That's because we have the "roster". Literally any new gun is "off-roster" and comes with a hefty price, because the only people who can purchase them new are active law enforcement. The only way they get to the used market is it they are sold on the private market.

This guy went about this all wrong. He should have shown her the $59,999 Gatling gun at Rural King and then explained that at 800 rounds per minute will cost another $1,200 a minute to fire it..... Then, told her her would settle for a $5,000 gun.

I agree, he didn’t negotiate in a rational way! Even if she quickly agreed for him to take on the absurd gun, he could have win even more by admitting, “thinking about it, that super gun is absurd, I’ll get this much more sane one instead!” That way he would have 2 ways to win. If they feel a need to be in agreement on large purchases, he’s still got a way to lose.

"He's sort of new to it all." Yeah, a lot of people who find a new hobby are like that. Guns, golf, cars, gadgetry it doesn't matter. They get interested, and once they make a new social circle around it, they have to have what their friends have and start spending like a house on fire. They accumulate tons of gear and then somewhere around 6 months to 3 years the high wears off, they go find something else and you can find their old hobby gear on FB or Craigslist at a steep discount. Rinse and repeat...and repeat. They're compulsive consumerists, and thats a big reason why 70% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. Stop feeding your dopamine folks.

The Santa Stork is also delivering a Ruger 8348 for my oldest. 2021: The Stork is bringing me a Desert Eagle .44Mag and a .243 or 7.62x39 rifle. We have six months of expenses saved. Other than $2,700 in student loan debt and a mortgage, we just save our money until we can have enough to invest into the house and rebuild again. The wife just returned to work after two years and now I can put more money into my gun fund. Also 2021: All the first time gun buyers that want to sell them..... :)

Raf Matt back in 1986 registration of new machine guns was eliminated, so there are only so many pre-1986 transferable machines in this country. There is way more people that want machine guns then people that have machine guns, and every year as some are destroyed, lost, or become damaged to the point that they are on usable, there are less of them, and there will never be any more added. The price continues to go up from already insane to astronomical. You can buy a nice A.R. 15 for $1000. To get a transferable full auto example you are going to pay over $30,000, and it’s not because the gun is inherently really any different. It just has a serial number that was registered as a machine gun that existed before 1986. The only difference in mechanical terms is a couple of other stamped sheet-metal trigger parts In the receiver. If you are interested in doing more research, you can look into the national firearms act, the 1986 Hughes amendment, and how the laws and markets work on transferable machine guns, as opposed to dealer sample, post 1986 Machine guns

@UCPO0DrwVAlQeOWywkyMjUcw No it doesn't. That's a common myth. There's no license or granting government permission to enter your home. You would purchase it from a 'Class 3' dealer and fill out a short application, send it to the ATF along with a $200 bribe (tax) and because of their backlog you'll get your tax stamp back in 6-10 months and you can take your item home. Coming from 1st hand experience.

What I've learned from a lifetime of purchases like this, is that when you 1st get the item you are ecstatic and then within a few months or years it just ends up sitting on a shelf collecting dust. If guns are his hobby and what he lives for, it's probably okay. If it's not that, he will end up looking at that gun a decade from now and wondering what the heck was he thinking.

Me and my wife have a system worked out. It might sound silly to some. But it works for us. With our end of the year bonuses and savings. We each get 4,000. We spend it on whatever we want with no questions asked. She normally goes on a major shopping spree with her friends including spas, etc. I normally make a couple of hunting trips a year to get trophy bucks. I one year put an insane sound system in my truck and got mud tires and a winch. It's a way to reward ourselves with 0 worry or guilt.

There are times when we give each other the gift of not having to give that amount to the other person, but as a rule it has been great!

He is a newbie wanting to compensate for his lack of skill and knowledge by owning an expensive gun. The answer you’re looking for is no. Not today, he can buy it later when he knows more about it. Look, earning $140K as a couple in California is NOT a lot of money. That’s kinda like $70K in Indiana. Prudent people don’t buy a $5K gun with that income.
