothing, optics, rifle accessories & hunting boots? (Not Chinese manufactured)
@HuntingwithStu
@HuntingwithStu 3 жыл бұрын
There is so many companies out there to chose from mate. You could probs google non chinese made hunting gear. However, I like Vortex scopes, Swazi clothing for cold climates and often a good light weight fishing shirt makes for a good warm climate top. I use Olight Australia torches and Ruike knives. I just recently received accessories from Stason Smith who do slings, ammo belts etc made in Russia. Top quality stuff.

“All the gear no idea” and “buy once cry once” all good advice Stu. I started out recently with a 3.7kg Lithgow .223 and finding it too heavy to lug round and hold up for a while. Accurate as hell though. Any suggestions? Cheers

Another vote here for the Tikka. Their bolt feels like it wants to slide back and forth on its own, and usually very accurate. One can always find a lemon in any brand, but the Tikka is a good bet!

Croc sling is a work of art, I wonder if there's a market for those.. - "TOP DEFINITION buy once cry once Term to describe the purchasing of an expensive item, of excellent quality. Implies that the owner will, initially, have reservations or guilt for buying such an expensive item; however, the owner soon realizes they will only have to purchase the item once. Owing to its craftsmanship and durability, the item will have a long lifespan. Bob: "Dude, this iPhone case cost me $200! It's made from Italian leather and handcrafted in Eastern Europe, though..." Frank: "Ouch... Buy once cry once, amiright? by Robert McCall November 10, 2015 "

@@HuntingwithStu I don't know much about crocodile leather but you can purchase alligator skin leather from a number of retailers and craftsmen in the U.S.A. The American Alligator was nearly hunted to extinction until heavy restrictions were imposed during the 1950-60's and their numbers have rebounded incredibly. Many of the products made from their skin is now from farm raised gators but hunting is legal again in many states and we have no shortage of high quality rifle slings made from their hide.
